This is totally and utterly disgusting. It looks like they spent lots of money to have a racially neutral test. What does that even mean anyway? Sounds to me like the powers that be were looking for a certain result, and didnt get it so they threw out the results. How difficult is it to give a test and take the top scorers. Isnt that the whole point of giving a test?

I too think that at times there are alot of topics in the list of new topics that are more or less off topic. I personally enjoy the games but can see where it would be frustrating to find new posts about on topic matters. I think sr71 has a great idea. Make a subforum for games, then have the most recent post list not pull from that subforum, if possible.

This isn't necessary. If you feel the need to report the kid, a PM to the admin with the screenname is all that is needed. If Seth feels he should bounce the kid, than he can.

I was jsut thinking about this the other night. I was driving over an overpass where crews were working on an accident on the highway beneath. Cars were getting off the highway both directions and driving straight across right onto the on ramps back onto the highway. Accident seemd to be positioned right between the exit and entrance ramps. Meanwhile on the overpass there were numerous emergency vehicles with their full light packages going including flashing high beams. Now, we have traffic traveling the overpass in two directions, and traffic crossing that lane of teravel in two spots, plus firetrucks and police cars, plus people in the road directing traffic, and you cant see because the headlights are blinding you.

I understand what you are saying, and I agree with you. My take on this is you can have police officers directing traffic on Greenwich Ave, or you can have them patrol greenwich ave. Either way you are still utilizing officers on Greenwich Ave. Keep in mind that there is alot of money on that street, between the banks, jewelry stores, and customers. This is a high value area. What you are proposing is moving resources from one high value area to another. Essentially robbing peter to pay paul.

I know that the powers that be have talked about this and installing traffic lights numerous times. I believe the thinking of keeping the officers was an asthetic one, as well as a human one. Traffic, both vehicle and pedestrian, isn't regular. meaning some times the pedestrian traffic is really heavy, some times it is light. Same thing goes for the vehicle traffic. The officers were able to keep traffic flowing better than a timed or automated light system would. They could, of course be replaced by civilians as you said. Keep in mind that there are stop signs at every intersection, and after hours it is up to people's common sense to keep traffic flowing. My experience is that common sense isnt so common, and pedestrians will walk out in front of moving cars. But this leads to the other benefit of having officers on Greenwich Ave. It is basically, the business district of greenwich. Seeing the officers makes people feel safe. Having worked on the avenue for a number of eyars, i saw, on more than one occasion, the officer directing traffic leave his post to address some problem or another at one of the stores. In fact, I believe that it was the officeer at the Lewis st intersection that caused a recent robber of a jewelry store to drop his bag of "loot". I guess they could have foot patrols on greenwich ave, but that still keeps a certain number of officers on greenwich ave. Having police directing traffic in such a high trafic area also benefits the department by having them in the public eyes. The officers are routinely approached by the public asking directions or other questions, and is a tremendous public service.

Tremendous. If he didn't get it on tape, no one would believe him.

Wow. I know we still have freedom of religion in this country, but this is ridiculous. I initially saw the domain name and was gonna say something about it, but I decided to look at the flier thinking "maybe theyre using the word in another meaning". Nope. Seems to be yet another religious group that is preaching hate. Surprising that they are not only picketing the memorial, but also other churches. Wonder what these people would do if there was a fire at their "church"? If they hate firefighters so much would they prevent them from entering and defiling their church?

Wonder whats on the list? Vampirism?

