Taken from News 12 Site, unfortunately! Just want to congragulate Scarsdale PD on this good police work. Charging 7 persons with the burglary! Especially since only 3 entered the household themselves. They say it wasn't gang related but there were members of a gang involved...maybe I am missing something. Even if it weren't a gang thang, wouldn't it still be gang related because gang members were involved? Otherwise an excellent job...and good PR!

I think they mean in her group! She's probably better for the job than me...I am so out of shape...unless round is in. Good for her!!!!

Someone once told me: "If you have a dream of a tatoo on your body, that is the one to go with...deep down inside, that is what you really want!" I haven't had the dream yet, so I am still a tatoo virgin. I would have to go with my personal triad though if I did it: NY Yankees symbol, Duke U. Bball logo, and my mega millions winning numbers....when that happens!

Well, EMS is in charge, once the person becomes a "patient". And that is the way it is supposed to be. All too many times I remember police officers simply telling me how to do my job. And as Scooby (Kittel-spelling?) once put it to a YPD Detective, "I don't remember ever telling you how to arrest someone". In NYC the NYPD usually listens too EMS and tries to help if they are asked by the EMS crew (note-usually). I recall stories from OLM'ers about the difference in respect EMS was given by the police in NYC and those in Yonkers (just as an example). Although some EMT's may need direction now and again, suggestions are different than orders! Sometimes it is all in the way of how you speak to someone. If the EMS in this particular case thought that the police were over-stepping their bounds than it should have been documented, and addressed internally through a department liason. I still don't think that EMS needs to be called to every taser job, but that the police can transport a tased subject to the hospital in a police car. I also don't feel that EMS BLS crews should sit there and wait for ALS to show up to decide a course of action. If BLS gets there and there is no need for ALS, they should be put back in service. To me, the PD policy of a medic seeing the patient, sounds as though they don't trust all EMS providers who receive the same basic training. If they want the "victim" to be seen by a medic, than transport him to the precinct/jail and have the medic meet the unit there...no emergency! Don't dispatch the EMS as a job...just have the medic come over and give some advice. If something goes wrong on scene than call in the calvary. Otherwise take the mope by radio car to the hospital to get the barbs removed if you can't do it yourself. But I think if you are trained to "taze" then you should also be trained to remove the barbs...remember, they can always seek medical attention later for the "lacerations" caused by the barbs!

Yankees play in Kansas City tonight!: Coming off a decent homestand, the Yanks head back to the road, again. First stop, Kansas City, KS and the Royals, victims of A-Rod's 499 and 500th homeruns. Alex, coming off a 2 home run performance on Wednesday, both in the 7th inning, says he is ready to continue the push and put the heat on Boston and reminded us that this isn't 2006! His numbers are great to say the least and should leave K.C. with at least 50 homers for the year. Wednesday also yielded an outstanding look into the Yankees pitching future, once again. Phil Hughes got back on track with 6 strong innings giving up 2 runs, his best start in 3 tries. He turned it over to the unhittable, Joba Chamberlain, who didn't strike out anyone for the first time in any of his appearances, but retired the M's 1-2-3. The eighth belonged to another rookie, Edwar Ramirez, whose nasty change-up coupled with a 90+ fastball is fooling seasoned hitters everywhere. Edwar has proven he belongs since his one bad outing that Torre has taken responsibility for. The youngsters in the pen, coupled with Mo and Luis Vizcaino have really shored up the weakest part of the Yankee boat. No more guessing with Dr. Proctor (LA Dodgers-Betemit trade), but when will they get rid of Farnsworth (fastest pitcher to choke-96+mph fastball), it is time for him to go, he is not dependable and has no confidence in his arm...he would be great for the Orioles, if they want to give us Bedard...LOL. Back to the task at hand, tonight the Yankees send Ian Kennedy back to the mound, Kennedy surpassed all expectations last week and if he actually brings his stuff tonight, this may be something to watch! Also, Joba can pitch again tonight, and if he does it may be a 2 inning spot, as long as the Yanks don't carry a 30 minute inning in between again. Joba has already toasted the Royals once, and if he gets in against this free-swinging club tonight, we are in for a show...my guess is 5 of 6 outs on strikes...fastball, slider, "blow you away" fastball, and if needed, "you couldn't hit this with a tennis racket" slider!!! Stay tuned. MFY is a beat reporter for EMTb Sports with aspirations of one day kicking John Sterling and that bimbo out of the Yankees radio booth and giving up Police dispatching to announce (and stalk-according to Chris192) the Yankees!

