Attached is the link to USA Jobs for the current opening for Firefighter (EMT/ HazMat Tech/ Driver) if interested. If you are not a currently certified EMT in NY, FFII (or NY equivilent), HazMat Tech, and certified Pump Operator (including EVOC) don't bother submitting. You'll be rejected. Also- Pay Scale is wrong- Position is a GS-7 (not 6) http://jobsearch.usajobs.opm.gov/getjob.as...bf522=0081&vw=d

Interviews were conducted. If you did not get a call, you did not score high enough.

MA-13 was supoosed to have been sold. but the winning bidder never returned any phone calls or mail. It went out to bid again, and should hopefully be sold at this month's District meeting.

As always Jim and Gina- We are here for you, whenever you need us. Have a great 4th!

The rear doors are shot- They were cut up during the acceptance tests on our new PowerHawk tool. Sorry.

I would go with 24 now. Not annotated on the County list is Mt Kisco (22) White Plains (23) They both operate Heavy Rescues And then add Somers back to the list (24).

Somers does a show, but it's for residents only

Had a great time as always! The "Ant Hill Mob" always puts out a great spread.

Exactly the reason I used the "on scene" designator of "water supply" instead of 2441, while operating with 24-4-1 at a structure fire in Mahopac Falls. While operating at an incident, and using NIMS, Chiefs and/or Command Officers should have an assigned fireground designator, instead of using thier car number. Try it, it works!

Same for me- Should have stayed in VA! Well, as the saying goes- hind sight is 20/20!!

The NEW 80B3 has been delivered to Somers. PL Custom delivered the new 80B3 to Fire Headquarters, last evening. She is perrrrrrty! Almost identical to 80B2, with some minor changes. More LED warning lights!!! Should be in service by end of the week, hopefully! 2 RED ambulances in Somers- cool, only 1 white one left to get rid of!!!! =D>

James, NY has been moving to to National Standard certs since 2000, so your stuff from SC is transferable. NY already accepts any NPQS or older NPQB certs as well as IFSAC certs. It appears that you already meet what the Somers FD requires to be an interior firefighter. As far being a driver you need DDC, EVOC, then the specific A/O course A/O-P for Engines and A/O-AD for the Ladder We are currently using Quaker gear made from Advantex, but we are in the process of re-specing and re-bidding, hopefully going back to Globe (Extreme) We currently use Scott, and are upgrading everything to Scott-Fifty with the intergrated PASS, as an interior FF, you will be issued your own mask. Any other questions PM me or e-mail me at somersfdchief@optonline.net

List established. Calls for interviews should be going out shortly. Just finished 6 hours of interviews today for an Asst Chief :caffine:

21Truck- you're right on- Our plan is to store equipment that is not used everyday, such as overstock HazMat stuff, long shoring, confined space rescue equipt, and telescoping jacks. There was never a mention of storing everyday use items such as EMS supplies. It is very safe to walk around up there with "falling off". Most of your questions could be better answered, if you just wait another couple of weeks and see for yourselves!

I'm not sure about the new SPAAMFAA requirements, that Ed states. But for the most part for an auto to be a classic it's 15 years old and an antique it's 25 years old.

We went with the Freightliners as an experiment, because we were having such problems with Brakes and transmissions on the older E-350's. It was only suppose to be 1, but the Fire District did a back-to-back order to save some money. The experiment worked well, maintenance wise, the transmission and brakes for outlasted the older E-350's. Hopefully the newer E-450's will be comparable to the FL's

Let me add my 2 cents here as well- "TruckieBuff" whoever you are- I'm on that committee and we spent over 2 years of research, planning and a hell of alot of time specing that Rescue! For you to make judgement on what I can or can't spec, come check me out- I think I know what I'm talking about! Before you pass judgement on someone, maybe you should find out who the people are first. I know you're making a general statement, but seeing how you're making it in this post, I'm looking at it, that you are speaking of me and my committee. Also, specs are made as the community and FD needs them, something that Somers needs, is not the same that someone else needs. As far as your "Walk-in" that is one hell of a waste for Somers, you obviously have no clue as to how we operate, and what OUR needs are! We have absolutely no need to have a "walk-in" and loose all that space- in case you don't know about the compartment space that's lost with a "walk-in". Anyway- I can take constructive criticism, but how about giving some??

It's official- The VA Hudson Valley FD (Montrose Campus)'s Hazardous Materials Response Unit has been officially renumbered HazMat 3 =D> The "33" came about because originally it was going to be designated an Utility, and was going to be Utility 33. At least we make sense again- HazMat 1 (West DES), HazMat 2(Yonkers Task Force), HazMat 3 (FDVA) Rescuestuff, Inc. has been contacted to do relettering. Chief's- Come check-out HazMat 3 at the June DES meeting!!
-
I've seen it before too. I don't know who owns it, but I believe WCFF is right, it goes to every Army game at West Point.

OK- Here's a basic run-down: We run around the 500-call area. Just as most FD's now, mostly EMS, and Auto Alarms. We man 1 Engine (E-225), 1 Medium Duty Rescue (currently designanted MA-28, will be redesignated Rescue 48 ), 1 Haz-Mat/Decon Unit (was originally Utility 33, now HazMat 33, trying to get it changed to HazMat 3)(Picture is on the DES website), and 1 Ambulance (48B1). Due to JCAHO requirements, the Ambulance cannot leave the campus. The FD responds with the Ambulance along with the Code Team to all EMS calls on campus and we transport to our Bldg 3 (Admissions), if Transport is needed, we call in CCVAC with CRP. If there is a 911 call placed, we are dispatched along with CCVAC and CRP, and respond with MA-28 (R-48 ). Job includes inspecting- Fire Extinguishers, Fire Hydrants, Sprinklers, Buildings, Smoke Barriers, Fire Doors; Fire Alarm system testing, Conducting Fire Drills, Public Fire Education, and Fire Extinguisher Training.
