Always gotta love when they get a collateral arrest of some idiot that showed up driving drunk to pick up their friend/relative who was just arrested for the same! Good work WCPD/SPD...making my ride home at night safer!

IMO there should be an on call schedule for the chief(s) and the one on call for a time period shall be permitted to use a properly marked department vehicle for dept/pers business within or within close proximity (less than 10 miles) to the district. When the other appointed chief(s) are within the fire district and "available" to respond to calls they should be allowed to use the department vehicle. As well, if department business takes personnel out of the district they should use an unmarked vehicle that is property of the district. So as to say, all departments should have 2 marked command units and one unmarked vehicle such as a van or extended SUV to carry personnel to training, conduct district business out of town (such as look at apparatus being manufactured), etc. Exceptions may come up, and should be handled by the Board of Commissioners based upon statewide policies. I don't think it is appropriate to take a district/dept vehicle to a bar, also! I am not saying that a Chief's job isn't difficult, however it is about time agencies begin to find ways to ease the burden on the taxpayers and save some dollars. Lest we forget, most of the time a significant number of members of the department are a portion of the tax base, and everyone is always talking about a tax break for being a member...well you want it, make it happen!

If it is the type of situation you just described, and you were informed to stage away, then I would have to say, TURN YOUR RED LIGHTS OFF to begin with! Obviously all you are going to do is rush to wait! Take your time, stage at a major intersection in the area and await further instructions. 2-3 blocks away is best, I think.

Please tell me you are not applying to SLC...I know you are from Bedford, but what have those schools got that you are actually looking for? SUNY Albany transports as well as SAVAC (Student Assoc. VAC) in Oswego, NY. I also believe that Fordham transports on occasion...

I had that insurance thing happen to me too...I learned later that the old company sent the DMV a nice letter after the new company had transmitted the information. The later told them that I was no longer insured. The DMV worker must have just stamped it, suspended my reg, and sent out the nice letter to me. I then had to prove I had insurance by going into an office. When they pulled up my account it showed the new company's name with the suspension for a lapse...however the notes showed the old company's name as declaring no insurance...way to read and verify both are the same!!!! However, now whenever I do anything with the DMV I always ask my cousin or aunt who work in the Peekskill office to keep an eye on it for me!

Along the same lines, the Yonkers FD does a ludicrous amount of calls to Sarah Lawrence College in the Bronxville section of the city. This facility has a number of buildings on different streets with a number of zones to their fire alarm system, that at 1 time was just way too confusing. IMO they should buy the city a fire apparatus every 10 years or so in order to keep the burden off the taxpayers that don't call nearly as much! Maybe Purchase should do the same???? I am sure these colleges have the money! BTW SLC is one of, if not, the highest costing colleges in the USA. I am sure Purchase, albeit a State U school is doing just fine!

Dude, your link links back to this...guess you might have been tired!

That's what I want, to be pulled over for being "good". Probably scares the poop out of these poor innocent people! And then you get the one that forgot to make that insurance payment and gets their car impounded for going the speed limit and driving well but got pulled over anyways.

I have always despised the non-snow cleaner offers...First of all, half forget the back window altogether...I am sure they don't drive with their mirrors regularly so it must inhibit their driving even more. On a side note, I made my sister cry about this...she goes all the way to Stanford from Wappingers Falls...didn't clean her car! When she got home I asked if she could live with being responsible for killing someone cause ice flew off her car into another's. She is pregnant, guess I worded it a little harsh, but I wanted to make a point! She travels 84 to either the TSP or 684 and then 95...you know everyone goes about 70-80 especially during the am and pm rush hours! I would like to see more action taken by each department, such as safety checkpoints with a statewide initiative on "free" ice scrapers given out to remind people and make it happen right then and there!

I have been playing around with the Yonkers GIS mapping system. I love it, and learn more everytime I play around. One night we had a couple of small fires and PSDEFM84 and I had the maps up and could see the properties, structures, hydrants, exposures, and all of that good stuff. Recently on the PD side we have had a few burglaries in the 1st precinct area...2 in about 45 minutes the other day. I was able to print out a GIS map zoomed in on area with properties highlighted to show proximity and forwarded it to the units working the job. It showed a common back yard area that was lined with trees. In one of those burglaries, the homeowner was actually in the shower and got out to find the condition...didn't see the suspects though.

That is flat out cool. I am sure the Navy will be using this for good press and trying to get people to sign up! I just want to know if the surgery was done on the USS RR or if she was flown into shore side?

I think we hit a sore spot with CHAZ! Calm down man, take it easy and stay off the road for a day or two....LOL

That's why I only stay at "MOTELS" !!!!!

Huh, Fire and EMS together on the Same property, Imagine That????? Congratulations and I can't wait to see it, once it is built...what 2020?
-
2nd that!!!!!! It does make sense, and works elsewhere...oh yeah you know on the Left Coast, down South, Out West, but just like FD and EMS don't mix, having a county wide system is just that, LUDICROUS! BTW I am kidding...I am in favor of centralizing everything and it seems I am in the lowly minority in this County!

No Yonkers Emergency Crews responded to this incident. As well, Chris pointed out that using an X-Ray device emits radiation, thus having to clear the area (liability issue) and announce said is going on.

I remember years ago hearing about NDP, a very small company, 7-8 I guess years ago. I for one, never thought that they would make it, due to their location and such. Congratulations, as well, this is Capitalism at its best!

I believe that Paramedic pay should resemble that of the nurse's in the local emergency rooms and should include a bonus for hazard pay, something like an addition 5-10% differential for working in the field, having to carry equip, patients, and not being in a controlled environment. In essence, a Medic is a Field Nurse, that can provide care based on protocol and standing orders, but has to consult with an MD for further just as is done in the ER. However, how many medics get paid 90,000 after 10 years???? NONE! unless you are really really special! Or work so much OT you forget how to get home! As for EMT's they are comparable to aide's with a little better training and more extensive medical knowledge. So I say start em at 15-20 an hour and work up from there, including that hazard differential. Vote for Me for Mayor of your town!

There goes the stabilization! Good thing he was already on a backboard!

I know that the State usually uses 2 persons in the trucks, right? Is it safe to use the wing with no spotter on that side of the truck? Just seems risky to have to pay attention to the road, traffic, and still make sure the wing doesn't accidentally damage anything or kill anyone... I appreciate all the work these crews do, even though I have a 4WD vehicle and love driving in the SNOW! I also think that my Village does an excellent job, considering they have like 9 trucks on the road to handle 1 Square mile! Sorry 1054, had to shout you out like that!

One word: Harassment! It is better if you use D50!
