The PFD has been understaffed for years. They work with 2 officers and 10 firemen staffing 3 engines and 1 ladder and 1 tower out for 3 firehouse per shift. They average 5500 runs a year with a good amount of working fires. The engine you see out on Hooker ave is not in service ever. The rigs that do run are pretty beat up. They are past the point of doing more with less and the 7 hires will help but they need more.

There is a very good reason not to go with civilian dispatchers, It is called a union job. We have those up north, unlike your right to work states.

How is this a productive question? We score exams, the higher score gets promoted. We've decided as a society to give some preference to veterans and that preference comes in the form of 5 extra points. So no, a vet who is still behind me with his points is not more deserving. A vet who scored equal to or 4 points less is. Are we now going to debate Vet. Credits?
No, we're not. We're debating the fact that someone (who is a seemingly over qualified veteran) was passed over for what might be nothing more than political retribution. We shouldn't debate this? We shouldn't ask for reasons and clarification? Why should anyone related to the civil service take this lying down. It could be you cheated with no explanation.....or a son or daughter. Why are we not defending this guy......

I am not affiliated with YFD or Empress nor do I live in Yonkers and I am in no way taking sides but I just want to say if and I mean if there is friction between the unions or between members of the unions than wouldn't it be better that the two entities hash this out among themselves rather than doing it on EMTBRAVO? JMHO.
