I wish my company or myself could take credit for that, but it is from a department in Maryland. I stumbled upon that video while digging around YouTube. I don't think the more "senior" members in my department would have allowed something like that to happen in the event that we did get a call.

As much as I would love to see something like this happen, it never will simply because the ACLU would have a field day with this.

If I'm not mistaken, the ladder off of the ex-Ladder 15 was from a former Mount Vernon truck that the boys at the shop put on when the original ladder failed its test.

I know when I was living there Eastchester would be transferred to cover Mt. Vernon stations. Having been gone for almost 4 years, is this still the case? If so could we be seeing Eastchester being dispatched straight to the scene, or in order to prevent an entire area being stripped clean of apparatus/manpower a department slightly further away such as Scarsdale or Hawthorne being sent mutual aid to Mount Vernon?

It is my understanding that you just simply try to contain the fire through the use of paths, trenches, roads, ect. You just contain it in an area and try to prevent it from jumping whatever lack of vegetation you have made and just let it burn its self out. The use of water drops, slurry and only "firefighting" that you do is if it is burning in an area that has not been contained yet or if it had jumped the fire break and spreading.

We hear everyday about XYZ person from XYZ Company/School/State who are taking multi-digit rases while laying off people, cutting budgets, rasing costs and sticking their hand out to the government for a "bailout" simultaniously. It is so refreshing to see somebody having the morals to stand up for what is right. Thank you Eric for doing what is right!

It is a Dodge Ram Van. I find it interesting how they modified it with the roll up door. Is there one on the otherside? Is that unit a mini pumper of sorts with a small tank/pump inside or is it more of a utility?

Both of the agencies I work for in Central PA run Hortons. One of the agencies runs Hortons built on Ford Chassis, and the only problems that we have encountered have been Ford issues. The other runs a single Horton built on a Chevy commerical chassis and we have had zero problems with it what so ever. The powers that be at that agency are looking at advancing the replacement for the other two ambulances (both Ford/Wheeled Coaches) due to increasing reliability issues.

PA Task Force 1 has been deployed along with what seems like a majority of medics from the Harrisburg Area. Lots of overtime and mutual aid going on right now. Best of luck and wishes of safety to all of the residents and everybody on all the task forces being deployed.

Thank God NY is going the smart route and is taking another look at the radios. The county where I work in South Central PA switched to the Open Sky 800mHz and they have been nothing but a let down to say the least. The go live date for Fire and EMS was delayed approximately 2 years while M/A Com and the state worked out issues. That didn't stop the powers that be from letting the Police Departments from being dispatched on them. Within 1 week of the Police go live date, at least one police department advised the 9-1-1 center that they would not be using the system and took the new radios out of the vehicles. Even to this day there are still multiple issues with the radios. I'm trying to find a link for the story, but 2 weeks ago a police officer was shot at and the 9-1-1 center did not recieve the officer's call for help. Firefighter mayday's have not been heard on the first attempt at least once. The county is calling these issues "growing pains". First Responders bought this for about the first year, but we are now 2 years into the system for Fire/EMS and 3 years into it for police. Nobody believes what the county says about them anymore. The radios and the system, IMO, is nothing but junk, but the head of the program for the county isn't willing to admit that they made a mistake and go back to the old system which worked. The Open Sky network is great for data transfer, for which it was originally created. It is by no means an ideal network for 9-1-1 communications. What does it say about the system when the PA State Police reject the system all together and stick with their old Motorola network? NYS is much better off and a much safer place for first responders to work in without the Open Sky network.

According to AIP's website, they are also an investor for Collins Industries, Parent Company of Wheeled Coach. I don't see any ambulances in E-One's current product lineup. I can't help but wonder if AIP is going to some how try to merge the two product lines?

ICE is something that I have never had the need to use, and it has become (to me at least), something that I have forgotten about since people first started talking about it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has forgotten about it, but it's good to be reminded and it's sure something that would be a very valuble tool and/or resource to have if the need arises.

We carry a full set of tools for entry and extrication (including cribbing) on both of our rigs. All of the EMTs employed with my company are all at the minimum Firefighter I/EMT and we all have PA DOH Vehicle Rescue Technician certifications for any time we have to force a door to gain entry into a structure or pop a door to gain access to a car (prior to the Heavy Rescue's arrival). As part of our SOG we also have PD respond on all calls in case if we do have to force a door, just so that we have an additional witness as to our actions. Having all of the tools along with PD assistance has proven to be quite valuable on many occasions.

The way it was explained to me was that whatever the fuctionality of the boom is would be the dominant factor as to what it would be designated as. For example, something like a Snorkel or an Aerialscope would be classified as a Tower Ladder because the boom is pretty much there to support the tower at the end of it. Something more like a regular Pierce or Sutphen would be a Ladder Tower because of the fuctional ladder on it. I agree 100%. If we're going to be required to be NIMS compliant in order to recieve such things as grants, every county in every state should get their act in gear and instead of talking about being NIMS compliant, should actually take a step towards being NIMS compliant

As both a firefighter and a Harrisburg local, I can say that expo week is perhaps the most exciting time of the year for us. Due to the size of the the Harrisburg Farm Show Complex (where expo is held at) there are many of us that will go for all three days. Many new rigs out here are KME sold through the Harrisburg KME dealer (Fire and Rescue Products aka FRP). FRP is where pretty much all of the manufacturers send their rigs to get washed prior to staging them on the floor (the dealership is not even two miles away, making it pretty convenient for people to get to). Also, many people out here are able to get all weekend passes through FRP. If you do come out here for the show, try to stay for at least two days so you get to see everything and are not rushed through it. If you are coming out here to buy gear/tools/decals ect I would recommend staying though Sunday when a lot of the dealers slash prices just so they don't have to pack up everything. If anybody is coming out here and want to know good places to eat, nice firehouses to visit or anything else just shoot me a message and I'll be happy to help you out in anyway possible.

I flew airtran from Philly into Fort Lauderdale in December and it was a nightmare. They booked the flight for a 737 and wound up using the smaller 717, so about 1/3 of the people on the flight (including myself) got bumped because of their mistake. I didn't get to Florida until about 26 hours after I was supposed to. The flight back wasn't that much better, with flight attendants who were less than personable and satellite radios that didn't work. I'd say without a doubt to go with Jet Blue
