  1. We have our own repeater system and our own frequency, this is great, but unfortunately with no regualtion such as 60 control, PL and 10 codes are used together or not at all.
  2. Tower Ladder 8? What do you mean? do they say 8 truck? I prefer the "# truck" not Tower Ladder#, or TL #
  3. A lot of depts are taking it upon themselves to use plain language (PL). I myself prefer to use PL, some guys in my dept still use 10 codes. Another thing I see, or hear rather is for example: Engine One Hundred Twent Three responding Vs. Engine One Two Three responding. 123 only used as an example.
  4. I am not a huge fan of them, Also in regards to the flip down steps: I saw them a few years back at a trade show and they just looked dangerous and unnecessary, they might have changed since then, so I won't be to harsh, but they looked pretty ridicolous when I saw them. As for pierces... Well.... IF you want my opinion? I think they are pierces of S*&%, but hey thats JMO, thats why to each his own, Some of my good friends ride on them and love them.
  5. How about one that looks like a red ink stamp with outline on a 45 degree angle? It would be dramatic?
  6. Correct me If I am wrong but there will most likely be one in sept?
  7. Kudos to you! I am a CFR right now, My FD does EMS assist once in awhile. I Want to get more involved with the EMS field and plan on taking the class in Sept. I want it more for my personal knowledge, it would really scare me if someone I loved were to have a problem and I couldn't help. Anyway congrats too you and remember education and esp. continuing ed. are power the more the better.
  8. Nothing like trying to get a mayday across and have someone on the air giving a parade notification and repeating it. It could happen.
  9. To anyone who defends these actions: Do you guys know what happens to a body when it hits the pavement after being thrown from a moving vehicle?
  10. They just had the test, You guys are like hyperactive children no offense . CALM DOWN. I think only one or two academies have gone through on this test. I took the test for Shlts and giggles I was numbner 600 with a 90? you guys scored better then thousands of people so Kudos to you. Also on average they will take 40 cadets. This includes cadets from cities with seperate tests. Just be patient 135 and 244 are excellent scores. Now granted you aren't going to be called tomorrow but definately within a year or two. Be patient and they will call you. Next thing you know you will be turning down depts. Good luck.
  11. Every member of the fire service is important, but I agree with Jason. Know your place. Unfortunately the "young male" feels they have a lot to prove, and have a lot of machoism and other BS involved in their ego. I am in my mid twenties, and I try at best to keep my mouth shut. If you want to make a good impressions ask questions. Do not be timid or embarassed, better you ask then do something wrong becuase you were unaware. One more tip that was given to me is if you do have a question or a problem consult a blue shirt first. The chief does not need to hear everything, its best to try and settle the problem in your ranks first. Every dept has different personalties, from what I have learned is that even the ones with the toughiest exterior will still gladly help you out.
  12. For guys looking to get on the job my only advice is to take EVERY TEST you hear of, this one is no exception, even take ones that are known for hiring residencies. I am not going to pat myself on the shoulder but before i got hired i took: White plains FD, Port Authority PD, Norwalk FD, Stratford FD, Stanford FD, Wetchester t&V FD & PD FDNY NYPD FDMV and I'm sure there are some I left out. Taking these tests only benefitted me, especially when i was getting canvassed from multiple depts. I have a few friends who only want to be in FDNY, and refuse to take any other test, well you know what I say to them keep waiting... And never EVER turn down a job becuase you think you won't get hired, won't "make" it, or are waiting for a busier dept. Thats just insanity, anyway sorry to rant and BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!
