I just got back not too long ago from this fire and it is still going good. We were called in for a 12 hour shift starting at 08:00 (I had to leave early). The fire is 2000+ acres and is getting very close to structures. It is hard to fight these fires as the wind can change at any moment. Water is being dropped from helicopters. The Incident Management System is doing a great job as to knowing who is where. All departments are doing an amazing job working together.

I got a score of 153200 on my first try after finishing round 15. Yes, this game is addicting.

One idea that came to mind that my fire department does is hosting the blood drive. There are flyers sent out to every house in the district and we have a sign that says 'American Red Cross Blood Drive' (or what ever company is running it) and the date. They are set up inside and we put our trucks outside. This may help bring more awareness to the department and may make it easier to recruit. Put a statement in the flyer with the Red Cross for the event stating you need volunteers and when people come down to give blood, give them a tour of the department and show them what you guys do. The trucks outside also show the passerby's that the department is active and the trucks don't just sit in the bays and get dusty.

Fair enough... As a general statement though, I understand what your saying. With all the training, regardless of age, a good Chief needs to be able to control the scene. It obviously goes deeper than that but I don't feel the need to type it here...

With that I believe it is safe to say that you were stating the 21 year old Chief was a BAD Chief. What makes him a bad Chief? If I read your statement wrong, please correct me and word it differently so I can understand it better. I know some firefighters that are 21, 22, 23 years old that I would have no problem at all if they were Chief. Also, I know a lof of older people that are not cut out for a line officer. I can also say the same the exact way around. Just because you have 20 years of service doesn't mean you are fit to be Chief. ONEEYEDMIC... My brother graduated college this past May and started his job two days after graduation. I feel, as well as many other people, that he has more knowledge than many older people that are 3, 6, or 9 years older than him that graduated with the same education. Granted he does not work for the service, but he is very well qualified to do what his job asks for. So my question to you is this, what makes it different from my brothers case to the fire service? Maybe more people trust the 21 year old not because he is 21, but because he is a trust worthy guy that has the qualifications to do his job. Also, maybe the people who were running against him (who were probably older than him) were not people the department felt comfortable with taking orders from.

haha, great topic... I've been playing trombone for the past 11 years (since 4th grade). I was in my high school marching band for 6 years (7th-12th grade) and was section leader my sophomore year and junior year n was Drum Major my senior year. i played baritone my freshman year because i broke my wrist and it was a brass instrument i could carry easily (i used a concert baritone, not marching). I also had a trombone solo my junior year and a dueling trumpet solo against my twin bro my senior year. I marched with the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps in 2004 and 2005 where i played euphonium and baritone. I've been in many jazz ensembles, a big band, trombone ensemble, and a brass quintet. I have also played in my school concerts where we played rock music n ska n basically n e thing random like moulin rouge or michael jackson's thriller. I was a music ed major in college but have changed to a criminal justice major. i love to play basically anything and everything. I think it would be cool to have a memorial/tribute band or somethin of the sort. Definitly sounds like a good time.
