No FD on the highway in Montrose on plain EMS calls unless there is a new policy in place...usually a trooper or 27C (West. Cnty.) In Yonkers (The City of Gracious Living?), We send 2 engines with EMS on all medical type calls on highway, hence the code 10-45HW.....MVA's on HW get 2 engines, 1 ladders, rescue or squad, safety battalion, and respective battalion chief.

Putnam should go to a countywide EMS system with a combination department. If volunteers want to continue serving, they would "work" shifts that they are able to and participate in community events as well as man additional units during disasters or major incidents. Otherwise there should be a number of BLS ambulances on duty and Paramedic Fly-cars 24/7! The call volume and the staffing necessitates this.

What dept? Peekskill????
-
There was a time when Peekskill had horns...that was an awful long time ago! Maybe early 80's something went wrong and that was that! I am not against this, I like the Buchanan's sounds everyday at noon and Montrose at 5, and maybe Verplanck at 6. I don't wear a watch so this keeps me in tune with the time!

Nice! Now for what he really got........use your imagination....would like to see "Kristen!" Oh and did anyone catch Nick Spano on News12???? He is playing his cards...trying to appease the people...I do like him though, always found money for emergency services...

Can an admin/Mod make a sticky with a link to the Google Maps (version photo'd on 4/17/04, with photo/mapping overlays) somewhere as a quick link to same, poss in IA area so people can get a quick shot of where the job is and so on? Just set it up for White Plains or something as a starting point!

Check the last two incident alerts that I posted...you will click on the link in the IA post and be brought straight to the block...of course this is not required but I will do it.

What about leather gloves...most guys I know (myself included) use those...first with gloves on, squeeze the pockets firmly and then search them internally...most objects can be identified as either a hazard or not through this method. If it is hard use caution it could be dangerous!

Wasn't it "E161"? I have the original Code 3 and remember that number...

I am not a firefighter nor chauffeur, but why in the world would you need to wear your gear while driving to the scene of the fire? I mean come on, what time does it save? You either get dressed, get into the truck (excuse me), and then go to the scene OR you get in the truck, go to the scene, and then get dressed... If safety is what we are talking then I would rather see you do the latter and not make the million dollar handling machine any harder to drive than needed!!!!

I am confused how the city has to pick up the tab, what were retired members doing driving the apparatus? That seems ridiculous to me!

Are you able to use "fuel stabilizer"? I mean, that is what I use for my personal power tools (lawn mower, weed wacker, and such). Adding this allows the fuel to sit for longer periods of time...and I only use certain tools certain times of the year and do not run them during the off season. Another solution may be the emergence of battery powered small caliber hand tools/saws. I recently did a helluva lot of work on my house and we used a number of saws, a portion of which ran on 18 volt batteries. These batteries can be left in the charger until needed and the charge lasts longer than fuel that gets old...

Thank you, didn't mean to be harsh, but I thought it was a good thing.

You know what, I don't ask for a whole lot on this site, I contribute both with posting and money, regularly. I also try to interest people from around the area in the EmtB family, as well as the other department websites I visit. I am confused as to why this should not be made a sticky, this is a tool, other sticky's include the WC Plate assignments, another thing anyone with a browser can do themselves, or the radio frequencies list, which can be accessed similarly using any of a number of websites. I was just asking for 1 stop shopping. If I am looking at an IA and want to see what is going on, clicking on a link would just make it more simple, as I said earlier, sometimes we can't set our favorites due to other types of issues not worth getting into on here. But let us continue to debate issues such as membership status...sorry, but I am getting tired of the red tape myself...

CAD's can work in SST, hopefully you are speaking about system status, as long as their are stations at each post that can be recognized and have an area assigned to each and every location. Hence, here in Yonkers we have a number of posts for EMS units, the CAD that Empress uses does not recognize the closest unit, however the dispatcher has to do so on their own. In order to cover that via CAD, they would have to add a number of response areas, such as Post 2, response area A, leading to 2A. This would encompass a number of streets in that area. So if their were no unit on Post 2, the next available unit may be that on Post 1 or at Post 7, using the response area programming. Every system is flawed, there will be no perfect, at least that I can see. When using CAD as the only basis there will be discrepancies and when using the dispatcher only there will be things missed at times. A combination of both is always important. Hope that helps a little...

WAS, sounds like you just have to add Posts...that act as Stations. When you move a unit from 1 station to the other, you technically put them in a bay (on the computer) and this adjusts the response areas...even if bays are normally empty. As an example if we have a working fire on the West side of Yonkers and move a unit from 1 station to the other, we literally move the units location on the computer screen, if they go from Station 13 to Station 1, they go from Engine Co. 13 to Engine Co. 1 however are still called Engine 313. This adjusts the response areas appropriately. Sounds like having a few phantom stations would solve your problem, only filling them when units are adjusted from the norm. I do not know what CAD system you have, but good luck...MFY

On the verge of 1 billion emtb points! Wish I could do this with the green stuff!!!!

That is different, our screen is the job and it always stays the same way unless closer units respond, they are added on to the end, but they aren't included in the "rattle off"...they already called responding.
