  1. unfortunately you're all wrong about CT Pizza. The best Pie in CT is from Letizia's in Norwalk, CT. I don't buy the New Haven or Colony Hype.
  2. Stamford Fire and Rescue ran one as well, not sure of years though.
  3. What about people who do not know they are allergic to something? It does not happen often but it does happen where people have an adverse reaction and did not know they had an issue prior to exposure.
  4. A poor use of resources? I don't see it, care to explain?
  5. Date: 1/21/09 Time: 7:40 Location: 775 Atlantic street Frequency: Units Operating: E2, E1, E3, T2, T3, R1, UNIT 4 Description Of Incident: working fire in a 4 story building Writer: CTFF
  6. I wonder who pays for all these credits? If the government is willing to take in less money it has to be shifting that burden somewhere right?
  7. I'm surprised they caught him
  8. I am a pretty big fan of MMA and without a doubt it is a sport. At the highest levels of the sport the fighters are gifted in multiple disciplines. Most of the fighters are strikers (muy thai, TKD or boxing), have a wrestling background and some from of submission grappling ( Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, judo or sub grappling). The sport is hitting the TV big time. UFC on Spike, WEC on versus, CBS will begin showing EliteXC and there are fights on HDnet as well. It's a great sport and the fights can be some of the best fights I have ever seen and I still love boxing.
  9. In CT refusing to submit to testing is an automatic 6 month suspension of the drivers license.
  10. I just finished reading a book titled Blink by Malcolm Gladwell and he addressed this issue in his book (this book is a great read for anyone emergency services). In one chapter of the book a statement in the book says that Police officers will always want two man patrols yet they are not safer for the officers or the public. It is stated that when two officers have an encounter with a citizen the citizen is more likely to be arrested or charged with assaulting a police officer ( as opposed to one officer encounters). While he does not have any foot notes he credits two studies in his notes section. I was wondering if any of the LEO's have read any studies on the issue of one vs. two person patrols? Or if this issue is discussed in your initial training or with in your own dept?
  11. I wonder how soon this post will be taken down?
  12. Does anyone know at what speed (how fast above the limit you are driving) these cameras take your picture?
  13. If I am not mistaken Phoenix FD has their SCBA's in an outside compartment on the rigs. I think this was done to solve the seat belt issue, it's more comfortable/easier to buckle up with out a pack. This should not be a big issue at all. As long as you can secure your helmet in the rig (to the NFPA standard) you can throw it on as you are leaving the rig.
  14. I'll be blunt I am against having to put your real name in public place on this site ( or any othe site). How will it be checked/ verified? Some people are fine with everyone knowing who they are and some are not. I would be done posting here if that was the case.

  16. I bought my vest from www.simulaids.com I just checked the price and it looks to be about $425 plus shipping for the same vest that CT uses for the Cpat. $450 may sound very exepnsive but I make that working one overtime shift now, plus I sold the vest for $200. get the vest and hit the stairmaster. Work at the same pace as the CPAT keep extending your time and you'll be fine.
  17. Yeah I have a pair and they are the best gloves I have ever used. Whats new with the titans?
  18. I just had this issue and I don't pay for insurance from verizon, it was $50 for a "new phone". The phone may have been a refurb but who cares, why pay for insurance?
  19. Yes go to Verizon. You can bring the phone to them and they will trouble shoot it. When you go back and they tell you your phone is defective they will sell you another phone (same style) for $50 or so. I know cause Ijust had issues with my phone.
  20. yeah I've had issues. Of course I may not have listed my SN in my email, so it may be my fault.
  21. The topic may have shifted yet it is constructive. There have been many incorrect statements made in this topic. By simply remvoing it some people may think these statements are facts. I learned a about the author and the heritage foundation from this topic.
  22. I had to give my career dept a copy of my resignation letter to my vol co. This was not a big deal as I was a vol in a combo dept. The problem with being a paid guy and a vol is when a job related injury occurs. I'm not talking a broken bone but a heart issue or blood pressure ect. The city you work for is going to fight you tooth and nail that your injury it is a result of your volley firefighting, the town you volley for is going to say it is due to you being a paid guy. Guess who gets screwed? If I am not mistaken the purpose of this bill is to allow career firefighters to collectively bargain for contracts in "right-to-work" states.
  23. If you've read Black hawk Down this is the drug that the Somali militias give to their soldiers. Hopefully this is not something that can be grown here.
  24. It's hard to say what topics draw intrest here. A while back I posted a topic on tech rescue attempt in england where a victim died. I asked how people here would handel that situation and nobody responded. But hell if we talk about officer elections, parade results or a new delivery and people are all over it.
  25. I was taught the same method for bail out three years ago, I can't see anything thats faster but i'm sure there are safer options.
