  1. Seth I can't speak for everyone, but I'd like to think my sentiments are shared..... You have my support, I will help however I possibly can.... I hope things work out the easy way, but if they do not, like a Pheniox EMTbravo shall rise again! No worries my friend...... if it gets out of hand, call for some Mutual Aid! Rock On!!!!
  2. I tried to post earlier and it got lost in the problems, but I tend to agree with what other forum members are saying. First, I think that Millwood FD deserves a new firehouse, their fire house is close to 75 years old, however I am oppossed to moving commercial areas out of a community. Which leads me to ask, is there still a working business on the property? This might sway my feelings.... but I thik that siezing land is not the best way to go about this..... Additionally I agree that the last time I looked, there seemed to be a great deal of vacant land in and around Millwood. I am all for supporting of nw facilities for companies that need them , and as I stated, I do believe that Millwood needs and deserves a new more modern fire headquarters, I just feel that if this is true (the full story) I think that this is the wrong way to go about it..... tear down the old firehouse and build there maybe..... I would be cautious of the Reporter Distorter though.......
  3. Curious to see what everyone thinks. There has been a lot of discussion in the forums about Tower vs. Ladder. Now I am asking, do you think every department should have an aerial truck of some form?
  4. I added Armonk as Patrol 6 and Dobbs Ferry as Patrol 17.....
  5. Now I am really confused.... I knew that I had seen the GMC Sanford listed as a Patrol somewhere..... in the 75th Anniversary Journal for TFD, it is listed as Patrol 19!!!!!!!!!!!! The 1949 ALF is listed as Engine 88.
  6. What makes this question difficult is that first one needs to know what a patrol is? Is it a Brush Truck, Mini Attack, a Rescue..... or all Three???? Let's try to explain this rationally..... Patrol 7 in Pleasantville was a Hahn Rescue pumper..... Bedford's Patrol was a light duty rescue, Katonah's Patrol became MA15...., Chappaqua had 2 Patrols.... one was a mini attack and one was a rescue pumper, Thornwoods Patrol was a brush truck...... . The List: (Help fill in the Blanks) Company Apparatus Patrol 1: North White Plains 1939 WLF Patrol 2: Eastchester 1976 Brockway Saulsbury H/R Patrol 3: Rye 1950's Dodge, 1960's Maxim F Patrol 4: Port Chester 1970 International, 1950's W.L.F. Patrol 5: Thornwood 1949 ALF 700Srs. Pumper Patrol 6: Armonk 1956 GMC/Oren Patrol 7: Pleasantville 1960 A.L.F. 1981 Hahn, 1930's Maxim Patrol 8: Croton Falls Patrol 9: Bedford 1975 GMC Oren, 1991 Ford Gowans (both Light duty rescues) Patrol 10: ???? Patrol 11: Banksville Patrol 12: Valhalla 1930's Maxim, 1960 Maxim F Patrol 13: Chappaqua 1930's Mack, 1960's ALF, 1983 Mack MC Patrol 14: Hawthorne Patrol 15: Katonah 1956 Dodge, 1971 International Gowans Patrol 16: Briarcliff 1941 Mack Patrol 17: Dobbs Ferry Patrol 18: Chappaqua 1950's Studebacker, 1979 Dodge Pierce Can you fill in the blanks? The Westchester County Patrol Co. an interesting mix of Mini Attacks, Rescues, and Brush Trucks #-o
  7. Seeing as how soo many of us are interested in the apparatus... and that are quality photographers on the forum, and sooo many of us represent such a diverse group of fire/ems departments.... what do people think about trying to organize an outing in the spring to get some shots.... get some tips, and have the chance to meet? Ideas?
  8. Round 27 was posted today. Eastchester FD got $48,861 for Fire Ops and FF Safety.... good work guys.
  9. Thank you Remember585! You have made some really great points in your latest submission on this topic. Yes, because a department does not own a ladder truck, does not mean that they can't perform ladder operation at a fire call. Again the issue goes back to training, and what and how much of it you and our department are willing to do...... Doing more with less.... how is that for a modernday FD concept!!! Thank you Remember585!
  10. I think it was......Briarcliff Manor???? 1972 or 1973.....
  11. It looks like an old 700Srs. American Lafrance pumper.... it looks like an early production model..... I'm guessing like a 1947 or 1948.....