  13. Man Xzibit definately needs to get ahold of this guy, and pimp his ride.
  14. Tradition has its place but not in this subject. The bottom line is that the most qualified needs to fill the position, not the flavor of the month. I am all about professionalism in volunteer agencies, and read the posts claiming equality, why not then test for the position, as well as the current requirements? Anyone can sit through the class and come out with a piece of paper, but who retains the knowledge? Knowledge is power. I can see NO reason against this. You do not like it, that is fine. Good firefighters are essential as well as good officers, and everyone has their place
  15. Its very easy to root for a team when they are winning. Not that I am putting down any yankee fan, but how many fans here jumped on the band wagon in the last 10 years? What about the good old days of Mattingly, Sax, Tartabull, Winfield, Regetti. I hung up my yankee cap after those great players left. Stenbriener is a complete jack @SS. Remember when he wanted to move to Jersey. He never invested any money into the team back then, now he guarantess championships before opening day. He is a typical business man. Oh and another thing. 6 bucks for a beer 3 bucks for a dog and 4 dollars for water. He is a criminal! Baseball has always been about the fans, the loyal hard working fans. Now every white collar corporate office has thousand dollar company boxes. Forget about sitting field level if you don't have the connections or a ton of $$. Don't worry the Mets will always have room for the real fans of the game. Just my two cents
  16. I would just like to see what everyones favorite sushi places in westchester? My favorite is Seasons in White Plains, I have some others too.
  17. Amen 10570, First I guess I agree with you from my old roots of being a bot scout "be prepared!" Second, It makes a lot of sense, to keep up with the times and techonology, especially now with these 105lb females (or males)medics and EMTs, this can aid in better treatment, its always best to have the right tool for the job And last thing I have to say is, comparing the original qoute. This is like saying we do not have a lot of fires in XYZ city/town so we are just gonna sell off a lot of our equipemet, not bother with experimenting new technologys and we are just going to cut back on training and maybe even just show up to the door with a bucket.
  18. Uhm guys... It was only proposed lol..
  19. Guys they just introduced the bill. I mean I agree with all of you but if you take the time to vent your frustration here you might as well c/p it into a letter to your Assemblyman. There is even a link on that website. If we voice our opinion it won't get passed. This is America after all. And you cannot complain if you don't do anything. Its like people that don't vote then complain about politics. Bills are passed everyday, most of them never get any further and just dissapear. Look at this one Issue: Equipment Bill: SB 4740 Status: CARRIED OVER Location: Senate Comm. On Trans. Description: Bans the sale and use of spinner hubcaps. Author: Senator Sabini Intro Date: 18-Apr-05 Bill Type: Two Year Bill from 2005
  20. I think if you call this ambulance and you need the wench you have to say "super size me"
  21. I agree with cya69, I mean I think VACs are great, especially for people looking to get started within the EMS field or emergency services field, it gives them some training, as well as a free class to get your EMT cert. But getting back to agreeing with cya69, the days of the VAC are numbered, lets face it, time is of the essence esp dealing with stroke and hert attack victims. I am for any proposition that wants to have MORE Trained Career Personnel STANDING BY. It is the immediate response that we need. I know VACs do play a vital roll. But isnt it kind of scary that some towns WHO CAN AFFORD IT would rather rely on the VAC then have the personnel ready to go. Listen again this could be ugly BUT Response times of VACs are down. I am sure most of the time the Bus does get out quickly and properly manned, but I can think of, off the top of my head a few timeS where I personally witnessed the bus taking an excess of 18 minutes to get there, It desont matter that 99% of the time the VAC gets out its that 1% that will kill you, or a tax payer.
  22. What would you guys do if you arrived on this??? http://www.wftv.com/irresistible/8313012/detail.html I would put my 50 cents in and try to get him! J/K!!
  23. I see, valid question. I am assuming that the cost to have BLS run with the "fly" car will drive the cost up. However, if the town can afford it then I say go for it,
  24. but 66 alpha, didnt the manager state that they would pay for their own service even if it did come out to more $$, becuase of the quality of service. Mainly refering to the sizeof the current contracts response district. She wants a service to conentrate mainly on her district not all over New Castle, and is willing to pay more then her share. Within the current contract she feels she is paying more then her fair share for the service they get. Just some thoughts
  25. I do not know much about the EMS field and operations, but I would have to agree with the town manager of Chapaqua. Why shouldn't they have their own medic? I would definately feel safer as a resident to know there is someone on stand by. Lets face it the VACs just cannot provide that immediate service. They have the money, so use it to protect. And why focus on a sub par service that a group is offering when you could have your own. And maybe this is the union in me talking, but this is good news to me, as it will create a new position and more jobs. I am sure all of these towns have the $$ to support the finest police, so why not have your own EMS. Nearly every town in westchester has their own police dept. I am not trying to sway this post into "career vs. vol." But having a trained professional on stand by ready to respond within seconds, who is dedicated to one job (ALS, Police, or Fire) will better protect the residents.
