Fox Ridge Tree farm in Warwick, NY has hundreds of trees. I have been cutting my trees there for the past 4 years and always have a great time with the family.
-
Thoughts and prayers to all involved.
-
Yonkers still uses them, and also uses the auditorium raise (another good one).

I wasn't going to respond to this but I feel you may be missing the point of the evolution. Its really not about tradition, the purpose is to build confidence and help recruits get over any fear of heights they may have. I will tell you this, it works. As far as safety is concerned, as I said in my previous post a safety line is usually used, so there are no "deadly" consequences. The instructors and officers assigned to probie school know what they are doing and safety is always the number one priority. Lastly, its supposed to scare the hell out of you, but once you have done it, ordinary ladder exercises will be like a walk in the park. Hope this helps... Frank

Good luck Barry, enjoy retirement.....

These are used in probie school as a confidence builder. If you are lucky enough to make firefighting your career you will probably be required to do the drill. As in PCFD's photo you will use a pompier very similar to that and lean back while you are clipped on with your gemtor belt. If it makes you feel any better they usually use a safety line these days. Don't worry after probie school you will probably never see one again. Good luck......

Try the Ifsta building construction manual, I think you will find all you need and a little more in there.

Ladder 70 and the new Rescue were in Yonkers at the DPW garage as of yesterday. I would imagine Ladders 73 and 74 will arrive shortly if they haven't already.

You would probably have the best chance with FDNY. They are the largest job by far so therefore do the most hiring. The other cities are alot smaller so you would have to do exceptionally well on the tests to get hired. It's a personal decision where you are going to reside, best of luck to you whatever you decide.

Tell your buddy to watch the list, if he is not going to reached (he's probably not going to be) he can withdraw his vet credits and use them on another test. You don't want to let valuble credits go to waste. Good luck in the future to all candidates.

Bottom line here is if you want something you need to earn it. You should not be handed a position because of your race, color or religion. Especially if that position puts peoples lives in your hands. This kind of crap is all you here about today. They want standards lowered and tests made easier in order to get more minorities on the job. As if there is not enough problems already they want to hand jobs to people who can't pass the basic entry exams. What a joke. These days they do all but take the tests for some people. If you want these jobs the system is fair, study, train, and become a resident. If that doesn't work you need to find another career, these jobs are not for everyone.

Rest in Peace Kev. Thoughts and prayers to Colin and the Deane family.

I will be chained to the apparatus door of station 10 if they ever come to move us out!

I was thinking more in the lines of marching. You can't tie up rigs in a small community that doesn't have any spares. Never saidf anything about the entire department being there either. If they can't keep a decent number of members on standby for the hour that the parade would take up then they are doing the right thing by not taking part.
-
This is a shame, a St. Patty's day parade just doen't seem right without the local PD and FD marching in it. There will probably be departments from all over showing up to march, it will be strange without the local department involved. These parades are when the people of the community come out to have a good time and show their support for the people who protect them. Hopefully the bosses can work something out to get their crew there. It doesn't seem that it should be that big of a project to get this done.

Definite overkill there. Just one of those mechanical sirens in the front is enough to scare motorists into an early grave, can't imagine what four of them sound like. I'm sure they could have come up with a better way to spend their funds.

What are CME's?

Yonkers trains and issues ropes and gemtors in probie school. Senior members were trained and issued the same several years ago. Training days on both are offered several times during the year if members want a refresher or to practice their use.

Can anyone tell me what the current edition of the Brady Emergency Care is. I was told there is an eleventh but the large bookstores only show a tenth. Thanks in advance.
-
Thanks again, I will pick it up this week. I still have the eighth edition so I think it is time for an update.