To be honest with you, it had never occurred to me that someone would use this board the way you described. And you described the scenario with such detail, that i just figured. Anyway, that really sucks that some cretin would use this board for that, and it totally goes against what I beleieve the point of this board to be. I see what you are getting at with requiring people to be registered to even view posts. That would list them at the bottom in the lsit of viewers, but I personally dont really look at the list. And what's to say that someone is going to register with their actual information? Are there any checks in place to ensure that?
-
See that the board is once again open to the public, or so it seems. It let me at least see the homepage of last 10 topics before I had to login. Did the owner decide to go back to the old system, or is he trying something else?
-
Seems to me that this new policy is already in effect. caught me by surprise when I tried to login. Don't know that I agree with this choice. I personally think that this might limit the number of new signups, as people might see the boards as "members only, we don't want outsiders". Yes, I know anyone can join and it doesnt cost anything. I would rather see the last ten threads as public, then the sub-boards as you have to register to see. This would let new people see what it is that goes on here, and see the wide spectrum of topics, and subboards that exist here. There are always going to be lurkers on any board. People that like to read the topics and don't reply for whatever reason. There isnt really an effective way to combat that. It sounds like you have personal experience with someone using information obtained on this board for negative purposes. That totally defetatsthe purpose of this board. Unfortunately there isnt really any way to combat this. The site owners are doing everything they can to keep this a constructive site. This includes requiring members to be "verified" to post. Although I am not sure if any of the ID info is actually verified or if it is just checked that it is there. I would imagine that actually verifying information would take quite a while. Maybe requiring a working non-free service email address in addition to the other contact info. The other step the site owners have taken is to require a login to read any posts. They seem to have locked it down as much as they can without making emtbravo a pay site. Thats the only way, that i see, to totally keep out the people that aren't going to contribute.

Someone mentioned that the directions to open the doors are on the safety card at your seat, but aren't they also printed right on the door? I dont know what kind of specialized training you need to open the door. Thought the exact opposite, so that anyone could open the door in an emergency. In flight the only thing you need to open the door is gorilla arms.

CT law, as I know it says you only have to have a drivers sideview mirror. No doors on the Jeep is fine. Remember hearing something about folding the windshield down and the highway though.

Anyone else see anything wrong with the way he is using his numbers? Percentage wise, the US has less LODD's than sweeden by a factor of 100, if my calcualtions are correct (.00625% vs. .0000879%) . Since the US has about 71 times more firefighters that Sweden, then the numbers come out roughly equal. We have alot more firefighters, so of course we are going to have alot more casualties. If you do the math, if Sweden's number of firefighters equaled the US', they would have 71 LODD's right now, assuming the same rate(1 per 16000). That really isnt that far off of 84. Yes it's lower, but not by that much. In fact, as soon as they get a second lodd, that number would jump to about 142. EDIT: Somehow didnt see the "seven years" part in the original post. So, nevermind my post.

Well, since it is a privately owned website, I would have to say the Website owner gets to dictate what is and is not profane. Ultimately he pays the bills, so what he says goes. If he says profanity will not be tolerated, i for one will respect his wishes. It is the least I can do after using this tremendous resource.

Programmer or serial killer?
-
Any chance you got pics of each compartment?
-
So did I. Anyone ever heard of any of those guys, except for berkowitz? Either the killers or the programmers?
-
I caught that too. They said 10 Volunteers were manning the rig. Don't understand how they can be on "Taxpayer's time". They were in service and in contact with the firehouse according to the article. Ownership of the rigs depends on teh department. I know of some that are owned by the individual volunteer company, and some are owned by the city or town. Really depends on how they work things in their municipality.

Seems to me that these two sides are not necessarily disagreeing with each other. One side is supporting the troops, the other is against the war. I don't see those two arguments as being mutually exclusive. Isn't the best way to support the troops, to bring them home safely? Whether i'm for the war or not, youre damn right that I will support our servicemen and women. I think BFD hit the nail on the head. If the truck was on the other side of the street, the other group would be complaining. How is what tehse guys did any different than the numerous "We support our troops" stickers that i've seen on apparatus?

Didn't we just hear about this happening elsewhere? This is really ridiculous. This brings up a couple questions for me though. First is how was the firefighter able to pull the cop over? I assume he turned on his blue lights, but the police officer works in CT and should know what a flashing blue light signifies, right? Do some police in connecticut utilize just blue lights? The second applies to all branches of emergency services. An emergency vehicle on the road with no lights or sirens on is considered just like any other vehicle, correct? THey must obey any and all traffic laws, right? ie stopping at stopsigns and redlights.

Where are you riding that its 25 a trip? Last time I went to the city it was like 14 round trip.

ENTER Yeah, we both need more points.

Think I read somewhere that Dalmations tend not to be very friendly. although, of course there are exceptions.
