  5. Date: 12-14-06 Time: 0728hrs Location: Bel Air Road Departments: Baltimore County Police Description: K-9 Officer shot by a suspect during perp search after the robbery of a supermarket. Officer was shot in the arm and chest with serious internal injuries. Writer: Truck4 "The man was found on the floor of the shed about 11:30 this morning, moments after a police tactical team fired tear gas into the building and roughly four hours after gunfire from the shed wounded 16-year veteran officer David Garner. Garner has served with the county's police dog section for 12 years and was involved in the search for the suspect in the minutes after the robbery at the Super Fresh store on Bel Air Road in Perry Hall. After he was shot, police directed return fire at the shed. Corp. Mike Hill tells WJZ's Gigi Barnett "This is a very serious incident. This is an armed gun man who has shot a police officer and he certainly will shot anybody he can to try to get away from the scene." The physician in chief at Shock Trauma in Baltimore, Doctor Thomas Scalea (scuh-LEE'-uh) says Garner was admitted at 8:45 a-m with what he calls a through-and-through injury to his right arm and an entry wound in his right chest. Scalea says a bullet pierced a lung, Garner's diaphragm and liver, fractured some ribs and exited Garner's pelvis. Scalea says Garner underwent surgery to have his liver repaired and is in the recovery room in "reasonably stable" condition. He is on a ventilator. Police say he was wearing a bullet-proof vest when he was wounded. Garner is 39-years-old and has a wife and two children. A second suspect was arrested during a foot chase moments after the robbery. Police investigating a series of recent supermarket robberies had been conducting a stake-out outside the store when it was robbed shortly before 7:30 a.m. "This is the third forcemeat involved shooting in the last few days in the Baltimore metropolitan area. We had a Baltimore City Officer shot, Maryland State Trooper shot, and now one of our own shot." added Col. William Kelly. On Monday, Maryland State trooper Eric Workman was shot and critically injured in the Woodlawn area as he and other officers attempted to arrest a suspect in an earlier home invasion and kidnapping. Last week, Baltimore City police officer Momodu Gondo was shot three times in the back outside as he arrived home in Northeast Baltimore at the end of his shift. Workman and Gondo are still hospitalized at Shock Trauma. Scalea commented today on the hospital's handling of the three shootings. He said, "It's emotionally very difficult for me and my staff when the phone rings to put all that aside and do your job...otherwise people don't get the best medical care."

  20. Date: 12-7-06 Time: 2130hrs Location: 1300 block of South 56th St. Departments: PFD Description: (4) dead in 2-story rowhouse fire. Writer: Truck4 Links: http://www.nbc10.com/news/10487150/detail.html Four people died in a row house fire Thursday night in Southwest Philadelphia, officials said. A 4-year-old, an 8-year-old, a 17-year-old and a female adult possibly in her 40s died in the blaze, NBC 10's Mike Strug reported from the scene. Authorities were not yet confirming the ages. One survivor escaped onto the porch roof and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of a hand wound suffered while apparently trying to get back inside the row home, Strug reported. Chopper 10 was over the fire on the 1300 block of South 56th Street, which broke out at about 9:30 p.m. and was reported under control at 10 p.m. "The supervisors of the first responding said it was pretty horrific, fire rolling through the windows, a lot of chaos," said police Lt. John Walker. "There was a kid on the roof yelling that kids were still inside, and it's a pretty sad, tragic story." One person was found dead inside the home, Walker said. Paramedics performed CPR on children en route to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, but they were pronounced dead, as was the adult rushed to University of Pennsylvania Hospital. Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said during a press briefing that the home's inside was completely burned out, and the cause of the fire was still under investigation. After walking through the home, Ayers said he did not find a smoke detector on any level of the home. Copyright 2006 by NBC10.com. All rights reserved. 25. As of this date, the FDNY Rant board has closed it's public, open forum. The following message was posted by the Admin: "First off I would like to thank all those that contributed in a postive way to this web-site. This by far has gotten out of hand with some of the "members" on here. So I will leave the FDNY members only section up. If anyone would like to join that send me a PM. And it takes a long time to confirm your employment, so be patient. Good luck to all . Be Safe And Never Forget. Any member that wishes to join the FDNY members only site , you need to pm me with your Real Name , Company , grup # and tax # ... As in the past oncve you send me this info and I verify who you are I delete your info." I have followed this site for quite some time and found some information and accounts very informative and at times, even fun. But as time went on, more of the similar problems we've faced here became too much of a turn-off, and now, obviously, too much of an aggrevation for the Admin. I completely understand the Admin's position and don't blame him. Hopefully the Rant will find more success in a member's only format and I wish them the best of luck. Any of this sound familiar? It should. We've been taking big steps to improve the Forums here at EMTBravo by instituting the Verified Member Program without going with a full blown members only and closed format. Is that the next step? It could be. The Rant is just another site anchored in an open forums format to shut it's doors. Recently we have also seen The Yonkers Tribune and News12.com's bulletin board and forum sections shut down or become member's only. One reason we would like to stay open and public is so that the Forums can be read by anyone in our respective fields, even those who choose not to become actively involved for whatever reason. Some of the information here is too important to hide from people with the responsibility of protective and preserving life and safety. The biggest difference between EMTBravo and other sites is that we have a lower level of tolerance. What may tick off a few people is what is keeping this site alive and thriving. What we expect is clear. What we offer is exclusive. There is no other site like this on the Net and it's yours -free. EMTBravo has come a long away with over 5,000 members and will continue to improve. I'd like to personally thank the Membership for making this site what it is and look forward to logging in every day. Happy Holidays! Mike Truck4
