i bet if it was someone from your family in that car that they drove past to go to the fire you would be tooting a different horn
-
but what if your on a rescue or rescue engine with extrication equipment? do still continue on? If i was riding OIC and we rolled up on a pin job, we are stopping
-
RIP brother sometimes i wonder why I drive the apparatus... so much responsibility...so much can go wrong

very interesting topic. I dont really believe that individual people could sue property owners but maybe the municipalities they work for to help cover medical cost, death benefits etc could work? save taxpayers money

In my town we have 3 seperate fire dept's. for reported structure fires all 3 w/ 1 being RIT are automatically dispatched, extrication automatically get 2 depts off the bat. And we also have an established M/A protocal for target hazards, day time calls etc. It works great

I was going to say the same thing. Most FF's are atleast certified first responder, I do believe we have a duty to act, its not like your in your car with nothing that says you are a emergency trained responder. If I was riding officer on the rig and we rolled up on a mva with extrication we would be staying there. It may not be right, it may not be wrong but it could save your dept from legal problem down the road

I have the same one came with the light.. its very wide too, works great

Just wondering how your FD's recruit new members... Do you require new members to live in the same town? same district? work in town? do you take members from anywhere? and do you guys have a points system or some other standerd that active members need maintain a certain amount of activity

i also agree with full PPE, i actually have a small hole (smaller then a dime) in the side my hood. I am protected but theres a little spot where i can feel the heat. But with the advances in the fire service today most FF's can tell when its time to go or you your advancing to far in ( IE your TIC craps out or whites out (happened to me once) thats usually a sign its too hot. Use your gut instinct, if you feel that something is not right your usually right. Also take a normal sized classic ranch house. If after 5 minutes or so and you still have not been able to locate the seat of the fire thats anothetr sign to back out and try something else.

Agreed.... if theres more then one way to the basement you best bet is to send a line on the alternate way to fight the fire and have a team holding the stairs from the top with a line., ventilation is key, if theres windows, basement fires without windows aka cellars, well thats a whole diff ball game. The windows should be vented to release all the super heated gases in there, its no fun melting your knee pads and helmet, trying to get to the seat of the fire ( I was in a basement fire 3 or 4 years ago and had the TIC crap out on me, its rated to roughly 1600 degrees, RIT! a must, with every line going in there should be a backup one of equal size or larger, lines to the upper floors are must, if ya have a balloon from and and you pull up with a good working basement fire, chances are you will be seeing fire showing from the top floor and attic in no time.
