By no means am I down playing any of these new features, which are very important, but don't you think the major contributing factor in crashes and the need for protection systems are the sizes of these new rigs? I think its time to stop making these all-in-one rigs and get back to basic Engines and Trucks and you'll probably see less accidents.

They don't exactly say they're reducing staffing, but the paragraph in the Charter that says there shall be 12 Career FF with 3 on duty at all times is taken out it, it only leaves one to wonder what the city is up too. Also taken out of the Charter is only career staff is to operate the equipment. Something is not adding up. Too many what ifs and interpretations.

That may be for a County Fire dept. This Particular research was for consolidation of surrounding Fairview FD's.

When I'm 2nd due ladder and I park behind the 1st due, I make sure i can see his rear tandem tires which gives enough room to pull a ladder of their truck. But, I don't sacrifice not being able to use my Ladder if I know I can shoot the building as well. This works for me when I'm 1st due. I drive a rear mount stick and as I pull up to place the turntable (Off passenger side only) I look out the rear jumpseat window and what I see at around the curb is pretty close to where the turntable will line up. This will only work if you are at the right distance away from building.

In Poughkeepsie we go to these on a routine basis and it's usually pretty easy to gain access. We turn the power off and just use the drop key to get the door open. Also, most elevators get stuck from a electrical glitch and sometimes switching the power on and off may get the elevator moving again.
