It is not only small departments that get take home cars. There are a number of places around the country, including Prince George's County, the CSP (Connecticut), and many others that issues take homes to all. Only thing is, you can't live a 1000 miles from the district, you have to live within the "confines" (LOL). Wilmington, NC is another job that does this. None of the aforementioned however print the officer's names on the doors of the vehicle. As for the airforce, don't they use nicknames?

Bridgeport is Connecticuts Mount Vernon and vice versa!

Not so bad...hope the elderly don't have trouble reading it though, you know those 35 and older! The type is small. However it is less cluttered than the previous design.

Cool...

Take out the UNDER 21 and OVER 61 and you have less than 100 to begin with! Maybe not only addressing the other issues, but tackling the age issue may be an idea! I know they were a small percent, however they are a part of the total number.

Kujo, since you live on the Left Coast, over here in NY the big thing is the Times Square Ball Drop. I'm sorry White Plains, we know that is second to your ball dropping...but for post's sake... What do they do out there? Does LA or San Diego have something similar. Or do they drop something heavy off of the Golden Gate Bridge up in San Fran? I mean, kind of cool, you can watch the ball drop on TV in NY and then head off to your party out West and do it all over again, NO?

Isn't it called the Greenburgh HEAT? Hudson Emergency A? Team?????? Question asked originally about who pays for this stuff, Taxpayers do in Yonkers as in most other jurisdictions. The YPD Marine Unit consists of 4 full time ESU trained boating experts (so-called). One of which may be someone important to this site. Unconfirmed though cause I only see him ever cooking Sausage and Peppers and never doing any real work! J/K of course. The YFD also has a marine unit per say, Fireboat 1 also a seasonal resource just like the PD. However, I believe ESU can grab a Zodiac any time and Engine 308 also has a zodiac available. Information I received is that Rockland County SO is available 365, and 366 for next year (Ooops THIS year). Unconfirmed because I haven't had to call them yet... Yonkers also has a vintage chapter of the Volunteer Life Saving Corps which are a type of naval militia or something. Frank Kendrick (RIP) was the leader of this group, however he perished while assisting a female who attempted suicide by jumping into the Hudson in 2001. On a side note, the same woman did commit suicide this past December by jumping off the roof of her building. I don't believe there are any active members still around other than Frank's wife Kay who last I knew spent most of her days in her booth at the City Pier. (if it is still there since X2O was put in).

That is my point, each and every department has their own response procedures, however, smoke inside a house or a burning odor should generate the same response as an actual, visible, flame producing, out the roof fire! It is much less confusing to the however many responders if it is generalized, such as "possible" structure fire, since the dispatcher doesn't drive over there first to see what is really happening! Your opinion is shaded by what, I don't know, but until you either are or have been a dispatcher you will not understand why it is that we do what we do. As well, if the cross streets are wrong, go out there and find out why! Maybe what you thought was the closest cross street is a private (named) road and as a result does not actually have a town/permanent record. If this is the case or the street is just not in there, re-do your individual response area maps and provide them to the 911 center appropriately. Include things such as closest hydrant, or available water supply to tankers if necessary. If you think you can make it better than do so. There are also some places that use the closest major roadway as cross streets because not everyone in the district may know where Emtbravo Pl is located along xyz street cause it is a small roadway.

Congratulations...when is the Magazine gonna start?

Yonkers 911 CAD #'s (not actual PD/FD/EMS, just entered jobs): 160,371 Yonkers FD responses: 15,159 (that includes all FD types for response) Yonkers PD: I have no idea even how to figure out that...just too difficult! None of these numbers are "official". They are just view only stats...

Smoke usually means fire, no? Maybe the CAD system is simplified so that there aren't a multitude of different codes to be entered generating different responses. How many different, do it there own way, fire departments exist in Putnam. If you were to have a CAD code such as "Inside Smoke" (which we have in Yonkers) it would have to have a specific type of response generated which would probably be different for each and every agency. So, since inside smoke would need a FULL ASSIGNMENT until investigated and figured out, the possible Structure Fire is fine, once again usually smoke means fire of some sort, contained or uncontained! You do nothing different for inside smoke as you do for fire, you get your gear on and presume there is fire since there is smoke, so how would you better prepare for this? Maybe you wouldn't go, cause the dispatcher said smoke only and not flames? As for the delay between tones, I know that we, once again here in Yonkers, specifically wait a few moments after the tones are done sounding for the "trailers" (as they are known here) and Klaxton system finish sounding in the houses so that our transmission is then clear and can be heard correctly the first time. If a dispatcher began to speak immediately after the tones went out, you may miss the first few words because you pager was still beeping! Not everyone keeps their pager on their belt 24/7, we have to assume that it may be in another room and you have to get to it, giving everyone a fair shake at hearing the alarm and getting sufficient manpower is important. It is really annoying when people call the 911 center asking where the job is cause they missed the dispatch, so a little delay gives everyone time to prepare and listen, lets the buffiness wear off a little! Neither of these issues you raise are specific to Putnam 911, they are basic dispatcher duties, some places simplify their CAD systems so that the response agencies aren't left confused day in and day out by who is to respond since in the Vollie systems, the dispatcher airs the alarm and does not dispatch individuals companies to each job. In the Cities, they have more enhanced dispatch information codes and more prepared responses and companies are sent individually even in groups.

Someone should buy that thing and keep it local for parades and such. What a great antique piece...and it was only recently re-placed.

Just take the TSP and pray! Or go to Mapquest of a site with maps and see what you can find out by zooming in on the area!

I remember a time when they used to send over the probie's to ride along at Empress...there were always a couple of cuties, each semester, never minded having a 3rd... As for a new bus, they should do a mass-mailing to the alumni association, requesting a 2-5 dollar donation and see where it gets them, I do believe that they get some monies from the campus dues each student pays, if I remember correctly, but those are only provided by rooming students, not commuters/locals!

EMTBravo Volunteer Fire Services Organization...can see it now...Right! LMAO Seth has enough on his plate, he don't need his own fire trucks!

I was thinking the same thing...he blew the doors off the defense 2 times in a row...The 2nd pass was just a beautiful thing! I am not really a football fan, but this was a great game. Almost though Eli was going to pull it out! Until that interception in the 4th quarter. Was well worth watching! Although, it was more beefed up than a superbowl, with the 3 station coverage and all. Eli had to be pissed, not only did Brady beat him, but Brady broke his brother's TD pass record in the same day, while going undefeated! Ouch!

RIP For clarification, Flynn Memorial Home is located at 1652 Central Park Ave in Yonkers. On the northbound ramp from Tuckahoe Rd to CPA north.
