I agree 100%. If you are going to check out new tools and get some new ideas for your department why not take the district vehicle. You have to eat to, so taking the vehicle to a restaurant isn't a big deal. What I don't agree with is taking the family to this function and stopping at theme parks.

I hope they had a change of underwear back at the station..... Very very lucky. Seems like from the tape they saw it or heard something just before it happened, getting to the edge very quickly.

Newburgh gets a good amount of fire duty. Alot of vacant buildings, and it's an old city. Some areas are worse than Poughkeepsie if that's possible. They do not run an Ambulance and have good staffing on the Engines and Truck. A classic urban city.
-
Hydration should be done through out the day. Not just when you start having signs symptoms on a job.
-
Because it was the fire districts decision to turn the ambulance coverage to the town. And the town contracted to Alamo. That was done before the Career guys started in the valley. Even if the valley hired more firefighters to run the ambulance they would still need a medic. The town likes having a full rig Medic and Emt.

Here the FDNY and NYPD go out of there way to make a wish come true for a little boy, and yet someone in the city has there eye on the fire dept and tries to jam some guys up by sending people to bribe them with food, money, beer and women. The article was in the post and daily news titled "FDNY STING". Great act of kindness brothers, having a handicap child myself it was very heart warming.

I know Rich personally. He is always training hard and running at the gym.He is a true gentleman. He always says hi and has a positive outlook. It's a shame that he won't be able to return to full duty and perform the job he loves. I don't think Rich would take the desk job even if it was available.

As a Firefighter going from one department to another is called a transfer. You start at the bottom as far as seniority in the new Department. Your in service time counts in the system. Some departments you still have to do 20 yrs and then the other time is counted at the 20 yr mark.

Just one more thing that needs to be said. The owner of the vehicle was there and told the fire dept do what ever you have to. The vehicle could not be moved so the hose went on top . Good job on stoping the fire from getting into the house and everyone went home.

QUOTE(Chris192 @ Apr 20 2008, 08:42 AM) Agreed. There is no hydrant next to the car and the hose goes beyond where it's parked so that wasn't it. I think the unprofessional remark was about the hose placement not the truck placement, at least that's the way I read it. What's "cool" about damaging someone's property? Aren't we in the business of trying to protect people's property? What "point" is being made by positioning the hose like that? It may not have been done to cause damage but it probably did cause damage and that isn't why we're here. Does anyone know if the FD spoke to the owner of the car? Are they going to foot the bill for any repairs? I am almost tired of seeing this thread continue. So if the SUPPLY LINE was kinked, and there was no place else to put it to straighten it out and the only other spot was over the car, then thats where it goes. Weather it is parked legal or not. I would not be searching for the owner when a house is burning to the ground. If damage is done then take care of that later. If the owner had come up to the guys in the street and said he or she would move it , then let the owner move the vehicle. But that didn't happen here. And I need to make a correction about the point being made , I thought the car was in front of a plug, that was the point I was talking about.

I can honestly say that if you tried to come to my job and tried to by pass anyone for a promotion to Captain or Lieutenant and I WAS IN LINE FOR THAT JOB, myself and 80 other guys would be pissed. How can you think just because you were on the job somewhere else you have a right to another one with out going through the process? Firefighters not officers can just transfer most of the time, In New York .You can most of the time if retirement is the same. F.D.N.Y. AND Yonkers are different ,I don't think you can transfer from a different department. If you were able to you have to go through there acadamy. Already being a boss in said department it is very hard to transfer out to another as an officer , or next to impossible to do. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Just from knowing some of the guys that were there I am 100% sure a above and beond effort was given to stop this fire in its tracks , I work with some of you. With that said , it is very true, sometimes it is hard to get a good grasp on what its going on at a scene just from pictures. Sometimes things are not as they realy are I.E. the hose over the vehicle. I do not think that the hose over the vehicle was done to cause dammage. As I said I know some of you at the scene, I do think is was to make a point. The truck placement was great , and to take a few extra seconds to place it that way. Good job to the driver in being heads up. Those little ones do kick your but. Great job Brothers. YOU TO CHIEF (Wapp Car 2) lol... Sucks being outside dosen't it?