Actually, I think at least one of them does. Every Monday and Thursday I see him doing swan dives through the trash! BFD1054, you know who you are! As for this incident, it is sad, can happen anywhere, and will continue to happen everywhere which is even sadder.

Oh yeah, bout that Motorcycle...when the officer (my brother in-law) pushed it, I thought Pville getting a bike was nonsense. And I still do! And I believe that merging departments is a must in this county, time for reform. In Greenburgh, there are how many police departments? Let me see; Ardsley, Hastings, Dobbs, Town, Irvington, Elmsford? Am I missing any? Now, do they really need it...is crime so rampant in any of these jurisdictions that they need their own department? I mean come on...how bout two stations, 1 department. Town of Greenburgh Police-Headquarters, TOG PD-Rivertowns Substation. I would still like to see the County absorb some of the small departments, similar to Cortlandt, with 1 less mistake. Coverage! Although, lately I have noticed an increase in Trooper patrols around the neighborhood, but still only see 27C on occasion. I can't recall, but I believe the Town of Cortlandt PD only worked 8am-midnight, so that is why the County contract stipulates the same, but if I remember correctly, they ran 2 cars a shift, so the mistake is that the Town won't pay for appropriate coverage. Cortlandt needs at least 2 county cars to supplement the troopers and stop those idiots from making the left into Wendy's!!!! (personal rant).

Good thing the past president retired...cause he was getting a dead line when he called his job! Too bad I didn't get to provide it before he left! BTW, why is it the "Vulcan" Society? And is that not a derogatory term?

That is one of the coolest tools I have seen in a long time. YPD Marine 2???? Right... Good for the NYPD staying on top of the counter-terrorism world. Do other major ports have similar vehicles? Newark, Wilmington NC, LA??????????????????????????????????

We get calls like this all the time...never thought the handler would be the one to do it! That is just horrible. Technically, he killed a police officer in the line of duty!

I think one of the main differences between drinking at parades and going to a call audit at a bar is, the EMS personnel are not in uniform, don't drive apparatus to the call audit, nor do the majority of one organization attend, leaving either the district uncovered or intoxicated. No offense but this is not a public show! A parade is. No one is driving home the ambulance and may have been drinking. Sorry, but two different worlds! If this were EMS drinking after a parade, in uniform with a bus, then I am against it. But dinner and a couple of drinks while discussing good and bad things in EMS is not the same.
-
Rob, I hope you don't think this is a bad idea. Everyone who attends these should be responsible adults and not drive drunk! But, they are a great way to learn in a loose, casual environment. Always a great time and people come from everywhere to attend! May be the only way for Sheri to get some continuing education...LOL!!!!

I think that this whole taser job is getting so much press here and in the local media because it is the first time that I have heard of someone being tased in Westchester. Maybe I am wrong, but they do not report everytime a perp get sprayed with pepper spray, nor do they get taken to the hospital on the regular as a result of such, at least not immediately. The taser is considered "less than lethal" just as the OC Spray is, just the taser has the barbs instead of a liquid spray. The barbs sometimes don't even pierce the skin, depending on clothing, and it will still work effectively. Officers that are assigned tasers, should be trained as EMT's as well or at least have first aid training and know how to remove a barb. As well, the local EMS jurisdiction should know what they may encounter in their area and have special training to be ready for such events. This is not an ALS call in any way!! The paramedic really shouldn't even be dispatched unless their is a better reason, like trouble breathing as a result. When a perp gets sprayed, after they begin to comply, you can give them one of those wet dressings that relieve the pain of said...Same idea here! As for penetrating injuries...this should not be considered in that evolution. If you came upon a drug overdose and the "victim" had a needle sticking in their arm (penetrating) would you remove it or would you leave it there as a danger to you? I would pull it out and put it in a sharps container, you don't want no heroin OD waking up and using it as a weapon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Barbs go into the first layer of skin and should be easy to get out...similar to a fish hook.

Going to a semi-Countywide system makes sense. Having a central dispatch. Leave the larger department such as New Ro, White Plains, Yonkers, maybe Port Chester, but have 911 and dispatch in 1 central location. Merge the rest into Precincts. Greenburgh can be a precinct with a sub-station in Dobbs where officers fall out of. Assign sectors, some of which will include highway sections to further the coverage. Then out of County HQ have the highway patrol, traffic unit, all specialized units fall out, including a task force which is just extra cars on the street that respond to bigger jobs automatically as back up units (regions of sectors). This would make it easier to assess resources, communicate between area during pursuits and other events, and would improve officer safety. This would not include any removal of current services, just instead of working for ie "Buchanan" you would fall out of the Peekskill PCT and cover that sector and coverage would be 24/7. For Greenburgh this is a great step in the right direction. Reduces taxpayer overhead. The admin positions are usually overpaid for the workload and are political in nature. Policing and politics should be separated! No one's job should be hung over their head cause they write a friend of the mayor's! The Troopers do this on a statewide level and do a great job of it! Why can't we do it on a much smaller level? EGO's and Politics!

