  1. I have to agree, in Yonkers, this is the case. All of the Ladder companies, with the exclusion of L71, carry extrication equipment and are 1st due for extrication on all public roadways. The Rescue or Squad company are added to highway assignments or are special called as needed to roadways. I have seen some very safe scenes in Westchester, and some very unsafe. Each department has to recognize the need for scene safety and address within their own confinements. If the ladder cannot be used at the scene, then maybe it is best to leave it behind and teach proper positioning of the responding apparatus that are already being sent. An engine may be used to block traffic as well as provide suppression all by placing it correctly, no? As for the motorcycles, it appears they are positioned appropriately. The lane is shut off by the engine in the rear. The motorcycle signifies that this is still our scene and this lane is not open to traffic. I am sure that the lights are sufficient as people are traveling slowly due to the "bottleneck" created by the fire engine placement at the rear. In other words, the motorcycle is a heavy duty traffic cone...lol Safety vests are great. In fact the YPD Traffic division recently issued the bright green knee length rain jackets to increase visibility and safety. All units/departments should be doing proactive things such as this. Another great example are the sheppards seen on the rear of recently delivered fire apparatus. Stay safe, it should be everyone's #1 priority!
  2. Actually, I missed it, but my father and my brother in law both ran into it on TV. Other than not being able to handle the gruesomeness at times, they liked it. And then they had questions for the ex EMT of the family and my wife the ER Nurse...lol
  3. It is the newest FAD...all the gang members are carrying them...
  4. Those were the days, huh Rob? I miss the old ambulances, such as the Rescue's of Mohegan, and the Yorktown one's with the 4 strobes around the roof, or especially the old Peekskill ambulances, 7501 (the van), 7502/7503 (the gmc boxes with the little window inside), and 7504 (the new one...well it was new to us for like 15 years...lol-an original braun slant side bus with ford van front end...), and of course all the people...It was definitely different then!
  5. Thank God we all did our jobs, Dan...YPD got sued for this job, evidentially the deceased originally responded to a pct to report an incident, was told to go home and wait and this incident unfolded. M32 got there first, even before the Police and the woman was still on the phone with 911...most likely had called a 2nd time.
  6. On another note, the WCPD Marine Units were actually in service, on the water, and operating. Possibly could have handled the situation before a non-dedicated marine unit could assemble, and get their boat in the water. There is a difference between on the air and available if called in.
  7. If you saw it going through Ossining, they were probably on their way to or from training at Camp Smith. They do an awful lot of training there throughout the year. This truck has been around for a while. Was used at a hostage situation in Mt. Vernon that I had the pleasure of participating in a few years ago. As well, this vehicle is not dedicated for "photo shoots", it is possibly at a drill or a real incident. P.O.T. may well stand for photo observation truck, but it is used not to film movies, but to see things not visible to the naked eye......
  8. Been there, done that...years ago in Yonkers...on Depew Av off of Young Av off of Fort Hill Rd. Clunie Bernard killed her neighbor, William Taino...interesting case to say the least.
  9. Actually, we have our own waste water treatment plant in Buchanan, and our garbage is brought directly to RESCO on John Walsh Blvd in Peekskill for further disposal. We buy our water from the Montrose Water Improvement district which directs it to our own filtration and dispersement station. Have our own police department. Have own highway and sanitation.
  10. What gave it away, the Euro-style truck or the nozzle?
  11. Where I live, I got involved...I went to the Village Budget Meeting, went to the Board Meetings, tried to see what was over spent on...However, my village taxes aren't the problem. I pay about $450 dollars a year to the village...I live in Buchanan and have a very modern house, probably pay the highest assessment value right now cause we just re-did the entire place. My COUNTY tax and Town of Cortlandt tax are the problem. And then there is the school tax...ah why am I complaining, I probly pay the lowest taxes in the county of Westchester by far...maybe $5k-$6k for all 4...lol But I don't know what I get from the Town, other than Cortlandt VAC and the Hen Hud Free Library. As for the County, I don't actually utilize any of their services where I live...Other than the gas for the chopper...lol!
