Gloucester County in south jersey is having the same problems as Westchester. Search on GOOGLE. They combined SO FAR TEN departments to begin it's county wide EMS SYSTEM. I started out as a volunteer like alot of us, BUT the time is here for REGIONALIZATION. Do volunteer organizations need to fold? How about PAID? Well how about creating a regionalized system. Volunteers merging with other volunteers. No more squads with 1 ambulance and 15 members. Merge 3 or more to form a larger more oraganized group. Think of the benefits? Could it still be volunteer? SURE. Same for some small paid departments. THE TIME HAS COME! EMS A THIRD RESPECTED SERVICE.

vacguy RELAX, take a deep breath. As i stated this is common around the country? But departments won't admit to it untill brought to the publics attention. Paid or volunteer it is happening all over. NEW JERSEY is no better. Document, document, document. If i was the MUTUAL AID unit that ultimately responded i would have my department head contact that departments head. Find out why? If not satisfied then go above their head with information. It has to stop. EMS A THIRD SERVICE.

Is this truely an unusual incident? Or does this happen time and time again? Around the country? My opinion, the town administrators need for these types of incidents brought to their attention. Have the Chief in charge of that department explain why this occurred. Situations to be addressed? What is the priority here? FIRE or EMS? Policies? And most of all (department heads) that allow this to happen. The problem that i see here is the (pick and choose syndrome). (Remarkable) The confirmed patient vs the malfunctioning alarm. I see where the priority is! If you want to do FIRE and EMS better have your policies in order. Or as i see it, EMS NEEDS TO BE A THIRD RESPECTED SERVICE!!!!

Has anyone heard if ALF is going out of business? Chapter 11? Looking for a new buyer? CURIOUS?
-
The information we heard is about a month old. A fellow co-worker was talking to a department who tried to order a new truck and was told that ALF was having financial diffucuties and could not build the unit. We have also heard a number of new vehicles are on back order? E-one we heard about. Just wondering if anyone can confirm this? HOPE THIS IS NOT TRUE.

Hi to everyone. My name is? I can't say. This is what happens when you work for a state facility. So i have to be careful. EMT since 1973 in NJ. Professional EMT for 27 years. Assigned to a HEAVY RESCUE unit. More than 3000 runs a year for a non firefighting rescue unit. Looking for retirement soon. Love the job. But hate the politics. Lousy pay and benefits. No respect for EMS in my lfetime. EMS needs to be a third service. That's enough crying. Yes Seth i finally became verified. P.S. come ride with us AGAIN. Maybe you can finally get the pictures you want.

Hey Seth, If you want a great photo OP. WALLINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT IN BERGEN COUNTY NJ. will be having their annual CHRISTMAS PARADE this Saturday November 24th. It starts around 5:00pm. I heard that this year it will take about 3 hours to pass any location you stand at. Over 100 apparatus, support vehicles and trailers will be decorated. Only 1 Santa is allowed, which is provided by Wallington. Check youtube for last years parade. It's a site to see.

Lots of questions need to be answered first. Who was the lead EMS agency? Who became the EMS branch Director? Who became the Triage Group Supervisor? Who became the Treatment Group Supervisor? (preferably a paramedic). Who became the Transport Group Supervisor? Who became the EMS Staging Officer? All these positions would be the basics for running a smooth EMS M.C.I. operation. Could EMS have it's own Safety Officer who has a working knowledge of EMS operations and procedures inorder to prevent problems like 5 or less firefighters trying to carry a victim from triage to the treatment area? (Yes). For a 50 patient incident it should be comfortable for 2 to 4 EMT's to be utilized for triage. 2 of these EMT's could be left in the triage area and direct the firefighters into which patients are to be moved to treatment and in what order. Let us not forget that as EMS personnel we can adapt and guide others. Would firefighters expect us to know how to operate a pumper or ladder truck. Then how can we expect others to know EMS operations at M.C.I.s...
