Tom, as usual, very well put. Experience always helps, starting out small is the easiest way to get better at it. So many chiefs not enough indians is all to common, people need to wake up!

Maybe I too am a bit confused at this subject, I am only a dispatcher of course... IMO a unit assigned to FAS/RIT is at work, their job at the fire scene is just that, so technically they are not going to work, they are being re-assigned and undermining the safety of all other firefighters at the scene. FAS/RIT should not be at the beckon call of the Incident Commander, instead they should be separate, and do their job! Yes, the IC requests the team, but once on scene they should have their own leader and not interact with the regular fire operation, they should provide a sense of safety/security on the scene, be seen making sure that everyone goes home! Would it be wrong to equivocate this to a PD scenario, what if the dispatcher was 'put to work'? A car gets into some crap and calls for help and no one is there, now what? Same idea, we all have our jobs to do, re-assigning a unit to something else that takes them away from their primary duty is absolutely a horrible idea, don't put your people in jeopardy, let FAS/RIT do their job! And for team leaders, be wary of being re-assigned, don't let it happen, no matter how much you guys want to get dirty, who is gonna rescue you if s*** goes down?

And this matters why? It is 2008, we have computers now, and other technologies. The point of this thread is that there seems to be a decline in overall society as to the "Who Cares" mentality. This is just another one of those examples that everywhere people are doing less and getting away with it, and in some cases how civil service is failing the people. There once was a time when everyone got into the Emergency services because they actually wanted too, now there is a group that are just in it for the paycheck, and it damn shows! I firmly believe that each individual is responsible for being the best at his or her job, but I do have a work ethic while others don't. End Rant!

Very Funny!

E314 is a front line piece, and E302 is a spare designation. There are a number of spares, I do not however know all of them because we don't deal with them all that often. They begin at E298, and go to E317 using numbers not already assigned to stations as front line apparatus. E300 is the LDH spare and is stored at Sta. 12. As well spare ladders run from 76-80. The collapse unit is an old Mack and the Foam unit hasn't changed as far as I know, but I don't get to that side of the city all that often as I work on the West Side.

The truth is, Ladder 77 belongs to Banksville, here in Yks we just use the number because it is next in sequence for our own reasons. Since the chances of both 77's being on the same assignment are slim to NONE, no one actually cares what we use. Our front line apparatus are all that is important here, the rest of the numbers on Yks vehicles are our very own. Yonkers also lists all ladders as ladders, we do not differentiate during dispatch or operations except on the scene they are used accordingly. Some agencies are dispatched as TL or LT or just L where as in Yks, everyone just goes by L for ladder.

As for Nascar, I am not a fan, can watch very little! Quick story: My sister is into it huge! One day about 10 years ago she came home with a Home Depot jacket on. I didn't know anything about Nascar and asked her why the hell she got a job at HD cause she didn't know crap about fixing things and such. She flipped me off and I learned who Tony Stewart is!

These trucks are also equipped with MDT's. Now the ESU guys can read the jobs themselves instead of bothering me. LOL!!!! They are nice though, I actually like the new box better than the old one. Oh and for the ESU Big Rig, did someone say September?

Great, When I go home at night, I will actually have to wait for all of the lights? I can't wait to see where these will be set up! I just read the article, and Coucilman Murtagh and Lesnick are absolute idiots. Civil liberties don't include running red lights while speeding and killing someone! Nor should we car if it is a Yonkers resident that gets ticketed or not, you do the crime, you do the time! Once again, the city of hills, where absolutely nothing is on the level. Obviously these guys are more concerned with votes than what is RIGHT!

3 As for the real topic, this is a great idea. Whoever thought of this is imaginative and thinks way outside the box. As well, all of the other ideas posted are great as well. I mean didn't they recently use the water supply on a concrete delivery vehicle to try to put out a car fire on I-684? If you can't adapt and figure out a way to "win" then maybe you should re-think your way of thinking!

I remember coming home from school, turning on the television and thinking it was the afternoon movie, until I realized it was on every channel!!!!! That was crazy, only thing crazier was 2001!

And you wonder why our taxes are so high! We should get a break for having to put up with bs like this!

I personally believe the youth of this current generation were not taught one bit of responsibility. I had to learn mine the hard way! I remember going to parties (in the woods!), there was the "aqueduct" and "the dunes" and a number of other spots. Never once did I drive to or from the party except to drop off the Keg earlier in the day and ice it! Now it seems that if you find one of these parties, you have to take some type of action that will make headlines. I remember the Troopers busting one of our shindigs one night and just making sure that everyone that was getting into a car got into one with someone who had not had a drink! Isn't that enough? Do we really need to collar everyone, or is it because of one BIG mistake that occurred in Harrison a few years ago where a couple of boys obviously made the worst mistake of their lives. The fact is, that all of this MEDIA impact and the Busting Up of Parties has gained momentum since that day. So, eventually will it wear off or will it get worst down the road? I know, as a parent, that these parties will not be held at my house because it ain't worth the agony of the media and courts, but I guess I will have to worry along with the other parents as to where our children have gone for the night, and what were they doing. You can't leash them all of the time, trust me, my parents tried! Teens will have to learn some severe lessons along the way, just hope that if you are the parent that you taught them the right way and trust that they will make the right decision!

I already have my name in my profile, my screen name is just a part of me, something I have had for a long time and reminds me of my college days and some other stuff that I will not post about! I am not afraid that people know who I am when I speak, there are groups on here that know each other pretty well even with a screen name, because it is obvious who we are, we are the one's that are never afraid to speak up to anyone when we something is dead wrong, and we are also the one's who recognize a need for change when we are criticized. If someone wants to hide behind a screen name, let them, that is their prerogative! Once, again, I am not afraid of what I say here! What needs to be done is that each individual needs to be accountable to them self first, if you can't accept criticism pointed at you, don't post here criticizing others! Anytime I speak up, it is to help someone else, not to hurt them! If I see a department or individual acting in a manner less than safe or correct, I will not hesitate to speak my mind, even if they don't learn from it, someone else will! This is not the 70's and 80's, this is the 21st century, you can be sued for anything, start acting right and doing things the way they are supposed to and LIVE!

Is that a Marron? in the first pic of the DFFD Ladder truck? Just wondering cause he does look awfully familiar!
-
They only get 1 or 2 calls a year, so this scenario is almost obsolete. Otherwise, I am sure this guy can fend for himself when it comes to money terms and legal necessity! Some people get more than others, just a way of life!

OUCH!

The Ferara looks sharp. Wonder where it is going.... As for the REP's I have no idea who is building them, but the Yonkers T3 came out great from odyssey, as far as I can see....maybe one day someone will remember that I work in a closet and come visit so I can see the insides! The new T3 also has an MDT! So now they can see what BS we are sending them too.....

Yeah, this is a little ridiculous! A commissioner, a chief, 16 sgts, and 2 patrolmen! Look at their website, everyone carries some sort of rank! Another dept that should be eaten up by the Town Police since they are there everyday anyway!

Didn't CCVAC used to have a group that taught this? I was one of them, but I left...don't know about the rest.................
