  1. Here is Ed's email sent to some of us on Nov. 8th. Hope ya don't mind Eddy. Welcome back and Happy B'day. Good to see ya at the Yorktown job. Only thing is Ed needs to have some driver training again. You guys can ask him that one LOL Hi All, Well, I finally made it home! After 12 days of traveling, demobilizing, and processing, I'm finally back at home. I left Kabul on Monday, 10/27 and headed to Bagram, Afghanistan where I stayed until the 29th. From there I flew to Kuwait, made a quick stop in Ali Al Salem, then to Arifjan where I was until November 5th. I flew for 14 straight hours, finally landing in Washington DC, then a quick flight to Norfolk, VA. I left Norfolk, late the next day and landed in Providence, RI at about midnight. Stephanie drove up and met me there. We then drove to Newport for my final processing. We arrived back here in Somers at about 1PM this afternoon. The whole journey, starting back in November of 2007, was long, tiring and challenging. Not to mention the people who were out there trying to kill us! There were many things that I will definitely not miss, nor wish to do again! As with any journey in life, there are some great folks and experiences that you encounter along the way, that you will cherish and miss! Even though I am home, I will still be on Active Duty until December 11th. I have to "burn up" all of my earned leave days, before I can officially transfer back to reserve duty. I'll most likely be spending the next few weeks, trying to put my "old life" back together! I truly want to thank all of you that supported me and Stephanie through this ordeal, you are great! Ed
  2. "Nine Long Ridge firefighters had arrived by 9:12 p.m., Bennett said. He provided the names of the firefighters" One quick question on this quote???? How many of these "nine" firefighters were interior certified??? I love it when a department say's " we had XX amount of firefighters on the scene" and in reality, X are fire police and X are junior or probationary ff's who are not interior certified. I love it when numbers are pumped up to make it sound like really good responses from the department.
  3. NONE!!!! Commercial Trucks in my opinion should not be in the fire service. They do not hold up well in any type of accident. Custom cabs hold up much better, esp. in rollover situations. Do some research on fire truck accidents (firefighterclosecalls.com, etc) and you will see what happens to commercial cabs. They dont look to good. Custom cabs hold up alot better because they are built for protection of the personel in any type of accident. It does save money in the long run but is the price tag of a firefighter's life worth it????? just my 2 cents
  4. Heard the same. LOL sounds like Goldens Bridge on 684, with a vehicle striking a moose. They need the tanker now to wash down the remains lol
  5. He said/ she said. It really doesnt matter. You werent there and I wasnt either. It was the fact that a woman was saved due the fantastic work from the dispathers on the phone with the woman and relaying the info to ALL the firefighters on the scene and her life was saved. I listened to the call on a scanner and the whole call went very smooth and professional. So kudos to all. I only wanted to post the career ff's names because the journal news didnt mention them in the article. The whole story that was read off at the convention dinner wasnt in the article which did include them.
  6. Congratulations also goes out to Career Firefighters F. Healy, who was with FF Randazzo and together pulled the lady from the bathroom and Career Firefighter T. Russo, who helped carry the woman up the basement stairs. It would be nice to see/hear once in awhile that the news would tell the full story of an incedent.
  7. Nice catch, but, did we have a camera??? You didnt mention that you you got some great pic's. DOH!!!!
  8. Yea!!! Dont want to be like this firefighter in San Diego..... http://www.break.com/index/fire-fighter-gets-high.html
