  1. I would hope White Plains did...cause that is the only Hydrogen Fueling station that I know of in Westchester, unless there are Con Ed locations around with em???? And I bet Yonkers does, but to confirm, I will check.

  3. Pics to follow, my dad was watching the move and called me laughing hysterically! As well, the incident alert should read: "Peekskill-Flagrant Waste of Taxpayer Dollars goes further South!-8/21/08"

Victim stable and transported by Yonkers EMS to Jacobi.
  5. Great story, glad he is alright! Another not so common event! Joe, as for the silver box, that may have had something to do with onboard MDT power supply if those cars have MDT's. I know that in the past they have had to unplug ones all over to reset the system during maintenance and such.
  6. Date: 8/19/08 Time: 1800ish Location: Warburton Ave at Odell Ave Frequency: YPD 1 and YPD 2, County Hotline (MTA, WCPD, Dobbs, Hastings) Units Operating: YPD 4pct, ESU, DD, Crime Scene, Marine Unit, OJ as listed above Description Of Incident: Larceny in progress, foot pursuit, and then... Writer: O-Wind (O/S...well sort of, O/A) Numerous larcenies from auto in area started this. 911 call about 1 in progress at 35 O'Dell Ave. Another victim flags down first arriving R/C and points out suspect running hiding something (Verizon laptop!). Foot Pursuit ensued, suspect fled due west down towards the Greystone RR Station, crosses the tracks and plays chicken for a while. Hotline requesting assistance and notifications to Hudson Line trains about condition. Suspect then makes a break for NJ by diving into the Hudson River. Now a first...well at least for me...swim pursuit ensues. Marine 1 after direction from many land loving officers finally captured "the only person in the pool". Yes, that is a quote...Suspect arrested and charged. Evidence recovered!

