  1. From Car 2301: "Back in the later 80’s we sold the 1962 and the 1965 Mack Pumpers to the Summit N.Y. Fire Department. The rigs had been stored outside behind Station No. 5 for a long time. We even had bee hives inside the pumps. A group of gents from Summit got the rigs started and drove these open top beauties all the way up into the Adirondacks without incident, meanwhile we couldn’t believe they got them started. As I recall they were Prison Guards in one of those “Boot Camp” facilities, which was the major industry in the town , they were a good group and obviously mechanically skilled. They were thrilled to get the rigs and as the legend goes, the entire townsfolk lined the main drag to welcome their adventurous lads home with these “new rigs” Wonder if they are still in service." - Raymond "Doc" Kiernan
  2. Only 1 with a 2 horse drawn steamer going down the road. Yes, will post as soon as they get scanned.
  3. There was a line in the original version of Fiddler on the Roof. Where Tevye gives the beggar 1 Koppeck and the beggar says: "only one koppeck, last week you gave me two" Tevye says: "I had a bad week" The beggar says: "So you had a bad week, why should I suffer"? That kind of sums it up. If you cant get the ambulance out in a timely manor, with properly trained personnel, how can you explain that to the parent whose child is choking and turning blue?

  5. A current view of Station #3 In 1986-1988 The house underwent a major rebuild including replacing the apparatus floor and its support system. In this photo you can see the doors have been widened and the center window removed.
  6. I cant answer the 1st other than it was very tall inside. No suppression system, they rarely do, particularly one that 100 years old. Most houses of worship have trouble staying afloat, not much money left for protection.
  7. Most between 30 and 50 gallons. We require the fill up at 3/4 tamk. All of our engines were refilled on scene at least 1x. Dept. Mechanic has a tank & pump in his vehicle. Great Question.
  8. Olympia Engine Company #3 1911 Olympia Engine Company #3 January 1916 Notice the 2 story exposure #4 in 1911, but only 1 story in 1916. Also look at the unusual windows at the roofline of that exposure. Love the flower pots in the windows.
  9. Could be, they stopped having a spare at #2 before I got on the job.
  10. Sorry for not giving you full credit. JPM was where I got them and I did not know that they were from you and GS. Thank you for helping to keep our tradition alive and well.
  11. Manned with a call back. We have officers who can initiate a call back from home or work. They basicly use I/Page, but in reality when there is a worker its common for a few members to show up at the house. We have all callback members go to there house to get there gear and then report to Station #1 for accountability (the exception is 1-2 guides for Sta #3 mutual aid). Time is usually 10-20 minutes till inservice, then 3-4 to get to the scene.
  12. It was simply not needed. 60 had a number of personnel on-scene coordinating and were able to handle things without it. If we needed it we know they will bring it.
  13. If you are on your 5th Bottle something is major wrong. After that much bottled air (read at one incident) you run the risk of lung issues And staying in Rehab for 10 minutes is not going to resolve a BP issue. And this is the safest choice? We dont pay for our firefighters to stand around at 99.9% of our fires. Maybe you need to take a better look at the people you are calling firefighters. If your levels are that off, 10 minutes will not help. YEs it may catch something, but the members also need to know their bodies and at what point they need rehab. It is not always that "automatic". THats not what you have been saying prior to this.
  14. The 1960 Mack Quad was assigned to Station #5 on Stratton Rd. Was staffed with a driver, officer, 2 engine men and 2 ladder men the 4 "backstep men" road 2 on each side. 1962 Mack Engine #5 assigned to Station #2 1962 Mack Engine #2 assigned to Station #2 Note this is the same unit as #5 above after the city renumbered all of the rigs. 1965 Mack Engine #6 assigned as the Squad Note this unit carries Puple K in the jump seats. 1969 Ward LaFrance assigned to station #3. Was referbished in the mid 1980's adding a roof. Sold in 1989 to Eastchester FD. Distroyed in MVA shortly after sale. Photo Credits to the Midnight Voice of KEF 934 John P. Maguire
  15. NR EMS has the ability to do CO Monitoring and if a member needs medical evaluation it is available, but we dont consider CO monitoring needed for every FIREFIGHTER going thru "rehab". If it was cold we will make arraingments for warming (in a building or we have heated tents.) It was available and not one member was interested in it.
  16. Sorry I was not clear. They fought against mandating EMT for an attendant in All ambulances including fire dept. ambulances.
  17. Building was donated to the FD in 1910 by Adrian Iselin
  18. Huguenot Engine Co#1 Fire Station on Lawton Street. c.1880 Building burn to the ground while company was out of quarrters on another incident. The Fire Bell was Found in the Basement and was saved. Huguenot Engine Co#1 Replacment House Was Torn down in 1890 to clear land for new Police Station. Company relocated to new Fire Headquaters on Church Street. Police Station was torn down in the 1960's. Was a park and now the parking lot for the Library. The Bell is currently located infront of Station #1 (Harrison Street) as part of the UFFA memorial.
  19. Since when? Law suits are civil litigation, not criminal. What law was broken in the McDonalds Hot Coffee suit? You can sue anybody for anything, just need to convince a judge it has merit. Yes but in this case there is already a Federal Court Consent Agreement that alows the practice in MV, NR, WP & Yonkers. There is no disparate impact for residence, only for protected classes. Enough of the firehouse lawyers. The Federal courts ordered that they have seperate in town & out of town lists.
  20. Generally we use them in training more for the pump operator and the reduced clean up of not stretching lots of lines.
  21. Coffee, Hot Cocco, water gatoraid & donuts brought to the scene. New Rock opened up around 6am for rest rooms. EMS on standby...what more do you need. We did not notice any issue from that. Bigger issue is Water comoany testified this fall infront of the Public Service Commission that they were reducing bressure with a new pump system, but volume would increase and we would have all the water we could eever need. Their pumps were at 100% and we needed more. At 100% they started to fail water mains. Most of the system is past its life expectancy and they have not done any major replacements in 40 years. Add 2302-1 (covering city), 2302-3, 2302-4, 2303, 2305, 2306, 2309 and 23010 Unless it could bring more water it was not needed Both D&D plus Twin Donut are 24 hour. We could have used you anyway.
  22. After the Current Station #1 was built in 1966. This Building was sold. It is currently a church, prior to that it was a toy factory
  23. Because it took time for conEd underground crews to arrive and shut off the power.
  24. The only planning was the guy went to the gas station before igniting the building.
  25. It is the departments responsibility under the law to provide the training and submit the documentation to NYS.
