  1. RIP...Thoughts and Prayers to the Deane Family from all of the members of "The Hall". Arrangement Info should be available shortly...I will post as soon as I get to work. Actually, thanks to my favorite Chief...see page 2 of this forum for the Information!
  2. Whitney Young is definitely a project but never fell under the MHA. Is a privately owned venture. Yonkers has many MHA locations...Housing Police (YPD 500-512 cars) cover Schlobaum Gardens (Schroeder St)<501>, Mulford Gardens aka Emmet Burke Gardens<503>, Cottage Pl Gardens (bet N Broadway/Warburton...just North of Ashburton)<504>, and Calgano Housing (55 & 80 School St, 14 Brook St.)<502> The rest are covered by the generic sector car. Others include the Walsh Rd senior housing facility, Flynn Manor, and many more locations not deemed as dangerous locations I would guess. Just some FYI...MFY
  3. The other problem with VOIP is that I having an OV account can go to my mother's house in North Carolina, log in to the internet and place calls therefrom and my home number will show up on your caller ID! Now just think, lazy old me forgets to log out the connection and something happens, we call 911...and guess who picks up the phone??? PEEKSKILL POLICE cause they are my 911 PSAP...of course I would notice pretty quick cause I pay attention and am trained how to handle calls of this nature...and I think most of my family would also pick up on it cause I have trained them! But Joe Schmo (no offense to him) won't know...they will most likely be in some type of compensation of panic mode...and if the dispatcher does not verify the location, Buchanan PD, Cortlandt VAC, and CRP will show up to my house and have no answer...at which point it may be too late! All dispatchers should repeat the house address and make sure the caller repeats it once again so there is no discrepancy. And don't think it has not happenned...google it and you will be able to shepardize some legal cases in which it has occurred. As well it has happen to me...short example...female calls 911 hysterical...my 3 year old is missing...I say did he go out the front door onto Fairview st or was he in the yard? She says Fairview St???? We moved 2 years ago. Well where do you live...still in Yonkers? No Greenwich, Connecticut! Oh Shi! All ended well, I grabbed the hotline and aired to Greenwich...they in turn advised they had a 3 yo boy in the station and were looking for his mother. Always be on your toes...use your resources and train everyone according to advancing technologies...Don't get left behind or worse yet SUED!
  4. I could use a side job....know a few other guys that would be interested in helping get the program up and running as well as looking for a place to finish out their careers. Would be good for a lot of people, workers and patients. There won't be a shortage of qualified, experienced, bilingual emts and medics signing on if it went county job way like it should have 2 years ago. Especially one of my good friends from Lake Carmel...just what he is looking for (RU911???)
  5. Once again are you reading the posts??? The test is exactly the same...it is written in ENGLISH ENGLISH ENGLISH they are just looking for someone that is able to comprehend and speak spanish the test is not written in Spanish! Now if you want to jump ahead for jobs...since you are probly still in high school take Spanish now and in College take it every year and learn it well...then when you take a civil service test you will be better off. You do not have to be Hispanic, you can be any race and just be able to speak the language well enough to help people.
  6. I don't think so! Once again....well better off, you and I take the test, I just happen to speak spanish so I pay an extra $xx and sign up for the test twice, once on list number xxx-x and again on xxx-y. I take one multiple choice civil service exam...you take the same exact exam. After we are scored, we both get a 96 and we are listed based on filing date...so say you file feb 1 and I was lazy and file feb 15...list comes out and you are #1 and I am #2. However, on the Spanish list I am #1 cause you don't speak spanish and I do, and I was clever enough to sign up for both exams. Now we go and take our physical agility exams and we both pass. So we qualify for the next open position. A position opens up 6-8 months later, the dept decides they need to hire someone who speaks spanish to assist with community service in that aspect and to teach fire prevention to residents who are learning english but would better understand in spanish for right now. Instead of filling the position off the regular list they change the position through addendum of charter (or something) and make it a spanish speaking firefighter position. I am then sent to a county office to take a proficiency exam. I have to prove I can write, speak, and comprehend spanish well enough to assist those who speak it as their primary language. There are currently three levels of proficiency and some jobs require you to be very proficient or fluent, and some that are not so important allow you to be able to just get by. I go in to the proficiency exam and pass on Level "B" (level "A" is fluent)... this is the cut off for police officer and 911 dispatcher that I have seen so far. I am then canvassed for the position...and fortunately for me I am 1 of 3 however only 2 of us took the test so I am hired. Sorry but I am actually more qualified than you are for the current open position, and because of this they intend to pay me a little bit more because they need this service and feel it is important. Once again...we scored the same...we both passed the agility...but I got the job because I was what they needed at the time...You don't get automatic points...it is a separate list...however...some places may hire me over you anyways...cause I speak spanish...even though they did not advertise this...they can pick 1 of 3 for each open position...
  7. You are WRONG...you take the same damn test...you just sign up for 2 separate lists and then when they are hiring you take a proficiency exam!!!!! You have to prove you can speak spanish as well as english! just like when you take a 911 dispatcher exam...you have to take a typing proficiency!!!! if you can't type you assed out...same thing here....however you would still be eligible on the regular list...It sometimes gives an advantage to a person more qualified than you that can speak 2 languages...still has to pass the psych, physical portion and go through the academy...but when they go on jobs and have to find out if anyone is in the house they are able to to do so where someone who doesn't speak Spanish would not be able to! Get it yet?
