  1. Didn't they make a movie about something like this, where they pretended there was a war to get a President elected??? Sounds like they tried to be a little too Hollywood...considering that is probably where this took place!
  2. I do remember that statement...I also recall a retire County Sgt. (sounds like Deck Her) that used to give everyone lectures about how moving the siren down interfered with its effectiveness...said ground noise flooded it out altogether...
  3. Love how they have the emergency lights on the entire time...what a waste! As for the fumes...they go up to the vents don't they????? If it were a fully enclosed building I could see it being a problem, but most malls have fresh air vents in the hallways and higher ceilings so I doubt it needed to be considered here. As well it was really prolonged exposure...
  4. Like it better without the push bumper! They are not moving disableds off the parkways, what so they can push the shopping carts instead of pull em? I know even down in Yonkers most of the new cars if not all are coming with them too...but we don't end pursuits that way so I think they are useless!
  5. Woe, woe, woe...Calm down! How many times do you think that Chicago FD has called for mutual aid ambulances? The fact is that most of us probably went down to the World Trade Center incident and how many of us actually knew the way????? Maps are good, but in emergencies people get anxious and forget what they are supposed to do every day. GPS are good too, but they too have their faults, just ask the Yorktown Medics, I have heard a few funny stories!!! The fact is that the system was overwhelmed, and this was a tragedy! No one made him run the race, he took his own risk by doing so, it is horrible that he perished but it could have been prevented by many other means. It is a real possibility that he had no chance at living once he collapsed. The crew getting lost on its way to the hospital could have been prevented by easier means...grab someone at the scene, a cop, a passerby and get strict directions. Reading many of the stories regarding this marathon, it was a mess!!!!!! As well, it is up to the individual to take appropriate action! How many people have gotten lost? I am sure we all have at some point in time! I recall the first trip to Lawrence Hospital from Post 7 at Empress...two roads and I still was like, "WTF?"...crazy! So Happy Its Thursday happens!
  6. The Great Jack-O-Lantern blaze begins this coming weekend, actually last night to be exact...ooops! This is an excellent event for everyone. It takes place in Croton-on-Hudson at the Historic Van Cortlandt Manor (located near the Shoprite). This event showcases 1000's of pumpkins cut into all different shapes and such and is just plain amazing! Check it out for yourself, and if you have kids, join the Historic Hudson Valley Society, gives you some ideas of things to do and places to visit throughout the year! I will be doing some photographing/videoing of this event and of the other sites and will create links and post them hear when they are prepared! Link to Historic Hudson Valley Society: Historic Hudson Valley Link to the Blaze Page direct: The Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze...Oooooo! MFY!
  7. I have to say, I have done the "heard it on the scanner" dispatch. Both as a dispatcher and as a field member. At my old job, there were times when the 911 center "forgot" to call the EMS provider with the job, so I simply did a little extra and got the info off the scanner and dispatched the unit where it was needed. In this sense, at least they got the help they needed. In the field, I "buffed" my share of jobs, in fact my share, your share, your best friend's share, etc. I guess we went a little overboard, however, we never did respond "Code 3" unless we had a very good reason, such as Officer Down, FF trapped or injured! There were a number of jobs we showed up on, just to show up in case we were needed, however we stayed in service until we were needed, and if the need arose we were already there, cutting down on the precious response time by safely making out way over...It is a two way street, however, as a dispatcher I can say I don't get annoyed with people going on their own, just like to know that you are going so I know where to find you. I think it is worse when you try to send someone somewhere and they are tied up on a job you didn't know the "buffed"...........
  8. What I just did is something the media would do! Taken out of context it is damn dirty!!!!!!
  9. If it were Sox-Yanks, then I would wager. I don't have anything riding on a team called the Rockies, named after the mountains they sit upon, and is owned by Coors. I am a heiniken fan! I apologize, but I am not putting my points nor my avatar in their pocket and hoping for the best. Don't take this the wrong way, by having to put a Yankee logo up as your avatar, you would become a man and gain so much respect you wouldn't know what to do...as for Big Papi the designated hitter of the Dominican Republic I have nothing against the guy but the fact that he is a Red Sox and that is just enough. There are only two things I like from New England, Clam Chowder and Lobster!
