  1. So very true on all points: FAST is a must and should be included. Survuval should be part of firefighter 1 curriculum to start with (i know it is now included in the class but some FD's dont require members to attend that and also it is not included 100 % of the time) make it part of the initial coursework because if you cant save yourself how can you save someone else eefectively.
  2. 2011 Hank Napoli Jr. & John Garrison Memorial Training Seminar “First Due Operations @ Private Dwellings” Guest Speaker: Lt Tim Klett, FDNY E-88 & Author of Fire Notes : Stretching and Operating the First Line Fee: $25 in advance/$30 at door For Questions or to RSVP email mcoffey@tarrytownfd.org Seating is limited—Refreshments and door prizes provided Proceeds benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
  3. you cant mess with Mike Wilbur he runs some really dynamite classes.
  4. Training should be the responsibility and the priority for the individual FD's. Whatever training that cannot be feasiby provided at the WCDES needs to be funded by the local FD/municipality. Before any black tie events are held, or kitchen cabinets bought, or new vehicles are bought the proper training needs to be offered and followed through on. This does not fall on politicians they wouldn't no a fire drill from a cordless drill this falls on the chiefs/training officers but also ultimately it is up to the firefighter himself to make sure he takes the training offered. Don't pass the buck to a politician. Looking for a solution from a politician is like trying to get electricity out of a dead outlet.

  16. Really great article. Very much to the point and it stated what a lot of us in Tarrytown feel right now. e all know that the CYA game would be played but 1. Have some respect and let the investigations take place and let the burials happen. Give people time to grieve. 2. And even more relevant Mr. Blau gave uall FD members a "team player" letter and speech last year pertaining to the new firetrucks etc etc. Some team player..........................

  21. Real good points Chief. Unfortunately there are usually 2 groups within a FD: Guys who train and guys who want no part of it. I am proudly part of the guys who train and you are right those of us who train and have been a part of the fire service need to do a good job of drumming that home into newer guys who join. It is the only way to change the climate around the firehouse.
  22. Spots still available if anyone is interested
