  2. I was watching quite the light show last night in my driveway at about 9:30 in Trumbull. That was one of the most intense lightning shows I have ever seen. It never got too bad here, just the lightning and some rain, it was cool though!
  3. I guess we are lucky. Each member of the Norwalk Fire Department has 2 sets of black Morning Pride gear. One set for daily use and a second set in case the first is soiled. The spare gear is kept in a special closet at each station where the member is normally stationed. It is under lock and key so if a member needs his second set, he must ask the Lt. on duty for the key and state the reasons therefor. This is to prevent members from keeping the second set in their car or house and using it for convenience. The practice of having 2 sets of gear is invaluable in my opinion. In the middle of the night, in the middle of the winter after a serious fire or accident, knowing you have a clean, dry set of gear back at the station is so important to being able to continue to perform at your best, that I cannot believe it is not mandatory that departments provide this to members. One of the ways we were able to do this 2 set of gear thing was through a grant for PPE. It included SCBA's and turnouts. Joe

  5. Quite frankly, I cannot believe this is even being discussed seriously. I am quite certain that I would lose my job if I had a radio cranking tunes while responding to even the most nuisance of alarms. If it was even on, at the very least I would be given a written reprimand. This is silly to even discuss. On the way back from a run or doing official errands and business with the engine and having the Yankee game on to hear the progress is one thing but the topic of this thread is utterly ludicrous.
  6. Happy 30th. Enjoy. Remember, its only a number. JVC
  7. I vaguely remember the waldbaums fire that killed those 6 FDNY members, but I STRONGLY remember the lessons that were learned at the expense and great loss of those men. I commonly use the example when teaching about roof construction and dangers, especially the bowstring type. Your point is well taken and I agree with it entirely. I am certain the original post meant no disrespect to those "BRAVEST". They were, are and always will be our "true heros".
  8. It was an honor to have seen Thurman behind the plate many years ago, he was and is baseball to me. All I ever wanted to do on the field was be behind the plate catching and my LL coach even called me THURM. I would only wear #15.
  9. Pepe's is good, but very overpriced, you are essentially paying for the name. I would put a Colony Grill (Stamford) pizza up against a Pepe's any day. The ovens at Pepe's are pretty neat though. Coal-fired ovens give the pizza crust a unique consistency. Don't get me wrong, I would go to ANY Pepe's ANY day. As a matter of fact, I'm getting hungry.
  10. We welcome the delivery of Rescue 2, a 2009 Spartan/Marion Heavy Walk-In Rescue. A unique aspect of this truck is the many anchor points it provides for technical rescue, including the ones on the sides under the warning lights that are rated for 750 Lbs as shown in the last picture
  11. Nice rig, these Spartans are starting to grow on me...I wonder why.
  12. Awesome, I personally think there is no more versitile truck than a 75' aerialscope, in conjunction with a good 100'+ stick of course.

  15. I cannot remember where I heard this, but is Stamford trying to buy a aerialscope? That would be awesome for them. I know the pricetag is high though.
  16. Agreed. Proper judgement and common sense should prevail, but sometimes it doesn't.
  17. Chris, I respectfully disagree. There are cases when a firefighter cannot report to work for firefighting duties due to restrictions on lifting or strenuous activity, but they can function as a normal person can and go about their "normal" routine until they go back to work. Same with Police Officers and EMS workers. Not all cases are that cut and dry.
  18. GREAT PICS SO FAR! Did Pound Ridge have to leave the parade early for thier fire? I heard New Canaan was there too (at the fire). JVC
  19. Delivered this week, Command Car 2 (Unit designation "Car 2"). 2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty crew cab with Leer cap.
  20. I think the excursion model was discontinued? The shop wanted the DC vehicle to be a deisel and that is the only model that they would accept. I personally think there was other options but thats what they wanted. It does look good though and to answer the questions about the lights, I think it will have a full LED package, not hide-a-way, it probably will have an arrow stick on it as it is normal protocol to have the DC car assist with traffic control on major roads and highways, at least before CSP arrives or local PD.
  21. Nice pics, thanks for sharing!
  22. I just received these pictures from the manufacturer this afternoon. The pictures will be featured in the 2010 Marion wall calendar. We are looking forward to getting into service and start using it. It came out awesome!
  23. Very interesting...now we wait for Belltown's fate...Will it be similar? I know the case is being heard in a different city so it ought to be interesting.
  24. I want to congratulate the NH20 on thier victory. We all know how hard they fought for what they felt was right and I applaud their efforts!
  25. A houseman is a person who works at a volunteer fire department and does things like minor maintenance, housekeeping, opening the building for deliveries etc. and when the bell does hit, they usually are members and can respond, as a paid driver would. I think by defining them as housemen, they are technically not paid firefighters and there is no risk of IAFF organization. Many years ago, Belltown FD had a paid houseman, which eventually turned into a paid driver position. I believe the Long Hill and Trumbull Center departments in Trumbull, Conn. have a houseman each funded by the fire tax districts for the respective departments. I also think that the pay rates are not on par with what a paid firefighter gets, and the hours are usually weekdays 9-5.