  8. No one ever said Spanish has to be your primary language...a lot of people speak both and some people took the time to learn the second language as a part of their education and take pride in stuff like that. In most countries you are raised and taught at the very least 2 languages if not more! There is at least one police officer I work with that can speak 7 languages...he grew up overseas...and I have never had trouble understanding his english...There are people that only speak english that to this day I can't understand a word out of their mouth!
  9. Listen, they give exams for Spanish speaking Police Officer, and Dispatcher in most places. They also have a number of bilingual positions in the county and yonkers city offices. I highly doubt that they are giving this exam in Spanish. I would think that if you are able to speak Spanish, you just pay extra to be placed on 2 lists when you take the exam (like I usually do). Then you have the oppurtunity to be hired off of one or the other. And, in some places you are paid a stipend or raised a grade to offer these services to the public. As well, I believe it is important to offer services to all of those whom live here. I am not in agreement with allowing all of the illegal immigrants to remain here and not pay taxes but they are here and we should do our best to meet the needs of the community. Not all are here illegally, some people are elderly and moved here but never learned the language. We all say...if you live her you should learn it, but people come here for oppurtunity and we were born here and just take what we have for advantage. This department is doing the right thing...adapt, overcome, accomplish!!! More localities should follow this leadership and do what they say they are here to do! Serve there Community!!!!
  10. Pretty cool setup...click on Westchester news and then choose Yonkers in the local section...lots of stories and on the right hand side is another link that downloads the Yonkers Baseball Stadium and Downtown Waterfront BID project phases and you can get an overview of what is going to happen. Looks impressive! As well a story in Yonkers that is developing is the future project of the old Power Generating Station located at the foot of Glenwood Ave!!!! Another future improving move by the City of Hills...where no street goes in a straight line!
  11. In case you missed it....TIME TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Story: Man arrested after high speed chase, spinout on Cross County By WILL DAVID THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: April 9, 2007) MOUNT VERNON - A man was taken into custody by the Yonkers police this afternoon after a high speed chase ended in a spinout just off the Cross County Parkway. Police captured the man, who jumped out of the car and attempted to run away. Details of the arrest were not immediately available, but this is what Mount Vernon police Chief Joseph Pizzuti said is known: Yonkers police attempted to stop a car in Yonkers near the Mount Vernon border, and the driver sped off east onto the Cross County Parkway at 12:02 p.m. Yonkers police and Westchester County police chased the man, who exited the parkway at Exit 8 into Mount Vernon and spun out in the car. The man jumped out and ran but was captured on the 300 block of Claremont Avenue by Yonkers police. No one was injured during the chase or the accident, Pizzuti said. The car is registered to a Mount Vernon resident, police said. Police were expected to give more details later.
  14. I vaguely remember this happenning at CMT/Hudson Valley Amb....just before I jumped into an escape boat and began at Empress EMS. Interesting...wonder who this just might be!
  15. Now the best way to do it....ah...pm me...don't want to give away my methods.
  16. huh?????????? stopping for the view jet?
  17. Can also place a big net under the bridge 5-10 feet below...that would slow them up a bit.
  18. That van was still around 3 years ago...actually came out on a fire and a vehicle accident with extrication...never knew what it was for though.
  19. WRONG! Has nothing to do with Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). Vonage does have an information relay to 911 it is just not as advanced as regular phone and Optimum Voice (or other major cable provider). You have to enter all your own info into your 911 center and that relays to the 911 dispatchers. The only difference is proper spelling and where 911 tells who's district it is, it says verify. ie: ESN=000 VOIP versus proper ESN=63x INP Verify PD Yonkers PD Verify FD Yonkers FD Verify AMB Yonkers AMB That is the most ridiculous thing in the world. If you were smart you would make it town legislation and a rule for the police to have to put through all requests for fire/ems to the proper dispatchers. Dialing a 7 digit number just to get straight to fire control is not the answer. That gives fire control no more information, especially if the caller has their number blocked and no reverse 911 can be pulled. 911 is there for a reason...EMERGENCIES!!!!! Sometimes people don't have time to speak, but if they call 911 and yell fire...someone will know about it immediately! Once again...please research before posting. Yes 911 does not work with cell phones as 911 does with landline phones. However, technology including tower based triangulation and GPS services allow the 911 call center to come close to locating the person. This again is better than calling the 7 digit number cause most cell phones come up without a name. Cell 911 agencies are able to access that info via passed legislation in which the cell company providing service is able to within minutes process a request for more info...such as where you live. So if you got disconnected on cell 911 someone might still be trying to locate you...if you get cut off on a regular line...most likely we don't even have your number! True, but most places have it set up that if you do dial 911 it goes to the corporate operator and they are able to assist you! How many people know the direct number to the police and fire for where they work????? Come on...most people don't even know the non emergency number to their home town services off the top of their head!!!! I can understand having the local number on things like chris192 said but much smaller and misdirected from 911! However, on private services, ie Empress it is okay to have your general number because your vehicle is an advertisement. I do believe Empress should have Emergency dial 911 Yonkers-Mt Vernon-Pelham somewhere in plain sight...since that is what they do there.
