Yes this ladder did alot of work during its day. I can only say this from what others have told me,since I am not that old haha.I got to see this piece at the Mount Kisco parade and she is on full working order It was replaced by a 2003 100 foot Seagrave rear mount. The current owner totally fixed the malfunctioning aerial device and she looks great. It is great to see that this New Canaan antique is being maintained so well!

Yes, I completed this course last year down here in New Canaan. We did it at the Stamford rail yard, it was one of the best drills of the year. They even let us take a look at the 10,000 gallon rail tanker. That is available for response, if requested. I take metro-north everyday and I can say that it is a safe ride!

That large dog looks to be a gorgeous Irish Wolf Hound. Yes it is a dog!

Hello my fellow glass wearing brothers....When I first started in the fire service my first instructor told me that you can't see in a fire so you dont need them!...I carry a hard case in my gear where I stow my glasses if needed....Let me tell you that I have lost a pair or two but its all worth it in the end..

New Canaan also sent Engine 1 along with Tanker 8. Seems to me from listening to radio traffic that they were beginning to lose their draft so they called for alot of tankers.

I saw this quint pulling out the of woodside house today responding to a call...That is one awsome rig...I love the chevron and light combination on the rear of the rig...Stamford did a great job with it!

This fire is a constant reminder on how important mutual aide agreements are...From the pictures it looks like it was a challenging access to the scene and all departments involved did a great job..

Seth, I am glad that you brought up this topic....Last week wilton had a fire that started in the garage and started extending into the house. since wilton is only staffed with six guys, they always request alot of mutual aide. My chief got on scene and relized that they scene was understaffed. 1 wilton engine, 1 wilton tanker, 1 new canaan engine, 1 new canaan tanker. My chief requested more manpower to the scene from a mutual aide department. My assistant chief and myself took the utility into wilton and began firefighting operations. I guess my point is that an incident commander needs to evaluate the scene, if manpower is needed that call for it. Requesting additional engines and apparatus is often not needed and really backs up the scene. This wilton fire being in a non-hydranted district, it was essential in getting the scene secure and safe. We had to lay alot of LDH to connect to a distant hydrant. I commend the IC of this incident in evaluating the incident and making the appropriate calls. Manpower does not always mean toning out for a second alarm...etc....sometimes it doesnt hurt though. The main problem that we run into is that some departments do not have suburbans etc...I am just wondering if NFPA requires these vehicles? This is a perfect example in which a vehicle of this nature is very needed. Another example is multi car accidents...Crowding scenes is dangerous and needs to be taken into account when requesting additional manpower. This is just my two cents.....

RIP my brother god bless his family and his department

out here at school I find alot of mercedes and BMW's they always tend to have alot of security and saftey features that get in the way during extrications. About 2 months ago we had to roll the dash on a Mercedes C class and it was not easy...I think that it had something to do with the firewall that mercedes has....but those cars are safe...

I can not doubt the Darien Fire Departments apparatus and there function. But what I can say is that there personel are excellent firefighters and good guys. I am just woundering, if someone could anwser some questions that I have. 1. With an all volunteer deparment, is the house still covered 24/7? 2. What is the response times for 2nd due apparatus(mainly their recent barn fire)? 3. How many active members? I am just woundering how that all volunteer department operates? Thanks STAY SAFE........TRAIN HARD!!

I love this huge rescue.....I found by looking at the pictures that the this rescue has so many resources and has some amazing features...I love all the connects to hurst equipment that they have and I also like the dive team set up....the question I have is how many guys are rolling out on calls in that "BEAST"?

I would love to have those numbers to be down to a minimum. As 1st responders we need to keep in mind that this job is dangerous and no matter what precautions we take accidents are bound to happen. We just need to keep our training current and our minds sharp. God Bless all that have lost someone in the LOD. Stay Safe!!
