  1. God I hope so.... We are over due.

  3. Dan, Did you try the shop in the red oaks mill plaza next to Subway?
  4. Vassar Hospital Poughkeepsie or St francis Poughkeepsie. Vassar 10 to 1 ratio. St francis is the closest for us it's a " level 2 " Trauma center.
  5. How many Volunteer Chiefs does Larchmont have,Assistant and Chief total? It said in the article that the Chief would be paid $90,000 to $140,000, how is that adding $200,000 to the budget? There also could be a cost savings if the Departments merge.
  6. What does not going to a working fire have to do with it? It is still a call for service. So Ems ,wires down, auto accidents , stuck elevator aren't calls? So after those three fires ,you guys should close the firehouse for the year. I guess the person that wrote this article thinks that the fire alarms and all the other calls stated before are not a big deal. EMS is a large portion of calls for some departments that do Fire/ems. You are not talking about adding Firefighters in large numbers. This person also states that his Mother lives in the area being talked about. He is right if this was done it would not go back to a volunteer Chief. But then you have a career manager that will not change at the end of his/her term limit. They will have a better grasp on the departments affected and not having to pick up where someone else left off. And if the new Chief is from the area, or currently a career firefighter or officer that resides in the area he would know the area ,and the people that reside there. That would be a great promotion. So to me that does say "community". So the first rig out of the house leaves with career poeple then the volunteers respond to get the other three right? If it were me I would want a manager that over sees the career people so the time on duty is well spent, and that person is available to the public on a normal schedule and to his Firefighters and Officers. That's just me.
  7. We went through the same thing up here a few years ago. And boy was there a public out cry. All the district wanted to do is switch the titles of the Deputy Chief and the Department Chief. Of cource the public was worried about money, and the Volunteers were worried about the ballance of power. The pay would have stayed the same, and the Department Chief would have been available from 07:00 to 15:00 monday-friday. The Deputy Chief would have become the volunteer Chief. Another reason was that the call volume wasn't enough, and we didn't need one. (A PAID CHIEF CAR-1) We do over 4600 runs a year Fire/Ems and we aren't busy enough? It will be interesting when this subject gets revisited. Good luck fellas!!!
  8. That's a great idea, just thought the site might get more exposure since it is from the area. The walk was packed last year,as I said ,in the past my Daughter has spent alot of time there and we have made alot of friends with the staff. It's nice to walk for the childrens hospital and raise money , they do a great job and it's all about the kids.
  9. Outside Stop and Shop in Poughkeepsie.
  10. No, rt44 Dutchess trnpke.
  11. When I was a kid......well a little kid, you could buy a siren from K-MART for your bike that was powered by a 9 volt battery. It had two or three settings for the siren and a red button that fastened to the handle bars. Try to get one of those that would set it right off.
  12. I was always under the impression that a ladder should not leave the pavement. You can't be sure what is under the grass I.E. wells or septic or if the ground is dry enough. It's hard to see from the picture if there is a road. Ladder 14 on the other side of the building is in a good spot. Ground ladders instead?
  13. Does anyone know what the hell the bridge/overpass/walkway on the T/S/P is? There is no roadway leading to it and I can't imagine why there would be a walkway. Maybe future plans for a road? A crew was working on it yesterday. My location could be wrong. It's where the new road construction was just completed. Yorktown Heights? Any DOT guys out there know?
  14. ummm.........17.5 GALLONS ? ARE YOU SURE YOUR NOT ON THE TRUCK? LOL
  15. Mabe do a booth at the walk at the Childrens Hospital next month ?
  16. As I stated you can only tell us what you are told on the phone call. If the info you get is wrong there is nothing you can do about it. I am just saying it seems to happen alot. It's just as frustrating for you as it is for us in the street. I do trust you guys don't missunderstand me. I am just saying that I keep all the info that I get but expect the unexpected.
  17. Alpha- back in the day in the late 80s early 90s when crack and the shootings were rampid in the city friends of mine who worked for Alamo in Poughkeepsie had worn vests. I think it is a great idea depending on the area. Everyone goes home..... You wouldn't wear one in Millbrook working for an EMS agency. LOL
  18. As I was told in the past if you don't write 95% or better and get 100% on the physical you can forget it.
  19. I can honestly say and with no disrespect to any dispatchers out there I don't believe it untill I see it. It dosen't change my response but more times than not call takers are getting or giving the wrong info and I understand they can only get or give out what they are told but more than a few times I have gotten to an alarm and the age of the pt was wrong ,what we were dispatched on was wrong, the address was wrong. As I said I am not knocking anyone I just don't believe it untill I see it. And just a question why do agencies respond hot to priority 3 or 4 calls then transport cold to the hospital? Talk about risk to the public and yourself. ALS-I KNOW YOU WILL HAVE A BALL WITH THIS ONE. LOL.
  20. I saw that when we were outside ANNIE MOORES the snow and ice was falling onto park ave. I didn't hear of anyone getting hurt did you?
  21. I have seen plows all night long in Poughkeepsie. State plows and City plows. It's still snowing like crazy up here. I have already shoveled twice just to stay ahead of it, by the time I was done it was snow covered again.
  22. I always felt like I was going to fall out. That's when a Fire Engine was a Fire Engine all bare metal on the inside. No middle seat just a pad in between the passenger and driver.
  23. The Pleasant Valley Fire District also had a 1977 Ward and in 1992 had E-ONE do a new chasse an body.(E-ONE Cyclone Cab). They kept the motor an had it re worked with a new turbo and jake brake. The pump was also tested and put in the new rig. The engine is still in service today, the old number was Engine 165 now known as 56-13.
  24. I was going to say the same thing.