  8. As usual, scary, but Chris and I were on the same page when I read this. Roof, I mentioned the crane boom as an object being able to pull up the victim in a 4:1 mechanical by sticking out over the below grade scene and hoisting the victim up using the winch part of the crane apparatus. This could also be done with a Helo, or a TL if so equipped. This hole may have been way to large for a simple tri-pod winch setup, no? It was an idea, and maybe the idea behind specing such a device. Not only could it help in confined space (vertical) but in wide open below grade scenarios, i.e. over a cliff (Yonkers?). However, they have removed victims in a Stokes device from below and above grade situations in many areas using a TL and securing the basket. And the TL is hydraulic, no???? Sometimes there is no other way with time being a factor. Unfortunately I am unfamiliar with a "munter hitch" so I am going off to do some research.
  9. No, but don't think you are getting one like Hughsonville! Can't you guys consolidate into a Rescue Engine and get rid of the Sutphen and Bread Van all at once...in fact put the cascade on that truck too. And make it 10 passenger. Ah, just buy Montrose's Condo and that should cover it.
  10. Not full time, not part time...but paid by the day, hence occasional employee. No benefits, but usually a little better pay as a result. Usually get called last minute in hopes of being available...lol
  11. That Video was absolutely horrible. I guess they forget that the Peekskill Fire Department pretty much saved the Theatre a few years ago! I didn't, cause I was there as EMS. And as if Peekskill is that busy that firetrucks would be driving down a side street every single call. Obviously their gripe is political alone!!!!! Too bad, this is what stops progress all over the place and then these people complain when the others retaliate against something they want in the future! Building a new firehouse, an idea that makes sense and has become necessary, is not a statue dedicated to one politician, but to a community that is using their heads!!!
  12. SPOILED AGAIN And as always, Bill, GREAT PHOTOS!!! Forgot that the first time through!
  13. What do per diem dispatchers make and what are the quallies?
  14. Is it true that they can't have a Spaghetti Diner Fundraiser cause they are afraid of ruining the trucks????
  15. Our Country has its troubles, but where would you rather live???? President's can only get done what Congress will allow them. The problem is, every elected official has THEIR OWN agenda and fight against each other constantly. Of course this is much better than Communism or a dictatorship, but the same problems that we think should be fixed were someone else's solution to another problem. I don't foresee any of us living in shacks with tin roofs anytime soon, and this too will pass!
  16. Congrats Tom...and thanks...now the folks at work can leave me alone...
  17. Oh, those are handlights, I am going to patent the light up traffic cone using LED's...SWS can you produce them???? Seems like this may be a good idea...just point the white light away from the helo so the pilot doesn't get blinded!!!! 1: Definitely increases safety...I'll say that the tail rotors always made me a bit nervous when moving victims to the helo, even though you were taught to stay away, forbid the helo moving for some unknown reason and cutting down a crew...just a bad dream of course!!!! Also, do they now kill the engines routinely, or were they also on scene for a period of time and needed to do this? 2: Well, for this, how long a ride is it to St. Francis from this location? I am not as familiar with this area as Westchester although I travel this section of Dutchess regularly. In fact, I don't even know where St. Francis is, but I think it is in Poughkeepsie... If the drive time is equivalent to the flight time and the level of care is required of Trauma 1, then I see no problem with how it went. In Westchester, the Medical Center is no more than 20 minutes from anywhere except maybe 2-3 places! So, waiting in Westchester is just plain ridiculous if it means it will take longer for them to fly out and back in more time than just driving! 3: Pre-designating LZ's is great, but we normally use Helo's during emergencies so that may not always work. It is good to have a package that includes locations that could be used day/night, their coordinates (always a big help), and the frequencies to be used during operations. Telling someone to use Fireground 2 is not acceptable in my opinion because these helo crews serve too many locales and everyone has their own FG2. Each and every time they should be simply given the frequency code...i.e 453.6625 and any encoder that is assigned so there is no confusion!!!! End transmission----
  18. Very nice. Also appears functional which is important. Also love the chevrons! Kudos to Westchester EMS and SWS.
  19. True, who cares about the lights....but the answer most likely resembles that of 585's about E119. LED's don't have that bounce effect off of wires, signs, windows that rotators and strobes do. So it is probably to provide proper warning to all as lights are supposed to. Nice looking, and Mike, Buchanan cannot afford a Seagrave...next time we are buying you guys a horse and carriage!!!!
  20. I only work here... Street Crime is still a specialized unit such as ESU, Traffic, and DD. They work out of their own office and are not a part of any pct. Precinct level Anti Crime are officers detailed to that division of the pct. These officers normal spots are then filled as needed. Both units conduct similar investigations, however the Street Crime Unit is assigned missions so to say. I believe they are focusing on firearms at this time. Anti Crime is the new name for our "Task Force" or as some may recall..."air force 1" as it may have been referred to once or twice accidentally (or on purpose)! Each Pct has a group of officers assigned to plain clothes anti crime. Where as, the Task Force was predominantly assigned to the 3rd and 4th pcts...and seemed to always be in the 3rd... I have not seen any directives indicating that Street Crime was going to be broken up and re-assigned, but I wouldn't put anything passed the administration. And I will leave it at that....and for those who listen/scan pay attention to the new stuff the radio room is doing on the air..................
  21. will set off trailers and klaxtons as well
  22. Promotional Exam: Question: Is this used to activate a list of potential candidates to become officers (i.e. Lt, Cpt, Chief)? Or Is this used to move from EMS to FF?
  23. I just used by TIC and still can't understand the "99" comment. Another reason to use plain english in all communications!!!!!! As for the TIC usage, it is another tool in the box and it is only as good as it's user! Some people train constantly with theirs, even during incidents (Chris192). On a number of occasions I have heard him request info on what he is looking at so that he can better himself. Instead of just putting it off cause it isn't what is being sought, even if it is the urine from a YPD k9! LOL
  24. Okay, there has been some pretty heavy discussion about the photo and all that comes along with it. Now, what I see from an outsider's perspective is that the "trainees" are dressed properly for the training because if it were an actual call, that is what they would be wearing. So, the word "buff" can be dismissed. As for the "trainer", at least some eye protection, other than that there is nothing wrong with anything else!
