  1. Like I said in other threads, I think it is very cool...just I am not good at stuff like that. I can paint existing models to look like common place items but, I cannot ever make anything out of nothing! I was trying to make a city scene of the South Bronx from the 60's, but that got nowhere...while trying to make buildings I got so frustrated and just gave up...Have the train set I was going to use as an el and all still in the box...even bought model mack fire trucks trying to match what was used back then...As for Stepjam...he seems to be a master with his hands! Wish I was 1/100th as good as him! So I think kitbashing is taking kits (ready to build models, diecast toys, plastic toys) and bashing them together and adding creative hand built materials to form what appears to be an exact replica of an existing product. JMO though...
  2. Here is that shot...Also taken at 300mm with lens hood, UV Haze filter...
  3. Another Point in this argument is being mulled over in another thread. 911 can't help choking victim! So as to say...if the supervisor spoke spanish and the caller needed help in spanish and he refused to help isn't that the same thing????? Services need to be available whether in language or in assistance training! Everytime one of us figures out a newer safer way to help others it should be shown to everyone, patient care or firefighting or law enforcement is no secret! The more you know the more you can help!!!!!!!! Open your minds and accept what has happenned here in America, it is too late to stop it, now we must adapt as emergency services workers and overcome all of the challenges that we may face as the times change! And as ALS said earlier, there are not many native americans on this website, so our heirs most likely spoke another language and we just lost it through laziness!!!! Part of my family decent is from Italy, another from Denmark, and some were from Gibraltar Spain...So, I learned Spanish, took a little Italian, and forget about Danish...that is all German to me!
  4. That is cool! Now you don't have to remember that other number for Stop Dig...I'd post it but I don't remember it! Just hope they have a fail safe measure in place for mis directed fingers that want 911. Sometimes it happens that people want 411 when they dialed 911 for information (freudian slip?)...but this could get a little tricky.
  5. I am confused...isn't a FASTeam working once they get there? Isn't that their job? They are assigned a specific task and that is to be ready to rescue members of service and they have ways they plan on each scene. They are at work once they are dispatched, working to prevent the LODD of a fire fighter! They are not there to fight the fire or open up the roof, or provide rehab...they are there to save you a$$!!!!! Call in additional companies for fire fighting and let FAST stay alert and ready, don't replace them when they have already come up with a plan and are ready to act if necessary. Just my opinion but come on that is why they were dispatched!
  6. I second 585's *** motion! Like to hear management's side of the story.
  7. See incident alert and incident workshop threads on New Rochelle Riot Easter Sunday @ New Roc City. We in turn are speaking about the Westchester County Police Mutual Aid plan which is broken down into zones and the response codes are color coded with depts pre-arranged manpower response.
  8. How about all 911 professionals be trained. The training is easy to use and saves lives! It is used so much more in Europe especially in the UK and they love it too. Most CAD systems are integrated so that you don't have to work off the cards anymore and all of the questions/answers are documented in the case like should be. Not only EMD but why not EFD and EPD. A solution to the problem of inconsistency from calltaker to calltaker. And instructions for everyday people that are simple to follow. This is just another portion of the controversial fire topic started in firefighting...no progression. Unfortunately some places hire dispatchers and train them once in the beginning of their careers and then never ever offer any advanced training or times are changing training and dispatchers go 30's years based on what they learned when they started. Another issue for another thread most likely... IMO this guy should be fired! I disagreed with the CT dispatchers being fired for the inappropriate commentary, but this is much different (worse), and it most likely cost some poor woman her life! Not cool!!!!!!!
  9. Excellent Question...I was working on YPD 2 and had the hotline but I don't remember if it was a red alert or a yellow alert (?) and for just that zone (?)