  20. Follow the link for video...story below: Mo Vaughn, the ex Red Sox, ex Mets baseball player and his company have purchased the Whitney Young Housing Complex located at 354 and 358 Nepperhan Ave. A premise that has been plagued with problems as long as I have know it. Sure other Yonkers workers can attest. Recently the gas station located on the corner of Nepperhan and Ashburton, in front of the buildings was purchased by members of "Da Lox" or "D-Block" a rap group made up of 3 Yonkers natives (Sheik, JadaKiss, and some other dude). Sheik grew up here and hangs out in the parking lot across the street when he is not confined by the state! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Taken from News12 website! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ex-Met tries to score win for less fortunate in Yonkers PLAY THE VIDEO Play the video (04/05/07) YONKERS - He hit a lot of home runs for the New York Mets and now a former baseball star is trying to score a victory for those less fortunate in Yonkers. Former Mets slugger Mo Vaughn, along with an investment group, is buying the Whitney Young Manor apartments on Nepperhan Avenue for $17 million. Vaughn says $9 million worth of improvements will be made on the buildings that will include renovated lobbies and new elevators. The apartment complex includes 195 units. The investment group promises the tenants will not be displaced during the renovations. http://news12.com/WC/topstories/article?id=192196 He is going to help????? the less fortunate...sounds like he got a good price and will make some dough???? Place definitely needs new elevators though!!!! Ever respond there beware of AIR MAIL!!!!!!!!!! Maybe he can bar all the windows and keep people of the damn roof!
  21. This is the story! Children who said mom forced them to panhandle removed from home By WILL DAVID THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: April 6, 2007) YONKERS - Child Protective Services has taken four of five children away from an unemployed 37-year-old Yonkers woman who, police said, had turned some of them into panhandlers for her. Antoinette Jones' four youngest children were removed after Yonkers City Court Judge Charles Wood issued a temporary order of protection barring her from any contact with them. The children were staying with a friend of Jones' on Cliff Street after Wood made his ruling Tuesday. On Wednesday, Yonkers police and CPS workers went to the Cliff Street house about 6:30 p.m. and removed her four youngest children, police said. Jones was not at her friend's house at the time. The four children are two girls, ages 5 and 17, and two boys, 7 and 11 years old. Jones' 18-year-old daughter was not covered under the order. Susan Tolchin, chief adviser to County Executive Andrew Spano, said she could not comment on the whereabouts of the children or any involvement by CPS. In similar cases, Tolchin said, CPS typically looks for the best household to take custody of the children while making sure that the parent has no contact. Yonkers police arrested Jones Monday night, suspecting that she was using her children to panhandle at supermarkets. Their suspicions were further raised when her 11-year-old boy went missing at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The boy's 18-year-old sister told police that her mother made them walk several miles from their 16 Orchard Place home to Pathmark at 1757 Central Park Ave. to beg customers exiting and entering the supermarket. After they arrived at Pathmark, the older girl went to the restroom and her brother was gone when she came out, she told police. The teen also told officers that she and her siblings were frequently forced by their mother to walk to supermarkets to panhandle, where they earned about $30 to $40 nightly. The 11-year-old was later found. Jones is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. She pleaded not guilty and was released without bail. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This job was ridiculous. Tied up YPD units for hours searching for a child whose mother sent him to panhandle. When we spoke to the family they were so helpful...hahaha... Evidently they allow this to happen routinely and he just walks off cause he is a wanderer! Hopefully she never sees the children again. Kudos to the person who decided to charge her in the matter!!!!!!! More of this should happen around the country...It is not fair to the rest of us that have children and are responsible. If you need a license to drive, maybe it is time to licensure pregnancy! Now not only did our tax dollars and time go to finding her child...now we will pay for him to be housed and cared for as well as the siblings and for her to be locked up! Once again...this statement is in my opinion!
  22. I was speaking with my Lt. this afternoon and he told me this happen like a month ago and was reported by the Journal News...I guess NEWS12 is a little behind...see if I read the Journal News I would have known about it earlier!
  23. YONKERS... St. Joes, St. John's, and Lawrence Hospital (Bronxville) Trauma: Jacobi Medical Center + or - 10 minutes depending on who is driving. Westchester Medical Center, same There was always an unwritten rule...anything NB on a highway might as well go north, SB might as well go south...south of the Cross County goes to Jacobi and north of goes to the Med Ctr...like I said unwritten...some persons felt comfy with one or the other and that was their choice. As for in the "City" handling...closest facility or patient request...but one hospital still doesn't understand that!!!!!! Oh yeah, special needs: Dentistry or Re-attachment: Montefiore Medical Center... 5-10 minutes depending on traffic and if your chauffer knows the shortcuts!
  24. favorite in college was freeze water on a cookie sheet and then slide it under the door...nice wet mess for the unsuspecting roomer..........
