Sounds like to me that this incident was appropriately handle and no more criticism should be made.  This seems like a isolated incident that required a special resource and that was requested and responded and handle it as needed,  end of story.
 
Those with criticisms, if they are so involved and have such expect opinions and knowledge ought to think about joining their local fire department if they want to help out so much.
 
Don't criticize those who decide and make your lives safe everyday by these proper decisions, but embrace that they are doing a job and doing it correct.

The Westchester Fire Advisory Board is having a quarterly meeting tonight at 4 Dana Road, Valhalla, NY beginning at 7:30 p.m. I expect to see all you Monday Morning Quarterbacks there ready to explain how you'll fix the entire county fire service like you claim you can on here.

Like Seth said. You pay for what you get. Still its cheaper then 800 grand or more for a new one. 

You will be missed. There was never any chance of running short on any meal you cooked. Your dinners and lunches had large portions and lots of ball busting and laughs. I'm sure your making a big meal for the brothers on the other side now. Thanks for the memories and rest easy.

Way of the future, lack of good candidates coming up through ranks, lack of long term members sticking around, people don't just give this worthwhile job a good shake, they all have the hand out but don't do to make better for the dept. Just appears to be the way of the volunteer services today lots of depts are in this shape, but most won't think forward like this one is.
It sad to say I see it in many, including my own, but the people in power afraid to do right thing and the young afraid to step up for the right reasons, they do it for wrong reasons.

Just last year or So there was a heated topic about the Town of Colonie, NY and the paid staff programs that many of the departments have. Well some of the paid staff programs have organized under one local of the IAFF, Colonie Professional Firefighters Association, Local 4924. This is not a issue in most cases, but as usual one bad apple could spoil the bunch. I think that in the case Santa riding on the fire truck is not the same as why the policies are in effect, they are there to warn against riding these outside positions while doing higher speeds to calls. Which one might ask, why we make a policy to prevent accidents with people riding outside positions instead of teaching how to drive safely instead.
The case with the Santa who almost had his taken off, they was stupidity on the part of the rider not watching or his spotter watching his travel path.
Leave this issue along, it is nothing to do with violations of fire department policies on riding to calls on the outside of the apparatus.
