Let's hope they stop the madness someday. I've said it before Fire trucks are still gonna get hit from behind Chevrons are not gonna reduce accidents. Stupid drivers will never stop.....

We have two trackers one is in the deputy chief's car for the RIT team and the other unit is on the Rescue. We found the unit works well in a wood frame building. The unit does not work as well in non-combustible buildings or fire resistive buildings. I would prefer it worked better in a larger building not a wood frame building with doors and windows in close proximity to one another. It would be nice in a say a 70,000 square foot building your means of egress for firefighter removal are a lot more challenging and time consuming.

We don't pack hose for parades. The hose we use packs very crappy. The hose sits on the next layer to high due to all the air in the hose. So the hose wants to sit higher than the dividers. My company prides itself in neat hose to furnish a kink free deployment. We use 2" hose with smooth bore nozzles with a 1" tip. Our company always rotates the hose from the bottom layer To the top layer when we repack the hose.

When you do replace your hose carefully pay attention to the outside and inside diameter's. Each manufacture is slightly different. You get slightly different flows. I don' t wanna devulge the name of the hose we use other than it packs in the mattidale like ----. It kinks it' s heavy and we ( my company only) use a vacuum to suck all the air out of the hose to get it to lay flat. I did some testing we used the task force digital flow meters it was interesting to see the change in flows from one brand to the other. Nothing earth shattering but none the less. The way the hose is made with different materials changes the inside diameter.

I have the Pro-Tech Gloves they are black in color and are Gauntlet style. The model I can't recall. They are the middle of the line gloves in the Protech lineup. I just cant afford the $100 gloves the city of Stamford does not replace those type of gloves. The city hands out the Blue older FDNY style glove (the name escapes me). I have put them thru lots of calls so far, And they didn't break the bank. The biggest thing I like the best about them is when they are wet they still go on easy.

All of our rigs have roll up doors. I would say that unpainted doors are better. The problem is that the doors take a beating in the rolled up position, when your moving tools about the inside of the compartment.The door when rolled up on the drum tends to get scratched from the tools. In a busy company you can tell which compartments are opened the most by the scratches. Example ems compartment or the compartment with the irons and can ect. Also I notice we tend to over wash the rigs and leave a lot of swirl marks from the brush. We wax the rigs once a year. Boy do I wish we had non painted Doors then. Cleaning wax between the slats blows!! Big time.

4 Years ago me and my buddy's were in Datona Florida at bike week, We were waiting in Hooters to get seated for dinner, when in walks Vinny behind us in line. He was by himself we were bullshitting with him in the line when our table was called we asked him if he wanted to sit with us so he said yes. We were all talking about the show and he did say in so many words without dissing senior that the Guy is impossible to be around. Most not all of the fighting you see on TV was for real. Vinny is as down to earth as you can get just a normal guy happy to be working on a cool show not caught up in the drama.

The Chief states "The main body of fire must be may be attacked with a Pre connected deck gun or another master stream type. A heavy body of fire in a store can require 800-900GPM to darken it down. Placing the tower ladder bucket down at the sidewalk, directly in front of the store window, you put in place the most highly mobile 1,000GPM plus master stream avaible. Goes on to say that if the 2 inch tip at more than 100PSI can't open ceilings than you wont be able to do it with hooks eithier.

Stacked Tips SHOULD be the Prefered method of extinguishing a large volume of Fire. IT'S MY OPINION that I belive the problem of Smoothbore vs Fog streams starts in the Firehouse from the top of the food chain. Some of.. The Tip sizes starting from the largest size to the smallest are as follows. 2inch, 1-3/4inches 1-1/2inches 1-3/8inches. I see no reason but to use only the 2inch or the 1-3/4inch MAYBE the 1-1/2 size. I hear it sometimes and it drives me nuts "We use the smaller tip size to get the reach of the stream??" Move the Master Stream device closer to the Fire (Respect your Collapse zones). Dont use a smaller tip on the nozzle your waisting precious time..Your making the Large GPM Master Stream a Useless low GPM Handline on a Million dollar Ladder truck. Another "Myph".. We need the Fog Nozzle for Exposure Protection by forming a Water curtain???. Put the BIG GPM on the Fire FAST as possible and you wont have Exposures. Look at Buff Pictures of the past ..What do you see 15 Handlines flowing low GPM results. Use bigger lines with matching Tips and you will use less hose. Great idea for the up and coming 3 man Firefighting team in a Chevy Tahoe idea coming out of Townhall.

Chief Car's, Police cars, And firetrucks are being lit up like Christmas tree's. Enough with the lights already I aggree with the rest of the guys. When do we call it a day with these lights?. I just came from Virginia Beach VA. The police cars there have 1 light bar, Maybe a hideaway in the brake light's that's it. I work in a two piece house when we follow our Engine You cant see because the LED lights and the traffic stick are plain too brite. The LED's were powered down so they dont show as brite. They still blind you. Im thinking when were operating on the highway that we cause the other side of the highway's traffic problems at night. Because you can see the accident for about 4 miles. There are apparatus with lights coming out of the woodwork in places I never thought possible, No wonder the apparatus is a electrical nightmare when the apparatus is 3 years old. (Except Stamford cause our stuff is the best...better than Pierce?? thats an actual quote) Yes you have to abide by the NFPA Standard (INDUSTRY DRIVEN OF COURSE.. DONT KID YOURSELF) Block the lane Boys and girls... Close the Street at the next Fire. Save the budget! Buy things like Rex tools and Eight Pound axes and 24 tooth chopper blades for your roof saw.

I think the apparatus looks terrible. Do I think the Chevrons are helping?? Lets see My Engine 1 got hit by a Tractor trailer, Then there was Stratford shortly (2 rigs) therafter so I'm gonna go with no on this one. as for the vest we have to don they get a BIG thumbs down. Lets stick with two rigs taking the lane of traffic and leave the striping and the vest back in the store where they belong.

Try the thin Morning Pride hood that has the Ventilation on the top. It's a bib style hood. I Prefer the thin hood myself so i can monitor the heat since the rest of our gear these day's is so good you can crawl into trouble real easy.