  12. Rating feature...of the site...you can rate almost any post. As well I believe NYPD's Aviation numbers are the last 2 digits of their call sign on the side of the craft...
  13. I bet it was her beamer too....Should have left her up there...she was sure at peace...LOL!
  14. I wouldn't have guessed that they were on a roadway from the 1st couple of pics, but now I see. It looked like the end of a townhouse block with the handicapped space and all originally. Still, this is what happens when we give driver's licenses to everyone...lol. Thankful that my house is on a tertiary street and has a 5 foot high wall street side. It is, say, woman/old-driver proof...
  15. Joba Chamberlain will be stretched into the Starting rotation. Official news released at the end of the Yankee win tonight at the Stadium. And A Rod hit 2 homers but only one counts.
  16. As I was meandering to work today via the SMRP as usual...I noticed that there are a few new vehicles out there. For one, I noticed a State Police Tahoe, newer version with an LED low pro light bar. Next, a West. Cnty. DPS Police Car with the LED low pro light bar. Then in the lot of WCPD in Hawthorne there is a Ford F series truck with custom body poss by Braun or Reading (unknown) which is unmarked as of yet, but looks sharp and has a gray scale LED light bar. And last, but not least I saw 3 new HELP Trucks; 25, 52, and 54. The new help trucks have a positionable take down light mounted in the middle of the roof ifo the light bar. The light bar is very cheap looking, but seems to get the job done. As well, the trucks now have a much larger, scoreboard like, arrow panel the is LED and raises up, this should surely get the job done. The paint job is much the same...however the sheppards only go one way on the rear of the truck, considering that they are always doing something on the side of the road or even in traffic at times, maybe the state and the contractors should change the back end to be more safety oriented. Like safety green and blue to really get driver's attention! If I can manage to get some photos I sure will and will post em...however, there are more photo oriented buffs on here that could take care of this much sooner!
  17. Just a guess: Jeep rear ended Honda (car?), female driver...need I say more...had foot over gas and jammed on it, female driver jumped curb while slamming on gas trying to stop, female driver decided to visit neighbor. Bill do you have a pano so we can see the entire scene to confirm my guess???? BTW is this an elder care area?
  18. Oh, that is Woodbury, CT...boy, I was thinking like Monroe...lol der!
  19. Yes, I see it all the time now...maybe someone can drive it over so I can shoot it...ah photograph it...lol
  20. You can be suspended for speaking? Wow, I missed that one...
  21. Ah, R45....I remember the days of FAC....38a1 25 with the heavy rescue...sorry Pelham, the R designation is a joke...
  22. I don't think it is a joke either, maybe a bit more serious and to do with age and though process. However, congratulations are in order as long as it seems that no one attempted to ever over throw him, he must have been fair to say the least.
  23. I got the official tour from Chief Fitz the other day, the pics don't do it justice. Would love to take this thing on vacation!!! Very nice set up inside and out, now just have to use it a couple times a year...hint-hint! Can't wait to check out the live video uplink from aviation one day!
  24. So my whole post was wrong because New Hampshire is the only state that apparently has no seat belt law? Click it or Ticket is a federal/national campaign. Just cause NH is so special doesn't change this. Maybe with all the traffic there, it isn't as unsafe as it is here...unless you run into a random cow...NH also doesn't have mandatory car insurance right? So when some dumba$$ from NH crashes into me, I am screwed. There are reasons for safety measures and for other things and that is because the American Public ain't so bright. Riding a motorcycle without a helmet is plain stupid and if I offend anyone, that is too bad. I don't like everything, but almost always am able to see a reason for why they come up with the rules and regulations...oh yeah NH live free or die...that is why they don't have safety laws.
  25. That is definitely interesting...to say the least.