  12. Type I is a truck chassis with a box and no walkway Type II is a modified van Type III Is a van style chassis with a box and walkway between the cab an body.
  13. This problem exists in Katonah as well. I live nearby in BH now becuase there is no affordable housing in K-town. Houses cost 500K and up...... apartments..... try 1500 and up per month. We have been luck to recruit many new members who own homes in the town... they will be around for a while to come...... I on the other hand will stay most likely long enough to be President of my department for the next two years.... and then, I'm out. Looking at CT. Dutchess Co. and maybe even down south.... but I can't stay here. It is sad, it makes me angry, but the cost of living, coupled with the slow movement of my town to act on these issues will drive me out..... is there really a solution??? Most of this has to do with supply and demand.... just not enough housing and too many who want it........ just know you are all not alone in your frustration.
  14. I am all for neighbors working together for a common good. I have said this before about my own department, we have BHFD run dual response to our commercial districts and other target areas with their tower ladder TL57, this arraingement has been very effective, and we have done several drills with BHFD in prepairation for these responses to help with truck possitioning, and needs. Additionally we have been known in the north to call mutual aid tankers for non-hydranted areas. we have tanker drills from time to time as well to prepair for tanker shuttle responses. This working together is very vital to our providing adequate protection to the communities we protect.
  15. I like Armonk Fd's fleet of ambulances..... the red and silver stripes look really cool. What about type three ambulances.... they get my vote. P&L Custom Ambulances are very well built and seem to be gaining popularity in the area for their quality vehicles.
  16. Ok.... the answer to the question regarding the Bedford FD mini attack was, a 1965 GMC/American 4WD attack truck. It was sold to the West Haven Fire Department in CT. and today it is in service with Company 5. Check it out..... http://whfd.tsac.snet.net/photos/eng5-1.jpg
  17. Ok, I think.....and this is a stretch that the first official fire chiefs car was like a 1958 or 1959 Rambler that was most likely purchased from the Burbanks who ran the local Rambler dealer in BH... this would make sense because they were members of the department...... if this is wrong then it was a 1984 Ford Crown Victoria sedan..... maybe they bought that from Dick Gidron....
  18. Katonah has a Spreader and a Cutter pre-connected on our on-board unit. We also own a portable unit and a combi-tool along with a ram, so we can if need operate up to four tools at the same time. We own Lukas tools, I think one of the deciding factors for our selection was the weight of the tool.... Lukas tools at the time we purchased ours in 1999 were the very lite, making them very easy to operate..... decreasing user fatigue which can become an issue when you are conserned with time, and also when you are working perhaps with a skeleton crew. If I were a chief today buying a new set of tools, I'd say I'd go with the Lukas again. They have been very reliable, easy to use and maintain.
  19. Other departments in Westchester that operated Crusaders were Harrison FD, 1968 (the first in Westchester) Ardsley (of course) and Mohegan Lake had twins (1971?) Neet trucks too bad they are all out of service..... a truck a bit too far ahead of it's time and too expensive and time consuming to build in the 1970's.
  20. Wow, great story and great photo's of the old Lafrance and also the muster at Kensico.... great story!
  21. I have heard that it went to Monserratt in the Caribeane.
  22. Before Bedford Fire Department's M.A. 7 is a 1985 GMC RSI mini-pumper. What was the truck this unit replaced.... and where did it go after Bedford?
  23. A good stomping question would have been what does Fairchester Stand for...... I think it was because member were from both Fairfield and Westchester Counties....... I'll check back on that for certain......and Seth, I know you are going to stomp me
  24. The Fairchester Hose Haulers were the local SPAAMFAA Chapter. They are the ones who brought us sooo many memorable fire musters at both Kensico and Croton Point.... they are sadly now defunct... I understand their last meetin was during the 90's at some point at the NWP Diner.....wishing they were still around, I miss the way the muster used to be......
  25. It sounds like a move to plain text vs. 10-codes would simplify our lives. However, I wonder if ten codes make life easier.... they do simplify radio transmissions, they help to keep channels free for emergency transmitions, and they standardize transmitions making it easier to understand what units responding/onscene/and returning are trying to communicate. Just playing devils advocate, I see plus' and minus' to both.
