  1. I think it is just that "time". EMS is becoming more recognizable as time goes on...Volunteer Ambulance Corps were the wave of the past...now everyone wants to be EMS cause it sounds cool...JMO...but as one agency goes...others tend to follow suit. Empress used to be Ambulance Service...but now all of the rigs are labeled empressems...so is their website. Peekskill is still PCVAC as far as I know and when the new logo was developed (+- 10 yrs ago) EMS was added to it. Hence the patch reading Peekskill EMS and then the ambulances followed as they were purchased. The old patch was oval and the new is the shield design. As I was saying, in my opinion it is a trend...just "new" and "fresh"
  2. Yeah "311" right! I want to know what happens if Amicone loses the election...who gets to answer the 311 calls? Me?
  3. Should just line up and let the crowd walk by...ya'll could just march in place...a reverse parade...LOL...just kidding...we will probably be there with a camera or 3... Fireworks are SUNDAY right? Very important...cause we have to set up chairs on our patio in Buchanan so we don't have to fight the "crowd" down there...Pretty good view last year over the trees and all!
  4. Update: Current Status-- Still in Ways and Means since 6/20...I think they broke right cause that is why Spitzer/Bruno are disputing...guess we will have to wait for the fall session.
  5. Really?????????? That is ridiculous, unless they planning on building an arch to get you to your car when it rains. My wife takes the train 2-3 days a week and sometimes that place is under water! They were down there trimming those skeleton like trees the other day though...and blowing the chips all over cars cause they did not have a hood on the truck receiving the debris from the chipper. Chips were flying all over the place...but they will charge more to "PARK"...Nice! Soon enough I will be a 3 day a week commuter...if not 2 days...that is if I can work something out with someone at work to reduce my days in schedule...The train is great cause you can just relax and not worry about the other drivers getting in your way!
  6. I don't believe that you would lose the engine by putting gasoline into a diesel...I had this happen one time...an ambulance broke down, tow operator thought it was out of fuel and put gas in it! I got blamed...long story! It ruined the fuel filter when the "collision" occurred between the two fuel sources, they gelled up or something...system was cleaned out and truck ran again on the same engine. I am not a mechanic but know that diesel nozzle's won't fit in a car's gas tank however gas nozzle's do fit in a diesel filler...As for someone not paying attention to the tank they are filling at a commercial establishment......sounds like someone may never ever have to pay for gas again!
  7. Does NY have anything in any of the law sections consisting of misuse of 911...I know about OGA and false emergencies, but what about the everyday idiot that calls 911 for everything which is basically just MISUSE...I have never seen anything like this but it would be great for those few (ha!) times that someone truly misuses 911 just to annoy dispatchers!
  8. Being a person on the "receiving end" of calling in traffic stops, I am more than happy to be kept busy no matter what time of day! I believe that anytime an officer leaves his auto for anything he should call in the location...especially flag downs and traffic stops. I feel better having an idea where my boys are rather than hearing a call for assistance go out and being speechless!!!! Unfortunately there are a number on my job that still feel invincible and I really hope it doesn't turn out bad ever! There are persons that I work with that get annoyed at radio traffic...my theory is that they should go find another job forthwith!!!!!!!! Dispatchers are your lifeline (civilian or p.o.) use them...they are getting paid either way...but let them have a chance to save your arse! If something does go down, your location can be relayed to additional cars IMMEDIATELY...the plate you ran can be rebroadcast with vehicle description to units responding in...all of this may not only save your life, but resolve the situation much more quickly than waiting til you are found and it is too late! Especially on the parkways and in locations where backup may not be 30 seconds away... Also, quick rant, contrary to popular belief---you probably don't have to say, "Foot Pursuit" cause it ain't really hard to tell that someone is running while talking on the radio...there is a thing called huffing and puffing that makes it quite obvious! Please "SHOUT", since you are gonna anyways, your LOCATION, once again, LOCATION! Cause then everyone will be able to find you in a timely fashion and help you out! If you followed my first rule, you got out of the car to investigate a person or situation and you advised your dispatcher, then foot pursuit will be okay, cause we already know where you are...in this case words better spent would be a quick description....sex/race/shirt color/direction of travel!~ MFY...foot pursuit magnate!
  9. I have to agree with 1 eye here...It is really funny how every deputy chief has a red light in their personal cars...after 50 years you have 50 or so deputies and the active chiefs...that is a lot of red lights! As well, each fire dept has "3" chief vehicles in Westchester (well at least 3) but how many EMS agencies have the same for their officers???? They do how many more calls each year in each district? Maybe EMS needs to have a "3" chiefs vehicles...or 3 emergency response units and the members get to use them so that they are officially on call and have to answer the jobs that come in...this would be more beneficial to certain volunteers that can't hang out at the VAC all day cause they have personal business to attend to but they could drop what they are doing and get to the job cause they are on call!!!!!!!!! EMS more call volume, less resources! And personal vehicles should have a placard or some type of marking making it obvious to the public that they are okay to use the lights and sirens!
  10. Of course this is not the first time this has occurred...remember the vollie in Rockland Cnty that stopped the off duty trooper...Just wonder what kind of badge this guy had...It is too easy for someone to buy red lights and siren and install it themselves...usually on the level installers won't do it without permission...but it is really simple to DIY...There should be paperwork required for purchase of the lights and siren!
  11. And the closest facility is not Hudson Valley Hospital when the crash occurs in Queens...and traveling lights and sirens is ridiculous also! especially that far!!!