  10. Ouch!
  11. Yeah, yeah, yeah...so they don't have shotgun racks...sorry! I only went to Oswego so I have no idea where this is...right? Syracuse although a city, is hick to me, maybe not as much as like Jamestown or Putnam Valley (sorry) but still not the true burbs or Cities, all they have is minor league baseball and a great college basketball program and an okay football program.
  12. Sorry I am also stuck on "Bowtie? Really?". I just can't imagine it without seeing it, someone with a pic or link? I am too busy right now to research it! I do like the NYSP uniforms, but if "best" dressed is truly best than the bowties win! That is truly your Sunday Best! Forget the link, found it in x635's original post...Kind of strange if you ask me, is it a trooper or a chippendale dancer?
  13. Once again, this has not moved anywhere in the legislature... Status as of 10-25-2007: STATUS: A8596-A Abbate Retirement and Social Security Law TITLE....Permits certain public safety dispatchers, public safety telecommunicators and communication officers to retire upon completion of 25 years of creditable service 05/22/07 referred to governmental employees 06/14/07 amend and recommit to governmental employees 06/14/07 print number 8596a 06/20/07 reported referred to ways and means Guess there are bigger fish to fry, like each other!
  14. This just goes to show it is not just the FF's that are getting shorted in "Money Earnin' Mt. Vernon". I think the only money being earned went into Ernie's pockets!!!! From one department to the next you see old worn out equipment in Mt. Vernon, I really think it is time for a change over there, but I don't live there and can't vote for one...it is up to the residents to be persuaded to choose a new Mayor, and the departments can do their side and endorse the one that will bring them their change!
  15. Well, if you are supposed to be working, then you shouldn't be taking photos of the scene, you should be doing your job! That would be where ethics come into play!
  16. I would say it, but I got another forum closed by doing so!
  17. Yankees, lol.
  18. What is in public view is in public view, even if it is captured on "film". There is no law saying you can't take pictures of crimes, however the photographer should use ethics to determine if they should post the picture or wait til the investigating agency has issued a press release. You should also be ready to testify about the photos you took...you never know what you may have gotten that could be used later on either end of a trial.
  19. It is not a day for rail fans in particular, it is an open house to express what they do and what services they offer to give the general public a better understanding! If they want pics that are uninterrupted, then rent a locomotive and park it in their yard! It wasn't an invite event! I took pics at an event recently and I didn't hold up the line nor did I get pissy with anyone, just took what I could get!
  20. I found the following article while scanning the Yonkers news on LoHud.com today. This makes good police work go for naught! It seems as though the jury based their decision on CSI again, depending on DNA. The gun was in the car, are you telling me that they would not have used it? Ridiculous again! As well, that last portion of the article states that Frazier was found guilty of murder and the conviction was overturned because he was high on PCP and it was originally not admitted as evidence...So, it is not murder if you are high??? A murderer with a gun in his car....hmmmm! Not Guilty! Right!
  21. My feeling is this, if you have a gun in your car, you intend to use it if need be. Especially if it is an illegal hand gun. If there are more than 1 person in the car they are each responsible for it if it is not on one's person. Matching DNA and stuff on an unused gun doesn't mean that we haven't prevented a crime. If we catch them before they kill someone, maybe they shouldn't do as much time but maybe they need to learn a lesson and not just be cut loose! Society needs to realize that you can't only fight crime by solving it once it has happened.
  22. It's rural NY, they spec out the apparatus with shotgun racks...where you guys been? Guess this guy had a pretty bad day huh? Shot his friend, lost his job, got arrested, got his driver's license revoked, got his pistol permit revoked...all in all maybe he should stop drinking?????
  23. Yonkers: 10-36 OS - Outside Smoke Investigation - 1 Engine Co. response. 10-36 IS - Inside Smoke Condition - Full Assignment including Rescue and Safety Battalion. 10-29 - Smoke emitting from structure is dispatched as a possible structure fire - Full assignment, Rescue, Safety. Most of the outside smoke calls we get are people who don't know that you can burn wood to keep warm! Hopefully you get that...
  24. Who was offended by that? LOL j/k of course!
