  1. GFD is not part of the mayors plan in regards to SVFD. Engine 6 from SFRD would still be stationed there and stamford would still have 3 fire dept's.
  2. Very true about people's feelings toward the federal government and what people feel is right. It seems to me this is a pretty clear cut case of violating federal law. It's seems in the maryland case one firefighter brought the case and all the firefighters who "volunteered" got paid for it. Is there one guy in long ridge who maybe didn't plan for his retirement and see this as a way to cash in? Maybe a past disgruntled employee of LRFCO would consider bringing suit. I just wonder how this will all play out when there is a new taxing district and more revenue to pay these guys.
  3. Can someone find the "job posting" for the Directors postion? I know it was posted on a forum just can't seem to find it.
  4. According to wikipedia stamford is 52.1 sq miles
  5. In before Geppetto: http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/Long-Ridge-firefighters-seek-nearly-1M-in-past-944718.php Long Ridge firefighters seek nearly $1M in past wages Jeff MorganteenStaff Writer Published: 07:57 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2011 STAMFORD -- The paid firefighters' union at the Long Ridge Fire Co. is taking legal action against the North Stamford fire department to collect nearly $1 million in unpaid wages, asking a judge to secure department funds in order to pay back raises deferred more than 10 years ago.
  6. Cogs, In my personal opinion unless the 6 fire depts, the paid drivers in Long Ridge and the Union sit down and create a plan that everyone agrees to no plan will be accepeted by all the parties. If everyone agrees to a plan how could the politicians say no? If the goal is to create the best fire service in Stamford shouldn't everyone be involved?
  7. Cogs, I think it is great that you are willing to work out a different plan then the one the mayor is pushing. You seem to be the only one from the volunteer side even advocating this. There are multiple parties that need to be a part of any discussion. The Mayor should not be waiting for us to work together he should be facilitating working together and that is not happening. I wonder how you feel about Long Ridge being the structure for the SVFD when Belltown seems to be the best functioning volunteer dept in Stamford?
  8. Cogs, I don't see the mayors plan as a mandate. The mayors plan suggests a vision for the fire service going forward. The mayor hopes the board of reps will enact the legislation required to implement his plan. There is still limited information from the mayors plan and at this point I can't see how the board of reps can even begin to look at making any changes.
  9. It seems the CT general statues cover this topic already. Sec. 7-329. Termination of district. Whenever the officers of such district vote to terminate its corporate existence and whenever a petition signed by ten per cent of the total number of persons qualified to vote in the meeting of such district or twenty of the voters of such district, whichever is less, applying for a special meeting to vote on the termination of the district is received by the clerk, the clerk shall call a special meeting of the voters residing within such district, the notice of which shall be signed by the officers thereof, by advertising the same in the same manner as is provided in section 7-325. Not later than twenty-four hours before any such meeting, two hundred or more voters or ten per cent of the total number of voters, whichever is less, may petition the clerk of the district, in writing, that a referendum on the question of whether the district should be terminated be held in the manner provided in section 7-327. If, at such meeting, a two-thirds majority of the voters present vote to terminate the corporate existence of the district, or, if a referendum is held, two-thirds of the voters casting votes in such referendum vote to terminate the corporate existence of the district, the officers shall proceed to terminate the affairs of such district. The district shall pay all outstanding indebtedness and turn over the balance of the assets of such district to the town in which the district is located, if the legislative body of the town authorizes such action. No district shall be terminated under this section until all of its outstanding indebtedness is paid unless the legislative body of the town in which the district is located agrees in writing to assume such indebtedness. On completion of the duties of the officers of such district, the clerk shall cause a certificate of the vote of such meeting to be recorded in the land records of the town in which the district is located and the clerk shall notify the Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management.
  10. Not in Stamford. We've got politcians who can hire 51 more firefighters and it won't cost anymore then it alreadys does (yeah right).
  11. The Middletown in the article is in NY, not CT's Middletown.
  12. I had the pleasure of attending the Public safety meeting that discussed this Long Ridge cancellation of mutual aide. The dispatch audio was played on this call including the initial call from the alarm co and the call attempting to cancel the response. I don't recall any information being relayed over the air to Long Ridge stating why the alarm company was requesting to cancel the response. Neither the Firefighter or officer from Long Ridge who were responding asked dispatch for the reason the alarm company was requesting a cancellation. We can debate when to cancel mutual aide all we want but this isn't at the heart of this matter. Chief Bennett of Long Ridge said LRFCO would not cancel mutual aide prior to the arrival of units again and less then two months later they did.
  13. I recall a situation a few years back where an engine caught fire while pumping at a working fire. The operator was wearing full ppe ( His dept required it for pumping) and he did not sustain serious injuries or burns. I want to say it was in either TX or CO but can't seem to find the email from the secret list about this. Anyone else recall this situation? I remember there was photo's of the engine as well.
  14. So Coggs you acknowledge a tax increase and layoffs are a possible outcome of the Mayor's plan yet it's BS for the StamfordFiretruths.com website to talk about them?
  15. Date:7/11/10 Time: approx 10:00 Location: 598 Fairfield Ave Frequency: Units Operating: E3,E2,E5,E1(rit),T3,R1,U4,U6(safety) & M3 Weather Conditions: 82 sunny Description Of Incident: E3 declared a working fire from c side of structure (2 1/2 woodframe) on arrival Reporters: ctff Writer: ctff
  16. Junior of course it's wrong but what should we expect from this Mayor. He did not and does not want an investigation into the fire on deep valley trail in Long Ridge. He knows a solid investigation into that fire will bring up more questions about his plan.
  17. Ever heard the Story of Cain and Abel?
  18. 67 (the TOR truck) cancels Truck 3 from the city. 712 then cancels everyone but the Long Ridge units. Also keep in mind 78 (tanker) from long ridge signs on and the Chief of Long Ridge was in 78.
  19. Alpine if Long Ridge had 3 men per rig do you think we would see better decision making from them?
  20. 71 is an engine from lrfco 712 is the Asst Cheif 715 is the 2nd lt 67 is the truck from turn of river
  21. Rick talk to your reps on the board of reps & the mayors office. Talk to your neighbors explain the situation to them and have them call their reps & the mayors office. Until the people of Stamford start making noise I doubt you'll see this mayor do a thing about it.
  22. http://www.matthewsnyder.org/help.html you can send money to help the father, more info on the link I provided.
  23. Stamford has sent recruits to the state fire academy ( you room there) and they have also given their own recruit school.
  24. http://poststar.com/articles/2009/09/05/ne...b5051293355.txt This is very well known Business in the area and nation.
