  1. Call her a cab and put it on your tab...your rich ain't ya?
  2. Just got off the phone with the Mayor... He says, about responding to calls, the ride on lawn mowers aka tractors will be equipped with emergency lights. 2 firefighters will be assigned to this portion. The officer and the chauffeur will operate the weed whackers and move the apparatus to a location close to their working area. If a job comes in they will all respond in parade like fashion. Apparatus, mower "A", and mower "B". A DPW/Parks worker will also be assigned to the crew in will operate a third mower, untitled. He will remain in the assigned work area and complete as much as possible until the rest of the crew returns. As well each apparatus is being equipped with a trailer hitch and small trailer to carry the equipment to and from the station house for work periods. An open letter to the public was put out stating use caution when seeing responding fire apparatus because they are travelling in "threes". A large red vehicle with proper warning lights and siren and two small vehicles with limited lights and an air horn. Enjoy!
  3. St John's is getting a non emergency cath lab in Yonkers...is still in the works though...and as for riding on an ambulance with aspirin which is so potentially harmful that the state feels they have to limit units as to who can ride with it in their possession is so ridiculous! It is not a controlled substance...if you aren't trained on how to give it (haha) then don't touch it (haha). Enjoy!
  4. what a wise guy!

  11. Forget defensive driving (optional should be manadatory to begin with) Forget the 5 hour course and Forget learning with parents that already have these tendencies All Driving students should have to go through an EVOC type course. This teaches you to be more aware of your surroundings and such. Call it HTDYC or How to Drive Your Car! Even if someone does it once they will learn a lot! Oh yeah, and to all of our LE guys...don't feel guilty for providing someone with a driver review...Yes, it is paperwork, but we all thank you for trying to get some of the ones who really can't drive off of the road! Keep up the good work! Stay Alert, Stay Aware, Stay ALIVE!
  12. I've been holding out for some time...but since we are talking about 911 centers and moving...the dispatchers of the Yonkers 911 PD/FD Comms are moving soon. Somewhere with windows...YEA!!!!! Can't say where but it looks a lot better than our 2nd floor office in the Cacace center where the only windows we have now separate the "pods"...Sorry to hear they couldn't hook y'all up with a new space...I will be thinking of you while I am enjoying the fresh air!
  13. who won best of the non winners? Just seems like a whole lot of awards!
  14. I read this a couple times before I decided on my exact thoughts. The author is correct and accurate. A number of fire services would have been reduced over the past few years if their numbers were not raised by responding as first responders on EMS jobs. However, to a good many this is a chore and not a service. I am sick and tired of persons who are trained to manage a patient calling for an ETA on the ambulance cause they don't want to wait...why else would there be a first responder system other than to get aid to victims sooner rather than later. The fire service in general has to recognize the importance of the EMS portion of the Emergency Service System and embrace it. It is scary when you break down numbers and see what is really going on. If they were to add ambulances then there would be no need for the first responder system...ambulances would just be there waiting, sort of like fire units do now... JMO

  17. I have to say, you may be right on with that!
  18. I know that sealed bid is the key...but how many times do you hear...oh we're getting a so and so and it has not even been set out to bid yet. I know this is the same with ambulances...Oh, we are getting a PL Custom so we are just going to go through the motions and have everyone visit us! Understandably there has to be specifications but they have to be flexible...unless it makes it unsafe or inoperable!
  19. Next time we get a worker over on Warburton or BVA I'm gonna reccommend this!

  23. They are on the EMS frequency and are assigned perminent EMS posts and respond to jobs just like FDNY units do, they are just owned and operated by the hospitals. IE: 27A is an OLM*EMS unit and covers a section of the North Bronx.
