Once is more than enough...it is cause for alarm...cause it keeps happening! I thought it was pretty interesting how he was arrested at the scene...either he is a braggart or someone watched him do it! Pretty sad! YOU SHOULD NEVER PLAY WITH MATCHES!

So I am not held to my 1 liner... As previously stated, after running up and down those stairs, a heart rate will obviously be elevated and any normal person may have some shortness of breath. This is where diagnostic tools and common sense come into place. Sit him down, cool him down, throw him on the monitor, pulse ox, listen to breath sounds, check his skin...or in plain emtlish (play on words) do a proper patient assessment. If 5-10 minutes go by and the vitals don't change and the patient is still complaining then maybe they really need a little help. As well age and physical fitness come in on the assessment and will help any trained professional do their job. On the other note, there may have been nothing they could do for him, we still don't know why he died, it could have been a pulmonary embolism or something that shook off and caused it...until we know the autopsy it is a mystery. As for suspending a paramedic that assessed a patient that later died is ridiculous. We are human beings and have the ability to make mistakes, hence to err (not air) is human. How many times have we picked up a patient having heart problems or in cardiac arrest and later learn they saw the cardiologist within the past 4 days (sometimes even the same day) and they die. Should they suspend the doctor? Should they revoke his license? Or should we realize that nature takes its course? Should we consider that there is really a time when it is your time? These are philosophical questions that require an immense amount of thought, but they are worth pondering...

Thanks for bringing her up! I am sure my wife would love to hear that!!!! Remember the OSSBP (Original Saratoga Springs Brew Pub)? I still have the beer pints!!!!!! Bring them out along with the ones from Hudson's (Wappingers), Heartland Brewery (NYC), among others that were "pilfered" in that chicks pocket book!!!! I think I have some from some college bar in Syracuse that Sean Mac and a few of us went to one time...maybe even INIT was with us...maybe I should make some time and come back for the things like that!

Technical info about the photos...It was dark and I didn't want to use a flash. I set the frame speed to 0.8, or 4/5ths of a second (80/100's). (on sunny days I use a lens hood and 1/4000th of a second frame speed). I used the standard canon 18/35 lens and for closeups I used my canon efs 70-300 digital lens with built in image stabilization. Held up the line a little at times, had to stand real still or the frames would come out blurry (as did about half-that I discarded) Took a total of 220 shots. Once again, Thank God for digital cameras, couldn't imagine what that would have cost in film!

We went last night!!! So much fun, the kid loved it. I will post a few photos here, but you can see the rest at: My photos, once at the homepage, just click on the title at the top and that will bring you into the album. As well, if it is the Croton FD's idea, the pre-placed fire extinguishers marked with glow sticks was a great idea. And the new Croton PD car is nice...Ford Explorer (I think!). 4,000 pumpkins, of which 500 are real and the rest are fun-pkins which are styrofoam look alikes! We actually purchased one for display at our home!

I used to love going to this conference. Favorite time was in Saratoga Springs! Went with CCVAC 2-3 times and with Empress once...yes got them to pay for it too...Is a very good training conference, learned a lot of neat tricks. Too bad I am no longer an EMT and I definitely don't have time to go anyways!

My brother-in-law is a new foreman...he will be there. My daughter is going...I will be sleeping, working a double tonight overnight!

You all have your points, but maybe keeping people calm was a better option. The studio may have a policy in place that says if there is no imminent danger they don't panic people for no reason. In situations such as this it may be better to have them sit, calm them down, and then if needed coordinate a controlled evacuation. Schools drill our children on this all of the time so they understand how to do it and also where to go already, but mix in 300 or so (maybe more) adults that haven't had a fire drill in years and don't know what is happening and it could become tragic for no reason. When the fire alarms sounds at a hospital, we don't evacuate the entire facility immediately, do we???? Use your heads people...this is where thinking outside the box is so important!

No different than many of the households in Mt. Vernon or any of the other buildings in the city, including the schools! Someone once told me, "If we get a job in the Vern, don't put the bags on the floor, and don't lean on the walls in the house!" Guess it goes for firehouses too.... It is ridiculous, buildings are constructed in the "government" setting and then they just sit there, hardly maintained, very rarely cleaned. As for a firehouse, shouldn't the members do what they can to keep up their "temporary home away from home"? I mean, routine cleaning and such, even us dispatchers usually clean up after ourselves...we do have a cleaning crew come through on the week nights, they vacuum and change the garbages and such, but if you spill something, you clean it up...and if there is a problem you pass it along in a timely fashion and not wait for it to get worse!

I knew there was a fresh air vent attached to all of the drains in a residence...I never thought that if I had to that would be the place to go and breath! Pretty interesting stuff...

9 million to build a whole new building? Is that really enough? I guess for the "Police" it is. And another 9 million to renovate and make things better at the already existing "Fire and Emergency Services"???? Guess we know who is more politically connected!

What the phrase "Truth in reporting" actually means! I am tired of them taking stories for more than they really are and running away with them to gain ratings!

I don't like the all red light bar in the back window nor the white light back there that looks like a strobe...could have got a better set up.

That would make it a little easier to keep it.

I don't even look at the games...just mark them as read and move on...doesn't even get my attention. So if they want to post em...I don't care.

I agree with JC, the fact of these studies is just to show opposition to Government. People see this happen to someone and they don't want it to ever happen to them so they want it taken away. It is sad that the general population has no idea of what really goes on outside of their little "box" of a life! For each shooting that doesn't happen as a result of this new technology, that is 1 less officer that has to live with the fact that they shot and killed another human being! Most cops are not murderers, and have feelings, little be it known. So not only is it good, it is good (meant to do that)!

I would rather have as many collecting dust, than have none at all. The Yankees are the winningest franchise in sports history! No one in any other sport has done what they have! To make it to the playoffs 13 years in a row is an awesome feat. To not win the World Series in the past 7 years, is disappointing, but you can't win them all, even though Steinbrenner feels this way! I think that Baseball, as a sport, needs other teams to come up with wins, so the sport doesn't die out in certain markets. So, go Indians and Rockies, although no one will really watch, this will help these teams, cause fans love their teams when they are winning! As for the manager situation, If Joe Torre is dumped, my choice would be Joe Girardi. I definitely don't want the Larussa guy coming into NY and killing this team like he did to the Cardinals and A's. He will not be able to manage the ego's and the media and will get run into the ground. And then there is Bernie Williams, will he return as a coach? That would be great, just don't put him on the bases, cause he was fast but made some poor decisions as a base runner! He should be the hitting coach!!!!!!

With all the ads, shouldn't it be free??? They are getting your money and the money from advertisers, talk about win-win...only thing that makes more this way is CABLE TV!!!! Funny how you don't have to pay for radio, the ads take up the cost...Unless you have Satellite and then you pay a measly $12.99 or so a month...I have this, just for my daughter...Sirius Kids (116) is her favorite station, and you don't have to worry about them listening to all the "other stuff" that goes on, on radio. This issue just made me think, how big of suckers we are...I mean I understand that you can get "over the air" television for free, and have an Aunt in Croton that still does this!, but why with all the ads do we have to pay so much for the tv??? I can see a 1 time connection fee to hook up to the services, and if you want them to set up your house with wiring, which most of us can do ourselves, then that can be another charge. Next you can pay for "premium" channells, rent the box and anything on demand you do...but that should be customer to customer...otherwise, it should cost the individual a bare minimum. And, not the $49 a month I think it is regularly. Oh yeah, we were talking about some magazine!
