  1. 2 separate lists...2 separate jobs with similar job duties, but males search males and females search females...just like when they make a dispatcher list in Yonkers, there is a regular list and a separate one for those who can speak Spanish. Although, in this case you don't make more money by being one or the other...where as if you speak Spanish and are hired to fill one of the positions there is a pay grade increase. In a detention facility it is important to have enough members working of different sexes so that there is no "mixing"...if you catch my drift.
  2. There are two ways to look at everything. Half full and half empty. Yes, breaking down the numbers does say something, but looking at 1 death in 7 years is another. That shows that they have not had an incident in which more than 1 firefighter perished at a time. That says something, no? A point was just constructed based on the fact that in the US we have had a number of incidents in which more than 1 person has died there at. That is not a good thing, the reason you go in with a buddy is "safety". I know a good many firefighters, and I would be saddened if anyone of them died and it could have been prevented. It is not fair to the families of these that perish that we continue to take risks that go far beyond that of fighting a fire, such as driving wrecklessly, sending men into unsafe conditions prior to a really in depth size up, and so on. One of the things I saw with the Deustche Bank incident last week was that they did not send in a 3 man scout team to establish whether or not it would be safe to send in more men. Unfortunately technology is not that good and while you may issue a mayday, that doesn't mean anyone knows where it is that you have positioned yourself. Even if 1 person knows where you went, they may miss your transmission cause they are doing other things, and then you can become a "hero". Remember this, you may never know that you are a "hero", cause most people become heroes secondary to dying.
  3. Sounds like there still are 2, HR35 and HR127. Maybe they re-designated the numbers or something.
  4. I don't think they should have a problem...you sometimes get hungry and bugs are free food. LOL!
  5. How did the training go? And what did you guys train on in particular? Heard the announcement on 46.26 and then got a call from an off duty on the TZB inquiring as to what was going on in the Hudson...lol. He's a great guy, so I won't say bad things about the nosiness!
  6. I don't think so...thinking back, there has not been many calls over the past 6-7 years that this would have helped deal with. Yesterday's job is just one of those fluke things...and sometimes when it is your time, it is your time. I see the point of a countywide or semi-regionalwide vehicle, but then response times come into play and ego's ya know! LA has some big freeways and some nasty spills occur with tractor trailers and such...we have I87 and maybe one tt accident a year as far as I can tell.
  7. He was and still is Nuckin' Futs!!!!!!!! We were discussing our favorite EDP's...such as Judith formerly of Pine St, Mrs. Rabinowitz, Mr. Davies (is he a member of this site?-I told him to join...oooops), and the many others that fill our life with entertainment...it is sad when you say you miss talking to them after they pass away or get put in a long term center! But we all do, they break up the routine.
  8. City Of Yonkers, Police and Fire Dispatcher #78, EMS call transferrer. Click on Oswegowind and you can put a face to my handle...uh, that don't sound right! I am the one on the left...lol
  9. Sounds like the doctor is a (not allowed to use the expletive here-insert your own)! I don't know where your part time j.o.b. is, but we used to have a problem with an Ob/Gyn in the City of Yonkers. St. John's to be particular...never wanted to hear our story, wanted us gone! Until, we had a pregnant female that OD'd on a hallucinogen that was fighting with the EMS crew. They called for backup and we ended up "securing" this female for transport, at the hospital we moved point by point (extremity by extremity) to the OB bed and tied her down properly...a kicker! The doc got pissed so everyone else left the room (EMS) and I proceeded to cut off the restraints with my shears while running out the door. All you heard was the doc yelling for "HELP!", we came back in and re-restrained her...never had a prob since! Unfortunately this is not an optimal way to teach a lesson or humble someone...Good Luck...some Doc's just can't see us on a professional level...we are their bastard step child too.!!!! P.S. being pregnant doesn't mean they can't walk to the bus! I love how all of sudden someone can't walk, but they have done fine for the other 8.99 months!!
  10. A: Oh, there is two of you too... Q: What is the weather like today in Siberia?

  13. Then he doesn't have to stick his head out the window to get a better breeze!
  14. Yes you can...and I have seen it on the Saw Mill from time to time...as well as the nut from Yks! Nothing in VTL...
  15. That's a good question. There is actually nothing that says a car (or truck) has to have doors. This was discussed at work when someone brought up a regular edp. Apparently he used to drive around Yonkers in a car without doors! So legally...there is nothing wrong with it...just hope you don't get struck on that side!
  16. A: YES!!!!! Q: Is there a light at the end of this tunnell????? Scary...here in Yonkers, as a joke they ordered blue rubber bracelets (IE Livestrong-but blue) embossed with the letters, W.W.M.F.Y.D. or what would mason from yonkers do...hahahaha! Anyone wanting a wrist band, just let me know...I think it is great!
  17. I agree with chris192...sometimes we have to be treated harshly to understand the truth. Enough sugar coating things! I think that the recent incidents, namely Baltimore and the Deutsche Bank, prove that things can't be taken lightly. I commend those who are taking action in these situations and hope that more people step up for safety. It is time for change...and as our current motto here is, CHANGE STARTS HERE! Read this article, take a deep breath, and don't react but absorb the message! Brotherhood is even better, when all brothers are alive to enjoy it!
  18. Wishing you a Happy um 53rd! From YFD's Dispatchers!!!!
  19. CKroll, EMTBravo's retained Psychologist...LOL Great post!
  20. Just checked the Duct tape website...they have a "uses" list...this one has been added... Taken from DuctOntheJob.com
  21. Yeah, this is a blow out of proportion non story...BTW I don't even know where in the world this freakin' place is and who cares. I mean if it happened in Yonkers that may be one thing, but are the State Police inadequate for the coverage of a small municipality? I can't even begin to imagine how many jobs this little place does per year.
  22. You must have missed the etc...I know that gang problems exist all over...I see them everyday when I go through the Buchanan Circle...LMAO
  23. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it! If a private company can do EMS and make a profit, then it is the politicians faults for not coming up with a muni system that pays for itself! I doubt that any private outfit actually turns a profit in its EMS portion...EMS separated from the other entities or jobs!

  25. Non-profit agency does not mean that someone (CEO) may be making a ton...You should research npa's and see what you may learn. I believe the CEO of the Amer. Red Cross makes a few million a year...but the organization itself doesn't show a profit margin cause it is written off and the extras are passed along to a few (lucky people) of the "employees". As well, you are blinded by the fact that they should have a reasonable cost for high quality, but in the private sector (NPA's included) most of the time they are just filling a spot in the bus!
