In quarters does help. FDNY buses are stationed outdoors. They are running, literally 24 hrs a day. That's gotta take a toll.

This is the same Lake George that invites fire trucks from all over the state of NY to flock to their town for a parade?

That truck is regularly parked on the NB side of the Grand Concourse in the Bronx in the 160's. Did some checking a while ago and it seemed to be affiliated with Hatzola.

As I understood it, it was to give the rig the ability to carry more equipment. The EMTs and Medics could use the rear seats to store their turnout gear and personal stuff, ALS rigs were going to get a refrigerator to allow them to carry cool saline to administer therapeutic hypothermic treatments, and it was to allow for the transport of additional family members/ride alongs in a safer way then having them ride in the back of the rig.

As mentioned above, it is a New York City OCME (Medical Examiner) Special Operations scene response unit. Carries various disaster morgue supplies and equipment.

Could be from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner too. They have some pretty big vehicles that are not marked very prominently.

I have been in contact with a gentlemen from bumbleance who informed me there will be one in NYC within the next few months! They are trying to make a push into the US and are starting with New York. I will provide more information as it becomes available.

Port Chester Seagrave tiller. This rig must have seen a lot of fire duty in its time. It just went out of service a few years back correct? Gotta love the open tiller cab and to think the tillerman was still tooling around the village in an open tiller cab in the 2000's Cool. Photo by Mike Martinelli

Next time Pleasantville "patrols" and some more Macks.

Came across this in Irish news. A private company has built an ambulance designed to distract children from their injuries or medical condition and provide a calming effect while en-route to the hospital. Based off customer portrayals it seems to be more of an ambulette service then a priority EMS unit. It helps transport those from far out counties into the medical establishments of Dublin for long term treatments for diseases and conditions.
An interesting concept and a great way to assist families with special needs.

So what would the answer to this question be:
In an incident in which ICS was formally established. Would the EMS command or medical section chief be
    1. An Empress EMS supervisor
    2. A Yonkers FD supervisor
    3. A Yonkers PD ESU supervisor
  16. pcfpr1 liked a post in a topic by gpeifer in Yonkers FD New EMS Car 45
No. Engines are the primary EMS response to EMS runs. This vehicle is assigned to the EMS Officer. It replaces an 11 year old Ford Expedition. The EMS Officer responds to major and unusual incidents or if special called by a Batallion Chief.

Not even on the radar. Our mission is provide first response EMS and support the transporting agency (Empress) any way we can.

We have an MCI trailer, a rehab trailer, a shelter trailer, and others. This vehicle, along with other Field support units, is available to tow these.

Very Nice looking truck. Looks very similar to the Boss Trucks on My job in the city....I normally wouldn't chime in here but I must say, (with all due respect to the EMTs and Paramedics at Empress, some of whom I've had to pleasure of working with), Yonkers Fire should take over EMS. Both because of citizen safety and Firefighter safety. Speaking of the budget, it would be beneficial for the City of Yonkers Fire to control EMS because then the City would recieve the money from EMS runs. Also, incident command wise and for possible expansion of the Department's Capabilities, it would make sense. Most Career Departments around the country are Fire Based EMS systems. Also for those who believe The PD side should control EMS, I call BS because PD is a Patrol agency, FD is a Responder Agency, FD has more capability to handle the Tiered Response. Lastly but not least, to the Senor Brother Firefighters who don't want the Buses in Quarters with them, thats fine, Just because Fire takes over EMS Doesnt mean the buses need to be in quarters with them. There's other reasons, but I think I've done enough ranting here. All I'm saying is Yonkers Fire should take a look at the way the Brothers just south of them operate.....just my 2 cents Thank You.

I am sure the price had something to do with it. These cars are very inexpensive. Sorry dont see them lasting more than 2 months in Yonkers. Try hoping a curb or pulling off the shoulder on the highway. Best of luck very strong looking.

Does anyone have interior layout info/what equipment the unit is carrying stock. How do these handle in bad weather i.e. snow? If it is covering the City of (Hills) Yonkers this might be a fair weather unit.

Just to expand on what MCD87 posted, after 9/11 many lessons were learned. One is that EMS had no equipment capable of properly protecting them for operations in that type of environment. The same applied to much more typical incidents, MVAs, structure fires, construction accidents, etc. As Capt Nechis pointed out NFP requires protection for all hazards we face and for years it just wasn't addressed. We had a jacket and helmet. Hardly the all hazards protection required. As an added bonus the new PPE allows all members to operate in the warm zone of a hazmat incident bringing more hands to provide patient care and allowing us to safely transport critical patients not fully contaminated to medical facilities with decon stations. Maybe the gear is overkill (flash protection without airway protection seems pointless to me) but its what we have. BLS units have no problem securing all of the equipment. ALS now that we're carrying our cold saline coolers have zero free space. My truck is as stripped as possible, but between our fisher price snow shovels and sked removing the scoop is actually dangerous. In the patient compartment it is now impossible to secure all of our bags, and our WMD mark 1 kits are either locked up and stuffed in without our spare drugs or stuffed behind a difficult to remove trauma bag about 6' off the ground. Its nearly impossible for shorter members to get to.
The haztac style extra compartment was considered, but the extra space it offered while substantial would be under utilized. Going with the crew cab gives us more options for patient family transport, a better seat for ride alongs(currently to converse with the crew up front ride alongs end up in a very dangerous position were there a collision), and keeps our gear within reach. Were we to roll up on that chemical or biological incident we can at least mask up before retreating to properly prepare to enter the scene.
As for the safety of storing our gear in the passenger compartment, we are not regularly exposed to the toxins and carcinogens that bunker gear is exposed to. Still not ideal, but its better than what we have now.

I thought the crew cabs were ordered so that crews could recline a bit more when 89?
