  21. A six year veteran officer with the New Hartford Police Department was shot and killed Monday night while pursuing two suspects in the robbery of a New Hartford jewelry store. Joseph Corr, age 30, was killed when he was shot by one of two men involved in the robbery of the Lennon's W.B. Wilcox Jewelers on Commercial Drive. The shooting took place at the end of a police chase, near the Byrne Dairy store on Route 5 in Kirkland where the suspect’s getaway car hit gas pumps. Corr was a six year veteran of the New Hartford Police Department. He leaves a wife, infant daughter and his parents. Confirmation of his death was given at a police press conference Tuesday morning. New Hartford police responded to a 911 call from the jewelry store around 8:30PM Monday night. Upon arrival, the police found that the store had been robbed. A car chase developed involving police and two suspects heading west on Seneca Turnpike. That chase ended with the crash of the suspect vehicle at the Byrne Dairy. The car chase then turned into a foot chase involving New Hartford and Kirkland police. It was during the foot pursuit that one of the suspects shot and killed Officer Corr. The other suspect was arrested at the Byrne Dairy. Second suspect subsequently shot and killed in Chester City, PA by U.S Marshalls.

  24. At least the 30D is still 8.3 Mp, but the 17-55 2.8 IS stings a bit. Review of the new Canon products as written for B&H.com: Canon continues to raise the bar on imaging technology. Aside from a gaggle of new digital point-and-shoots, Canon unveiled an update of the successful EOS 20D DSLR. The new camera, known as the Canon EOS 30D, contains the same 8.3 Mp sensor as its predecessor, but with a bunch of physical and practical improvements. Among these improvements are a slightly beefier body, a larger (2.5”) rear-mounted LCD display, 3 or 5 fps continuous shooting capability, spot metering, ISO speeds in 1/3-step intervals, direct printing to compatible printers, quicker start-up and shutter-response times, and "PictureStyles" for controlling the color and tonal qualities of your image files. In the optics department, Canon has introduced the EF-S 17-55/2.8 IS, a faster version of its popular EF-S kit lens. The new lens boasts a constant f2.8 aperture throughout the focal-length range. Combined with IS technology, this lens offers the low-light handling of a non-IS lens with a maximum aperture of f1.4. Another benefit of the wider aperture is quicker response times for the cameras AF system. If you own a Canon 20D, 30D, or Rebel XT, this new zoom is worth a close look if you are seeking a lens you can couple to your Canon D-SLR and play with all day long. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...ink_PMA_Article
