  18. Was it really necessary for the Journal News to put that in thier article? I figure they started calling the various PD's this AM for information and got what they felt was the runaround. Oops, nobody wants to talk to the Journal News? Can't imagine why. The scene was investigated overnight and released, so somebody must have took ownership. Reads like sour grapes, very professional. The first event of the accident started around the pedestrian bridge where the tractor trailer first hit the center divider. The truck then kept moving south before crossing over and striking the SUV. It is possible that the incident began in Yonkers and ended in the Bronx. In any event, no part of the accident investigation is on Yonkers. It's between the NYSP and NYPD, who were hashing it out when I was there.

  20. Travelled to Italy in June and shot rigs in four cities. The Vigili Del Fuoco is the national fire service of Italy. They turn out of regional fire stations as compared to the neighborhood fire stations that we see here. Since they are regional, most stations house over a dozen units in each house. Also common in other European countries, the department runs many role specific and special use units. The Vatican, or Vatican City, has it's own fire station staffed by the Vigili Del Fuoco. The rigs are parked outside with no apparatus housing. Vatican City is considered it's own, independent country. First due engine: The rest of the fleet. Note the jeep on the far right with the ladders. Ladder Co.?: More Vatican photos can be found here: http://onthejobny.com/gallery/The-Latest/

  22. I spoke briefly to the rep at Firehouse Expo this weekend. Gibbs and Lockheed Martin began developing these vehicles for military use in spring 2007. http://www.gibbslockheedamphibians.com/index.php The demo they had at the show was the ARC 2500 First Responder base model. They basically take the frame for the military version and custom outfit the thing for law enforcement, rescue or firefighting use. It's 25-feet long and 8-feet wide. listed speeds of 30 knots on water and 60 on land. Some available options are roof turret, fire pump, winch systems front and back and auxiliary lighting kits. There are no ARC 2500's in municipal service as of yet.
