I dont know, Im not too experienced, but replacing an engine with a quint is fundamentally flawed. Yes you can pump with it and use it as an attack engine, and yes you can use it as a ladder. But you have to choose between one or the other. First issue I could see is manpower, it takes a lot of people to run it as both, you need a full crew to carry out ladder ops, or a full crew to carry out an interior attack (full crew being, 3-4 people). The second thing I see, is positioning. To properly position as an engine you need to pull past, and to be a ladder, you need to be in front, you cant really be in two places at once. Granted rig positioning isnt always a standard thing, but just on the theoretical level. I may be wrong about these, and Im sure there are ways around these issues, but still, it doesnt seem right. Either way, good luck with your purchase!

We originally wanted to call it Ladder-39, which is the number of the stick we had 30 years ago. Unfortunately, that number is reserved and its too much of a deal to change the cad system, or at least thats what I was told. Tower 5 originally went out because none of the boom saftey mechanisms worked, you could move the boom with out engaguing high idle, you could move it with out the outriggers down, stuff like that. They tracked it down to the contact rings on the turntable. Unfortunately, it currently seems that the parts will be on back order for some time. But this replacement is great. It needs some tlc but she runs well. The stick also works great, it moves really fast and is very simple to operate. Shes not Tower5, but she'll do for now

Good thing they didnt go with Ferrara, that would have been a world of unnessesary pain.

I think its a good idea to have all FFs be EMTs but not to roll the ems and fire all into one, it would unessesarily complicate things.

Personally I'd go with a nikon, for a 35mm camera, they are great, their lenses are better and they are usually well priced.

I to discoverd chipolte in DC a few years ago as well, when I found it and first ate there I thought, how could it get any better? And then I went to Boulder, CO and I found illegal pete's, its similar to chipolte except cheeper and better. The burritos are even bigger and tastyer than chipolte's. But sadly I am moving back to New York in a short while and will have to go back to eating chipolte.

I have been wondering about this for a while now, when you are on the nozzle and you are leading an attack into a building, how do you make sure the floor in front of you is safe? Especially with new constuction materials that dont hold up at well in fire, like the wooden ibeam, and their high probablitily of collapse when exposed to fire. For instance there is a basement fire and you are getting to the basement, there is a fairly heavy smoke condition when you enter and there is a likelyhood that this house has this type of construction, while staying low, what is the best way to make sure the floor infront of you is stable? Thanks

Benz is absolutely correct, its time to get our priorities strait and do things the right way.

It may be another gimmick to sell more gear, but personally, I like the idea of replaceing gear every ten years. I mean, my gear is older than the oldest engine we have in serivce. It has sun damage and whatnot from being so old, now correct me if I am wrong, but I think that sun damage weakens the integrity of the fabric. I may be relatively new to this, but Im not so sure thats a reason to have gear thats far older than I am. I think when it comes to our safety we deserve to have the latest and greatest, what we do in the first place isnt so safe to begin with, but if there is any advantage, I want to take it. As for the helmet thing, I dont know much about that, but I know that any gear that is not maintained well is not going to last as long as gear that is. Just my views

Not that I have ever had the pleasure of wearing a full length coat or 3/4 boots, I am still relatively new to this, but I like the thought of being fully covered, does it make me a daredevil and get to close? No, if you have a sound mind and make calculated risks, your safety will increase. Plus even with the full bunker gear styles, they are constantly coming out with lighter stronger fabrics and creating gear with a greater ease and range of mobility. Who knows, maybe in the future it will be like wearing a wind breaker, who knows? but until that time . . . .

I know that special high pressure hydrants were used to feed the system or water was drafted out of the river. For the super pumper system, The tender truck hooked the hydrants to the pumper it self and then from there the satallites would hook up to the pumper. Also the tender truck had a high capacity deck gun on it as well. the whole original point of the system was to be able to completely surround a structure with master streams. I think these special hydrants are supposed to be OSS, but I'm not entirely sure.

Id go with JetBlue, even though its out of JFK, its not to bad, I've flown out of there 5 or 6 times and have no serious complaints.

That was a pretty close call on that one. That could have made that scene a whole lot worse.

I agree, I think some of the confustion comes from the information be too cluttered on the page.

I think the concept behind the new page is quite cool, but its a bit to complex for me. This doesnt nessesarliy mean that I want the old page back, I just think that this new page could be done better, with things more easily layed out. Also, I'm not a fan of the new photo system.
