Could someone please let me know what counties and departments in Long Island and throughout the state have Housemen. I also am wondering what the civil service discription is for the job.

I hope when it comes to fire district consolidation the models down in Maryland and Virginia are followed.

I have to look for it but there was an interesting documentary with a british reporter who went to the North Korea. The country was in shambles with rolling black outs and a repressed population. Ideas like this are great....but the problem is goverment officials and administrations forget they are temporary. I think thats what people are afraid of.

This comes back to who's in charge, who's on first, and whats on second? Which trumps which in ny? I know the police always win in the street, as the penal law has said. But what is the ruling when we are actively administering paitnent care? Does DOH law over rule penal law? Or is this just one case where things got way out of control.

Hospitals that cut their own ambluance services are making a poor choice. The ambulance provides revenue for the hospital not only by billing the paitent but bringing them too the hospital its self.

Who cares, I know that both Orange and Sullivan have had significant tornado's in the past as well as just bad weather events in general.

Is there going to be a march on the city or any picketing for support of the police officers?

What is the Aviation Volunteer Fire Dept? Who are they? Where are they and when were they orgainzied and if they were disbanded when and why? I did see a picture on the internet of one of their fire engines back in the day. Who oversee's them and did they participate in nys training ect?

I"m sure it's already been said but i'll say it again....this bill is a good thing. It is not only for fire depts and districts but all types of goverment.

When it comes to rumors they are indeed a big part of ems. The reason I started this thread is to get information on what is coming down the pipe. It affects everyone in the Duthcess EMS System. The last merger in this county didn't go so well and i'm worried. I am worried about the commercail agencies and their fight for the all mighty dollar....not the care they are providing, nor their response times. The agency I work for will have to pick up the pieces when the commercial agencies fail. When the dollar rears it's ugly head into a company that needs to make money and we start making financial choices over choices that are good for our paitents we should be providing care for. I'm worried for my friends who because of circumstance have to work for these bogus outfits. The commercial agencies are paying their employee's dirt cheap money, or maybe they will give them a decent wage but charge them out the other end for health benefits. Lets face it someone is making money here and it's off the backs of you...the employee's and the people we are to serve.

nice that they build a firehouse that can't be staffed due to traffic...kind of a false sense of security. Just shows you how screwed up the ISO ratings are. I'm sure they get a reduced ISO rating for having that fire house there.

I agree...where is my bail out here in dutchess county? I think we should pull out of the MTA like Rockland County is thinking of doing.

I hope that the crew gets utilized by neighboring fire districts as well. This is NYS so I see the ole this is my sand box routine coming down the line. As an example if 5 fire depts did this and responded to each others calls you would have a better end product on the inital alarm. Immediate response and man power.

I believe it was a few years ago the city of poughkeepsie took their gamewell system out due to technical issues. I know in Wayne County PA they still have a gamewell system and it works well for them. So does the City of Newburgh NY.

There is a legal way for fire districts to bill.

I think there are a couple of problems with EMS in Dutchess and the biggest seems to be who is going to pay for it. Towns, Fire Districts, and other forms of goverment need to stop dividing up the cost of the EMS service by the number of alarms in each district. When it comes to Eastern Dutchess and those fire districts\departments involved with this has anyone looked at back to back calls in the towns?

The article was good and it made a really good point. But how do you make accountability a factor in the volunteer fire service? I really do feel that those who say i'm only a volunteer or we're only volunteers put emergency services as a whole back professionaly. I wish there could be a way to create a more professional atmosphere for those who will quickly say "I'm only a volunteer." Discipline is something that needs to be instilled back into emergency services.
