Just to add to this article a few points not included. The incident on the Saw Mill was related to drag racing. These skells would stop traffic on the Saw Mill at Mclean Ave, to line up thier POS Civics to race up the highway. Early Sunday morning, WCPD and YPD stopped multiple cars at Yonkers Ave and Palmer Rd. There was a job on the Sprain last year where these tools stopped traffic on the Sprain at Tuckahoe Road to line up a race and causing a horrific wreck. As usual, the jerks racing weren't injured, but the poor family in the car that plowed into them went to WCMC.

Date: 6-7-06 Time: 1043hrs Location: Pine Springs Dr. X Mary Ann St. Description: Original call for a domestic disturbance, first arriving officer was shot and killed by a high-powered rifle. Suspect then held wife and child hostage. After three hours, suspect exited house armed and Writer: Truck4 From Officer.com Police shot and killed a Smith County man after a standoff that began when he shot and killed a constable, authorities said. After more than three hours, Joseph Earl Walsh, 52, emerged from the house armed and aggressive when Tyler police shot him, said Jean Dark of the Department of Public Safety. He was taken away in an ambulance. Multiple Smith County officials, requesting anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, said Walsh died. The officials identified the dead officer as Constable Dale Geddie. A second officer, identified as a Smith County Sheriff's deputy, was shot and injured when responding with Geddie to a domestic disturbance call at about 10:43 a.m. Shawn Walker, a man who identified himself as Walsh's stepson, told Tyler television station KLTV that his father killed an officer. "My stepfather shot the policeman," he said through tears. Dark, a public information officer for the Department of Public Safety, said Walsh released a woman and a small child from the house before he emerged. The woman and child were seen walking to an ambulance. Walsh had told officers "it will be over by five o' clock," according to police radio communications. Smith County Sheriff's Lt. Larry Wiginton said the shooter was armed with a deer rifle and at least 150 rounds of armor-piercing ammunition. Other police communications indicated the man had multiple pistols and rifles, and that his father was in a Department of Public Safety vehicle being questioned by officers. One of Geddie's deputies was seen crying as fellow officers consoled him. Officials said Geddie's parents were brought to the scene. An officer who was trapped in an unsafe area near the house in northern Smith County was evacuated in an armored personnel carrier after 1 p.m. Blood was visible in the vehicle when the door opened. Dark said all officers who were in immediate danger near the house had been evacuated before Walsh emerged. Federal, state and local officers surrounded the house, which has metal bars on the windows, and snipers were positioned in the area. The house is near the intersection of Mary Ann Street and Pine Springs Drive, just off U.S. Highway 271 north of Tyler. Some neighbors were evacuated, and others were told to stay inside their homes away from doors and windows until the standoff ended.

When in San Diego in 2004, I was talking to a member of SDFD Rescue 1 who told me how great the guys felt when Chief Bowman took over in 2002 and that things were really going to change for the better. This is a major US city with a heavily populated waterfront, on one of the busiest bays on the West Coast, and does not have a fireboat. From 10news.com San Diego Fire Chief Jeff Bowman officially retires Friday, apparently disgruntled over a lack of resources for the department. The 54-year-old Bowman, a firefighter for 33 years who took command of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department in May 2002 after stepping down as Anaheim's fire chief, announced his resignation April 4. He has supported Assistant San Diego Fire Chief Tracy Jarman, saying that his second-in-command, "inside the department, is the only one ready for the job." Jarman, who joined the department 22 years ago, is at the top in the department's plan of succession, which Bowman developed shortly after he arrived four years ago. SDFRD Capt. Michael Merriken said Jarman has been named interim chief and is one of more than 20 applicants vying for the job, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Bowman expressed confidence in Mayor Jerry Sanders, who expects to name the next chief by Aug. 1, according to the newspaper. Bowman has alluded to insufficient money and resources for the department, a pension promise that never went through and San Diego's financial troubles as reasons for his departure. "I will miss the people, but I won't miss the job," Bowman told the Union-Tribune. Bowman has already sold his home in Kensington and bought one in Escondido, and he and his wife, Denise, are thinking about starting a small winery on their 2 1/2-acre property, according to the Union-Tribune. Bowman said he expects he'll have plenty of consulting offers to consider and that he sees himself instructing departments across the state.