  12. Yeah, I don't know snakes too well so be it a bite I would probly go to WMC or to Jacobi if at all possible...knew about the look-alike snakes (copperhead/milk snake) but when I looked at the picture I couldn't remember which one it was...so there is no chance that I would take a chance by guessing...sorry but you are going for the ride! On a side note...we got a snake bite call here in Yonkers tonight in the 1st pct...child bit by snake in hand...or not! It was a fake snake...yes, a toy...and they called 911 and we sent PD/EMS! Great! You really can't make it up!
  13. All a joke set up by Google but pretty cool: Google Lunar Site Job Openings!
  14. From the Journal News Website LoHud.com Yonkers' 311 hotline won't be answered for another year By LEN MANIACE THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: July 5, 2007) YONKERS - City officials acknowledged this week that residents probably won't be able to call Yonkers' proposed 311 information hotline for at least another year. Plans to implement the 311 system, which had been slated for September of last year and then this past March, have been put on hold, said David Simpson, spokesman for Mayor Phil Amicone. Though the introduction was initially delayed by the City Council's refusal to fund the system in 2006, the latest delay results from the city's plan to reorganize its communications operations, Simpson said. The city plans to move police and fire dispatchers, an existing city help line and an emergency response center at a new facility to be located at the i.park on the Hudson complex. There the city hopes to gain experience using the 311 software on its existing help line, 377-HELP. "The plan is to get the operations center fully functioning, go back to the City Council, show them how we were able to implement the new technology, and then request the money," Simpson said. Approximately $570,000 would be needed to hire a staff of 18 part-time workers to operate the system around the clock, Simpson said. When announcing plans for 311 in his 2006 State of the City address, Amicone said the service would cost only an additional $100,000 in operating costs by shifting existing positions into the program. The City Council eliminated those positions, however, to save money and then voted not to hire the part-time employees, citing the need to curtail tax increases and the existence of the city's 377-HELP line. Yonkers is paying $526,300 to Maryland-based Langan Technologies for the 311 software and a five-year maintenance agreement that begins February 2008, according to Linda Infante, director of management information systems for the city. The 311 system is intended to provide residents with an easy to remember phone number for information, complaints and requests for city services that would operate around the clock. City officials hoped to operate the system on a reduced level with staff from the existing help line, Simpson said. City Councilman Liam McLaughlin said this week that he believed Amicone was attempting to implement the 311 system despite the City Council's refusal to fund it. An opponent of Amicone, McLaughlin questioned whether the mayor intended to shift money in the newly adopted budget to hire the employees needed to make 311 operational. "The mayor hides money all over the place. My guess is he will pull it out from somewhere," said McLaughlin, adding that the mayor had failed to update the City Council on the 311 system. Simpson denied that money for the 311 system was hidden in the budget and said that McLaughlin could contact the mayor's office to learn about the status of the plan. The 311 system, which is used in New York City and some other large U.S. cities, would improve city services by improving problem tracking, said John Fleming, executive assistant to the mayor. It should also reduce the number of non-emergency calls to the Police Department's 911 line, improving that service, he said.

  16. I think you missed the boat here! $25 fine compared to a $3000 fine is quite a difference even in Canadian Currency I would think...NY does charge surcharges, but they are not nearly the same when speaking about speeding summonses!
  17. This is one of my favorite television shows! It is great to see how they follow up leads and hit dead ends...just think almost the entire first 48 these guys are working...maybe go home for a few for a shower and some food but that is it...any off time could compromise the investigations and it could end up going really cold! Very well put together too...keeps you watching for the full 60 minutes! 1 of my favorite episodes is from Miami, they are going to check out a suspect and come upon a man with a gun on an expressway! He is a C.O. going nuts and wanting to kill his estranged wife and got into a car accident. They disarm him, turn him over to patrol and miss their suspect for the time being! Great show! KUDOS to the producers! Wish they could come here to Yonkers and follow our DD...especially S/693 Det. Sipowitz (LOL)...he would be a great character!
  18. Nice photo...is he grabbing her breast? He has that suspicious smile and she has that omg smile and the caption should read...Seth! That is my boob! You better not post that on EMTBravo!
  19. OMG...what an idea...why not just get him the James Bond 007 jet pack from "Thunderball"...the Navy probably has a surplus of those lying around! I'd like to know what his plan is if the balloon has trouble and the trooper drops in front of the speeding traffic and gets run over(?)
  20. First due should give a preliminary upon arrival (size up) no matter what type of call other than basic first responder on EMS jobs cause those have to be evaluated a bit more...That unit should be able to decide pretty quickly what resources are required at the scene and 10-8 those who are not! There is definitely no need for "2" heavy rescue co's at the scene of a motorcycle accident! Even with pin, 1 should be more than enough...LOL Correction, 1 extrication company, cause ladder co's and engine co's in some areas can do extrication.
  21. I have seen the troopers sit in Nyack just off the west bank of the bridge and nail people after they cross...there is a ton of room to do that there but not so much on the east bank cause the tolls slow everyone down. Next the need to make EZPass lanes that you can continue at 50 mph through...Maybe not though cause how many idiots try to cross over everyday cause they ain't paying attention! Will that work I don't know. As for speeding on the bridge, more patrols using slick tops or plain unmarked cars would improve enforcement...Everyone sees the tway cars and slow down...got to be sneaky!
  22. Maybe not in the right spot but what about points for signing on and using the site period? Like for each day someone logs in and checks it out, they get 1 point, but can only get 1 per day not just keep logging in and out and if they read an important section they could get a 1/2 point for at least participating by seeing what others have to say...some people learn but don't post just cause they liked what they read or just want to read...This is gonna cost me points ain't it?
  23. This was in the weird but true section of the NYPost Today! That is great drinking and driving to go pick up her slut sister! Talk about amazing...could you imagine these cops faces...ah duh!
  24. Congratulations...enjoy the moment! Oh, and now go off and multiply (?)...lol
