The officer or trooper who took the complaint from the firefighter. I've been through this. I wrote the supporting deposition and the Town PO wrote out the UTT and sent it to the operator of the vehicle. I had to appear in court and testify to the facts of my deposition and that the defendant was in fact the operator of the vehicle. The ticket was upheld and I won the case!! I also disagree with the "town ordinance" as you state- NYS VTL 1102 states "person duly authorized to regulate traffic"- you do not have to be a sworn Fire Police Officer to "regulate" traffic. What do you think career departments do- who don't have Fire Police- generally the Ladder Company does the traffic control- they are "duly authorized" even without a Chief on scene, because it's written in the SOP's that the Ladder Company does traffic control- that also is a CHief's order and has stood up in court!

First off- in Somers, we do not carry a CO detector- we carry 4-Gas Detectors. They are located on all 4 Front line Engines Engines 180, 181, 185, and 188.

SOMERS did it again!!!!!!!!!!! Westchester County's 1st Curtis-Wright Power Hawk Rescue Tool was delivered (played with) and accepted by Chief Byrnes and the Officers of the Somers VFD, last night at Fire Headquarters. After some training sessions with the membership over the next few weeks, the tool "may" temporarily be placed in service on Utility 5. But not for long- it will be going to Res1cuE for mounting in the front bumper of the new Rescue 20, by the end of May.

On Sunday morning, our "PR" pictures were taken, with the current 2 Chiefs and 4 Commissioners, with our 18 Defibrillators. The picture was for "Size- Up" magazine, the periodical of the NYS Assn of Fire Chiefs. The Somers VFD, and Somers Fire District is the 1st Heart-Safe Department in Westchester County and one of the first's in NY. A Heart-Safe Department is an FD that ALL of it's firehouses has PAD's (Public Access Defibrillators) and ALL of it's front-line apparatus is equipped with Defib's. Somers currently has 18 Defibs in Service in the following locations- (4) All firehouses (PAD) (1) Each- C2441, C2442, C2443, C801, 80B1, 80B2, 80B3, 80U4, E180, E181, E183, E186, E188, and L18.

How many departments in Westchester purchased used apparatus, either from within or outside Westchester? Where were they from and when did they serve (or still serving)? Somers- 1943 Ford, purchased from US Army (served 1946-1967)1947 WLF Rescue, purchased in 1963 from New Hyde Park, LI (served 1963-2001) 1950 ALF 100' Ladder, purchased in 1975 from Larchmont (served 1976-2001) 1989 Sutphen Tower, purchased in 2001 from Kennsington, MD (still serving)

I have to say- Somers' Houses are not Historic, Pretty, or Huge, but they sure are practical!!!!! Basics- that's all we need to operate!!! =D> =D>

Don't forget Jeep 2 (1944 Willy's) or whatever the "new" Utility number is, when the county took away the Jeep designations.

The oldest Frieghtliner (80B3) was traded in for the new 80B3. As far as the next Frieghtliner (80B1) it's a 1999, and due for replacement in 2007, unkown at this point what will happen with that. However, each Somers Ambulance is equipped as a "Rehab Unit". Each carries a Gatorade Cooler, cups, Gatorade mix, and a 5 gallon water bottle, as well as a case of bottled water. Also, each Somers Engine and Ladder carry a case of bottled water. Our policy is that 2 Ambulances respond to working structure fires, brush fires, and any other extended duration incident, 1 is strictly for Rehab purposes. Also, the new Rescue 20 (Heavy Rescue) (expected delivery in June) will also be equipped for rehab. So it probally won't be kept for those reasons.

I was at the Westchester DES Meeting where it was said that 60-Control was going to get away from 10-codes. Chiefs were also told that the dispatchers at 60 were already told this, and they were not suppose to be repeating field unit's 10-codes or using them themselves anymore :-k Departments around the county who attended this meeting were asked to make changes away from the 10-codes. I have instructed my department to do so. This is to align with NIMS, which we are required to, by Executive Order from the Gov. P.S.- We're in Batt 13 :-P

Jim, The Somers VFD has contributed $300.00 to your team. See LT180 for the check!

I ALWAYS wear a seatbelt. POV, Chief Vehicle, Engine, Ladder, Rescue, Ambulance- whatever! It takes 2 seconds and could be the difference between going home at the end of the tour or ending up 6 feet under. I perfer going home! As far as using the SCBA as a seatbelt is s NO-NO. The securing straps of an SCBA are not rated to be used a passenger seatbelt! As a matter of fact, the new NFPA requirements for the SCBA seat mount requires that the SCBA "fall out" is the harness is not secured. This prevents a rider from using the SCBA as a seat belt and also requires the pack to be strapped in. USE THOSE SEAT BELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember it well, re-located to BHFD for the duration!!!

MDU stands for Mass Decon Unit Squad is a Level "A" response team that consists of piece of apparatus (not designated which type, left up to the individual squads), the SSU (discussed next) and a minimum of 6 trained/qualified Haz-Mat Technicians. Squad Support Unit are the old Paratransit Buses converted into "utilities" for use by the appropriate squads. They are designed to pull the Level "A" trailers (but has enough equipment onboard to handle most responses. The trailers only have to be deployed if needed or requested, based on the incident.

Thank you all- Yes, I've got some kind of mental problem! :headache: My unit identifiers are now as follows: (at least the ones I know about): Somers- Car 2441 Montrose VA- Car 2571 Castle Point VA- Car 91-1 (Dutchess) Of course we operate on our own frequency and use our own identifiers there, so that's FIRE 1. I find it better just to stay off of the radio at this point! The best part is that I might get to interview some of you Turkey's for a job- posting should be happening sometime in April!

As stated earlier, Somers has a new Engine out to bid, all is in and it looks like the winner will be: A KME Predator, all aluminum construction. The body will be similar to the Seagrave's we currently have in service. The cab will have a 6" raised roof, and the seating will differ in the cab (instead of all 4 facing rearward, 2 will face forward). It will have a Waterous 1500 GPM 2 stage pump (as do all Somers apparatus, except the '58 Seagrave) and a 1000 gallon Booster tank. It will have 450' preconnected 1 3/4" hose, 200' of 2" preconnect, 300' of 2 1/2" preconnect, and carry 500' of 3" and 1000' of 5", just like all the other frontline Pumpers. Upon delivery, the rig will be assigned to Granite Springs to replace Engine 186. 186 will become the spare until it's replacement next year, which hopefully will be a 75' Quint, new Ladder 48!
