I think x635 would be much more interested if it were James Hetfield riding with a Westchester VAC. Then again, that would be the most un-metal thing since Hetfield cut his hair.

Last night at about 0100hrs, I heard Dover Township FD (Ocean County) NJ give out an outside smoke odor on 154.145 on an old Uniden base. I can usually get as far south as Jersey City and Northern Monmouth County on my Uniden BC785D, but this was the first time I've ever heard Ocean County in Yonkers. Just thought I'd share. Very cool.

"Doubtful Will Hold" in the FDNY means the units/manpower at scene will most likely not be enough to extinguish the fire. "Probable" means the units at scene will probably be enough. There can be a job where the fire is knocked down or even out and still "Doubtful," because the command believes additional units would still be required for non-suppression reasons overhaul, relief, ETC.

Though the county isn't particularly known for Halloween being an active, "Detroit-like" night, some memorable incidents have come in around the holiday. Halloween itself has seen fires in Eastchester (10-31-99 -2nd Alarm 174 Summerfield St. Fully involved gas station), Bedford (10-31-98- 2nd Alarm on arrival 7 Lincoln Ave) Rye (10-31-97 -Mutual Aid job on Forest Ave) and Fairview (10-31-00- 2nd Alarm, 2 Stone Ave X Old Kensico Rd.). Rockland County Firefighters fought a large brush fire in Hillburn for 5 days (10/28-11/1) in 2001. Arguably the most remarkable incidents of the season occured in Yonkers on October 30th. In 1996, the first in a series of fires over the last 8 years at the Con Edison Tuckahoe Road Sub-Station knocked out power to a significant portion of New York City. The YFD's second foam operation in days called in Mutual Aid from a number of departments, including the FDNY. In 1997, a multiple alarm fire leveled a Lake Ave church. This job was part of a streak of major fires starting in the summer of that year and running well into 1998. That streak included major fires Dobbs Ferry, Pelham Manor, White Plains, Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown. 1998 came to a close with a General Alarm fire in New Rochelle.