  10. If you look in the Squad category of the County Apparatus list you will see Squad 1 is assigned to Yonkers FD. The Rescue company, used to be called Squad 1 in Yonkers...check out history pages at http://www.yfd.org/ Not 100% sure but this may be the reason it is designated as Rescue 1 now. Sure Chief Fitz or Batt2 can explain more. Although click on this link for the original formation of Yonkers Rescue 1: http://www.yfd.org/history4.htm Due to a fiscal crisis, on January 1, 1976, Engine Co. 1, Rescue Co. 1 and Truck Co. 11 were removed from service On March 10, 1978, the apparatus numbering was changed "to conform with the numbering system of the County". In order to eliminate confusion during mutual aid, all apparatus in Westchester County were given different numbers. Yonkers' Engines received numbers in the 300's and its truck companies (now called ladders) received numbers in the 70's. Old Designation New Designation Engine Co. 2 Engine Co. 302 Engine Co. 3 Engine Co. 303 Engine Co. 4 Engine Co. 304 Engine Co. 6 Engine Co. 306 Engine Co. 7 Engine Co. 307 Engine Co. 8 Engine Co. 308 Engine Co. 9 Engine Co. 309 Engine Co. 10 Engine Co. 310 Engine Co. 11 Engine Co. 311 Engine Co. 12 Engine Co. 312 Engine Co. 13 Engine Co. 313 Engine Co. 14 Engine Co. 314 Truck Co. 14 Ladder Co. 70 Truck Co. 1 Ladder Co. 71 Truck Co. 9 Ladder Co. 72 Truck Co. 13 Ladder Co. 73 Truck Co. 4 Ladder Co. 74 Truck Co. 12 Ladder Co. 75 On June 18,1992, a Hazardous Materials unit designated as Squad 1 is commissioned. This unit will be staffed 24/7 by an officer and one firefighter. The unit will also be used as a rescue company assisting ladder companies at all working fires. During 1993 all members assigned to the unit received extra training and were certified by New York State to the Hazardous Materials Specialist level. Support companies were designated to assist the Squad when more than two persons were needed to handle the incident As we entered the new millennium, Squad 1with its two man crew was decommissioned and to replace it, on March 6, 2000, Rescue Company # 1 was commissioned with a four man crew. The City of Yonkers once again had a Heavy-Rescue Company almost 70 years to the day from the commissioning of the original rescue. All of the previous info taken from the yfd.org history pages.
  11. Nice! As well I think that is a great idea on how to get sterile burn sheets.
  12. k, but I am at work now...have to upload at home.
  13. Can anyone advise on what County Units responded and what other local jurisdictions did respond to Playland, just to clarify. My understanding was that there were more than 4 people upset that day when either there were no more buses or they did not make it to the bus stop in time. Either way I do believe mutual aid was called. As well, it was not just the usual mutual aid granted to the County on a routine basis like on traffic stops where another jurisdiction just backs them up. And, as I said before that this was prior to the color coded, zoned mutual aid plan.
  14. The raw image came out great...my brother in law works for MNRR and just became a foreman and he has a train themed room in his house. So I have been getting some shots for him. As for ALS, no I yelled at you first then went and took the picture. Shot it from the top of the new playground thing at the park while my daughter was running around like a nut! Kind of a cool spot...gotta see McGurty's house shots...gonna bring one up to him.
  15. What are there Unit #'s?
  16. And thanks to FAC911... When you arrive at an edp call and they are no longer there, 10-8, 14 banana split!
  17. I did some research on this when I was at Empress and then I got a new career before I ever tried to bring it in. This stuff is cool, is quick, easy, and does the job! A lot of the training EMT's and Medics receive were designed on the battle front and just modified. This is one that should be considered, especially for jobs were bleeding control is an immediate factor as to life and death. So sorry for the ED's out there (my wife is an ER NURSE) but it is too bad if the field personnel have an awesome tool and they don't like it! It is what is best for the patient not what is best for the rest!!!
  18. Well, I would love to share but I don't get the magazine! Anybody know where I can pick one up yet?
  19. In the foreground is the Hudson Line train tracks. In the background is Home Mason Supply Co. Overhead is the Central Ave overpass of State Route 9 (aka Albany Post Rd) Picture lost some of it's consistency when shrunk to meet standards of this site...will try to correct compression later and post it again.
  20. Yeah true...I posted a link in sites worth visiting for the lohud.com site. In the Yonkers local section they have the dwbid plans for all three phases outlined. Including BVA and Hawthorne Ave's being re developed along the rr tracks and another area of interest is what appears to be another future commuter hub known as Ludlow which encompasses the Ludlow stop on the Hudson Line trains. The general vicinity is run down apartments but is generally not as bad as the section just east of Riverdale Ave. I think it is great they are trying to expand in the immediate area of rail stations to reduce the amount of gas guzzling autos being used on a daily basis. I am sure the MTA loves it too... I will be trying to also get some shots from the Yonkers platform this week of the 3rd building in the Van Der Donck St development which is just north of the City Pier. This premise is being built upon the grounds of the old Metro North parking lot west of the Train Station that used to house their PD units and such. Another project (non housing) is the apartment building that is nearing completion on Riverdale Ave...vic of 217...not sure of the # just yet...but I have it written down somewhere. Lots of work going on!
  21. The playland situation may have been prior to "red alert"...I believe that the mutual aid system was updated in the past 2-3 years to have color coded alerts within zones. Before that it was more like; can you help us? I know that Yonkers falls under zone "b"...however everytime they transmit drill alerts and such I have to go find the book cause it ain't used all that often. Also fittingly is that Yonkers is zone "b", yeah zone "14b"! Which is one of our ten codes for all those that know it...get it!
  22. Other than subscribing, is there a place to buy this magazine on the newstand? I have never seen it...but would be interested in this month's edition just to keep around.
  23. Playland Riot, 4 years ago I believe. It was JULY 4th and they ran out of buses and crowd got out of control. The next year the County Police were more than prepared in the event of a repeat.