In response to baba....'s post: Actually, I beg to differ. Providing a safe haven is a part of the service, if it was unsafe then they should have helped them get to safety especially when it comes to people from out of town. Saying that they will probly get mugged isn't helping. I work in a police dispatch center, we call for cabs all the time, and probly 2-3 times a week our officers transport stranded motorists! And pay shouldn't have anything to do with this.

If aviation is working, then they are working...flying over the County on routine patrol, doing their inspections, and providing an eye in the sky to local police everywhere. They are particularly useful in Yonkers especially during foot pursuits and reported suspicious activity being able to get there quickly and put a light on the situation, literally! Aviation has long been neglected in this area, used for major jobs only. Now they are here to help on a regular basis and if not assigned can be recalled pretty quickly if needed. Especially in Yonkers, with the number of buildings around the southwest end where a majority of the crime occurs, they are able to clear roof tops, check alleyways, and provide definite back up to officers involved in police operations. They do monitor all local pd's, fd's and are always ready to assist, no matter the need. Unfortunately there are too many nosy people out there though and when we do use them, everyone calls 911 cause the chopper is flying low over their house! People suck...what can I tell ya. Chris192 can get into the specific equipment that the bird is "armed" with. I haven't heard the lojack thing as of yet.

I heard that news 12 wouldn't give an unedited version of the amateur video to the police dept prior to asking Commissioner Hartnett to comment on the event. They will still only allow the YPD to see the edited version and are keeping proper justice from being done. News 12 once again is stepping over the line and taking sides so they can have a "BIG" story and get people to watch. Be fair...show the whole tape cause then you will see real brutality! Him and his wife not complying and telling the cops they were worthless. BTW this all started when the perp's dog pooped on a city sidewalk and the officers (witnesses) attempted to stop the man and ask him to clean it up. He got loud and they were going to write him a summons...and you know the rest of the story! What is News 12's goal here? To create more animosity...to allow society to become reckless and lawless???? What they are showing is be belligerent, don't follow the laws of the land...if the police stop you, we will back you up by putting you on television! That is some ish, huh?

The Mets won tonight, but they are still only 3 games ahead of the Phillies in the East. The Mets have to push just as hard as the Yanks, cause losing to the Phils will not only knock them out of the East, but out of the playoffs all together. Not to mention that the Mets were just swept by their division rival and also meet them the weekend of September 14, 15, 16 at Shea...a weekend that could mean a lot for both NY teams. I support the Mets, although not a fan, because I love beating them! Especially in another Subway Series...and Randolph will always be a Yankee!!!

This starts at the Management level...turning a blind eye to EVOC and other emergency driver programs is the best way to allow this to happen. EVOC should not be a 1 time thing either, but a recurring and re-testing situation...maybe yearly. As well, members should use some common sense...arrive alive don't be dumb and drive! None of us want to read a story about anyone we know missing the boat on this one. So stand up and speak, and push for a reliable and proven driver training program for your organization. And, EMPRESS, this goes especially for you! You once had a great class for the newbie's which included driver training and EVOC evaluations but cut it to reduce overhead! The money you save now is a great down payment on a lawsuit you could see coming in the near future because of the lack of training. Driving with a "senior" partner and doing okay is not the answer! Get real!

No, but the had to manually pump the "johnny pumps"!!!! (For those youngin's including myself, that is the old name of a fire hydrant)

You should never worry about anything! Study, pay attention, and do your best every single moment of everyday, and never look back!

Once again I bear bad news. Another retired Yonkers police officer passed away, just hours after visiting with the family of Ret. PO Capraro Sr., Frank Hollywood passed away in his residence. Frank's son Michael is a Yonkers police officer assigned to the 2nd precinct and our condolences go out to him and his family. Mike is getting married soon and this unfortunate turn of events makes everything a little different. Frank is officially 10-7 and may God rest his soul. Obit taken from LoHud.com

A little off the topic...but after seeing mfc's avatar, that spinning light thing (rotoray), on my computer it flashes blue around each of the lights as it spins...they should do that to the real thing, put a blue led ring around each halogen bulb...that would definitely get someones attention!!!!!!! Can this post be intellectual property? so when they do it, I get 10 bucks for each one produced?????? Don't delete this Seth...I will kick you back some!
