HURTS MY EYES.....GO BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS. The opinons expressed here do not reflect on any agency, they are mine and mine alone...thank you.

All tools have a place, if they are used correctly. The problem with the booster line can be summed up in one word: "Charlston" I hate to have to dumb down the fire service, but it appears that we have less issues when we do.
-
Nope: I've always felt this way. The NYS TA has a legal responsability to provide EMS, Fire and police protection on its road. They contract with NYSP and then expect the rest of us to cover them. Over the years they have often put road blocks in our way and expect us to leap over them. When we have threatened to stop providing the service they quickly change their ways.
-
main advantage is you can bring the body of water right up to the road. also you can run them to deep water, even if its a good distance out. Also can get you under ice quickly.
-
I have a better idea, you want us to protect your road, have the courtesy to give us an ez-pass or make other arraingment to get us thru. Otherwise handle it yourselves.
-
So if they win & the federal courts say you cant have residency requirements (because they discriminate against minorities) how will that effect MV, NR, WP & Y since the federal courts said we must have residency requirements (since not having them discriminates against minorities)? They could win in No. Hudson and cause all other jurisdictions to have past cases thrown out. Thats change.

Interesting responses. Our experiance with the NYS Thruway Auth. on I-95 has been a little different. 1) I've been trying to get EZ-pass for some dept vehicles and between the TA's rules and our finance dept rules I have not been able too. (partly because the TA automated the system and I have not been able to talk with a human, they want a credit card, which we do not have). 2) our rigs go thru the NR toll barrier without paying, but when our DC went thru, the tag reader would record his plate and the dept would get a bill for the toll plus $30 fine for running the toll. This was for calls that the NYS TA requested us to respond to on there road. We removed the plates from that DC's car and now we do not get a bill. Our rigs have never had plates. The TA's computer can't figure out who the registered owner of R-4 is so we dont get a bill.

9.98 miles to Jacobi from the fire scene 15.91 miles to WMC NYS says closest apropriate facility. And both FD & EMS agree

In the case with the pic. There were no signs. Backdraft forced the ceiling down in the next room from where the member was operating.

NFPA says 10 years

Yep...there is one a block from my house. Lucky we don't use NYC hydrants panted black and located at the back end of the driveway. I know of atleast 2 others in NR.

Yes and no. For example we have 2 collages that are non profits. They do not pay property tax. The majority of the properties are self contained, PD does not patrol them (the do respond to incidents), DPW does not pick up garbage, recycling or maintain streets/plow them (private contractor or collage employees). They dont use city parks, recreation, youth or aging, the primary service that they use almost daily is fire protection.

We can bill, as a fine. But not the cost of the service
-
In the case of our "non-profits" for some it would be cheaper to pay the tax. We respond to one NP 85 times last year (we have 100's of NP's) and if we were to charge "at cost" which the law allows us to do on Hazmat its in the $800/hour range that's $34,000 for 30 minute average time per call.

We are 1st due........No we are 1st due, you are 2nd due.....

But officer, the blue light is only rear facing......

Thats what happens when you have too many members on the apparatus spec comittee.

Looking at the photo, one can see that your left intake is capped, so its not used for a municipal hydrant supply. While having a 20' hard suction saves a little time in not having to connect 2 lengths, you still have to attach it to the pump and if not using a dry hydrant to the strainer. To improve this, add a chiksan swivel to the main intake and preconnect your hard suction. You can also preconnect your strainer, if it is more likely to be used than hooking to a dry hydrant. This system was developped in the 1700's and used on hand pumpers, then on steamers. Most were phased out in the 1940's because they did not look pretty. Now they are starting to make a comeback in depts that are serious about firefighting.

Nextel has been being billed since fall 2008 for the cell tower, which has yet to appear. We have antennas planned to go on it as well. It appears that no one at Nextel knows what is going on. PD is replacing their system (2009 capital budget), but I do not know if they are changing frequencies or just hardware/software/system.

Like shutting down Albany would actually change anything. As long as the 3 men in a room can meet and they can do what they want (like "hire" during a "hard frezze"), shutting down Albany is as useless as our state government

Looks very nice, good luck. 2 questions: 1) What was the reason for 3 high anchor points (most go with only 2)? 2) What is the plan for the walk in. I see lots of AC outlets and other wiring. Thanks Barry

For all structure alarms ISO wants a minimum of 12 "on-duty" FF's and an IC or 36 "on-call" FF's and an IC......THis is where the 3:1 ratio comes in. ISO does not care if you are paid or not. They only consider if you are in the fire station or not. They have not had 1-4 or 1-5 since at least the 1940's if ever. It has nothing to do with training. Training is a seperate component in the rating. Rolling out with a fully staffed response is faster and more coordinated. Remember fire doubles every minute so if a fire has 2% of the structure upon tone out of the call and it takes 3 minutes to get there, it could have 16% upon arrival, if it takes 2 more minutes to arrive and get organized in theory it could be 64%.
