Speaking of traditions, don't forget good old fashioned ball breaking. To many thin skins these days.

Rick you better cut down on those firehouse meals.......

Don't worry chief it takes more than a bunch of caps to offend me (lol). If an elevator can actually snap a haligan, probably not, but this is what was told to us by the mechanic who knows alot more than I do about elevators. At least I hope he does. I am very familiar with the counterweight pulley system. Stuck occupied elevators calls are daily in Yonkers. As the chief has stated when the brakes are released the car moves upwards slowly. Thanks for the info on the switch Mike, that is good to know. If you are trying to learn about elevator rescue and there is a free course available, it sounds like a no brainer. Mike any info on when the course will be offered again? Good luck with training all and stay safe.....

A lot of elevator cars have a power switch located on the top of the car. If you go to the floor above the car and open the door, you can reach the switch with a pole or broom handle. Its nice because it disables the motor but keeps the lights on in the car so any trapped occupants aren't freaked out any more than they already are. I have heard of the haligan in the pulley trick but not to sure about its usefulness. We questioned an elevator mechanic on scene one day and he told us that if the brakes were to let go it would snap the tool like it was a toothpick.

take a ride over to best buy or staples or any store that sells computers and they will have everything you need to set up a wireless network. Talk with one of the sales people they will know exactly what you will need.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Steve, from myself and everyone down at the Big House. I will see you soon. Frank

Good luck overseas, and thank you for your service. Have a safe tour of duty. I'm proud of our soldiers, it's because of them that this country is still great. Thanks again and be safe.

Quikcrete has a concrete/asphalt cleaner. It's available at Lowes and worked pretty good on my driveway. Good luck.

I wonder if their politicians voted themselves a raise also. Good luck to all the members of PD and FD out there in Mass. No bailout money for the people that serve and protect?

Not positive but I believe that they were replacing officers that retired.

Yes hoods are optional. We are not issued them or required to use them.

Maybe he can borrow the Pope-mobile....

Call it what you want, but it comes down to is giving up 1 tour of overtime to get our brothers working again. My only regret about this is that they are not restoring all the demoted Lts. only 6. We need our brothers back in the firehouse period.

I think the conference room is probably one of the more important features of this rig. It gives agency heads a place to discuss planning, logistics, etc.... while out of the elements but still able to keep a close eye on what is going on. The capabilities of this rig are incredible. We all hope that it never needs to be used but the reality of it is that sooner or later it will be put into operation and it sure is nice to be well prepared.

My prayers to his family and crew. RIP......

Not trying to set you straight. Just trying to clarify thats all. You are correct you must be a resident 3 months prior. There is also an age restriction on this test. The system is not perfect, but compared to some its not bad.
-
Passing score is 70 not 1. I believe if a municipality makes the decision to use a resident list they must completely exhaust it before going to the non resident list. As a side note, they usually hire no more than 70 members within the duration of the list, so to even have a shot you must be a resident with a combined score somewhere in the 90's. Hope this helps...Good luck candidates.

The test that YFD uses is a very competetive timed test. It counts as 50 percent of your test score. Candidates with the better times get the higher scores. If you can do well enough on that to get hired, you will have no problem with the CPAT.
-
YFD has not yet used the CPAT as an entry test , although there is a test scheduled for I think June and I don't know what method of testing will be used. I personally like the older method, it is more competitive. Either way good luck to all candidates.
-
Westchester uses the CPAT at the end of probie school. You are required to pass in order to keep your job. It is a state run test and is not that difficult if you are in half decent shape. Like stated above practicing on some stairs is a good idea.

WCPD had an ESU unit but was disbanded a few years back. Like the above post stated they do have alot of specialty units including an excellent special response team an an aviation unit to name a few. Chris 192 would be the man to answer any questions you may have.....

Rockland County Sheriffs used to hire part timers to do prisoner transports. Don't know if they still do.
