Fire through the roof. 1317hrs- Heavy fire is K/D. Companies have re-entered the building. Still have fire on top flloor. 1330hrs- Fire is K/D, companies overhaulling. 1344hrs- B-1 Rpts fire now in 55 Chestnut St., around corner on Exp. 4 side. PD have suspect description of EDP that is wanted for setting both fires. 1356hrs- Fire in 55 Chestnut is knocked down. ***Full IA to be completed this afternoon***

A little research shows that the "worst" according to the list, Yakima County, WA Station #5 shows that particular volunteer department covers 125 square miles (mostly rural) out of 3 stations. As a basis of comparison, Yonkers (far behind Mount Vernon) covers 18.3 square miles.

Reports of several residents unaccounted for. 2000hrs- Fire blowing out (16) windows in rear on all floors. TL-75 going to work in rear. L-73 setting up on Exp. 2 side. Fire running cockloft across entire roof area. 2042hrs- Heavy fire on all floors and through the roof. Setting up ladder pipe in front. (1) firefighter being transported by Empress. 2048hrs- (2) ladder pipes (74, 72), (1) TL (71) in operation in front. (1) TL (75) in operation in rear. E-301, E-305; L-76 in service with recall manpower. E-305 to cover Sta. 13. 2059hrs- B-1 reports co's putting (2) lines into operation out windows in exp. 4. (4th and 5th floor windows) YFD Rehab Unit enroute. 2100hrs- E-315, L-77 in service to cover Sta. 12. 2130hrs- E-309 dropping supply line down Caryl Ave to Mclean Ave. Car 80 at repair shop putting apparatus into service. 2140hrs- B-1 (Progress Report) rpts (2) Tower Ladders, (2) ladder pipes in operation. (2) lines in operation out of Exp. 4. Heavy fire through roof. 2200hrs- Still have heavy fire through the roof. L-76 and L-79 being put into service. 2258hrs- L-78 is in service, responding to Sta. 13. 0005hrs- B-1 req. additional Engine and Truck for relief of E-304/L-74. 0037hrs- CMD reports main body of fire is K/D. Collapse danger exists for building. Still occupants unaccounted for. PD, Red Cross and Civil Defense attempting to locate all residents for head count. 0700hrs- At this time, (1) occupant still unaccounted for. 2200hrs- (1) confirmed DOA located inside the building.
