Most cities have seperate tests, and towns and villages use one test. I am sure the next few posts will be more detailed, also residency unfortunately is a big factor in westchester. Only 2 or 3 places hire non residents.

While we are it what about an automatic stabilizer for aerials like once you get out push one button the stabilizers come down with the steel plates already welded to the stabilizers

What is interesting, and I am not anti-chocks I use them everytime the truck is parked outside of the FH, is that tractor trailers who weigh 80+tons do not use chocks. With the parking brake engaged the truck will not move, the main purpose of the chocks is to prevent the apparatus from driving away from you because of an operator error, ie putting the truck in pump or not putting it in gear.

My advice if you are really interested in this field, is to not take it at WCC. I am sorry to hang the program before it starts, but if you are really interested you should go to John Jay (CUNY) down on 59th street, which has the best program in the nation, or New Haven. This is obviously not a degree program that is being taught all over, and the demand for it is EXTREMELY LOW. Also one common mistake is that people coming out of high school who want to be a Fire Fighter major in Fire Science. While this obviously can not hurt you, the program is not designed to make you a Fire Fighter. It is more about engineering and/or administration.

what about portable radios being submerged? I know the ones I use will not work, I dont mean to take over the thread, but does anyone have anything to say about this?

Did anyone else notice that both new design's windshield is one solid piece of glass? Very uncommom among todays trucks.

From my previous education, a lot of political science courses, very few countries will let a criminal stay. Mexico would not esp with NAFTA, would most likely hand the guy over eventually. The US has its hands in everything and countries rely upon foreign aid, they are not going to risk this over a criminal. I believe Sri lanka is one of the few who will not hand them over, and probably France now adays.

I don't want to take sides, However When I joined my dept I had a short time to take the required classes to be a member of the squad. The depts that have the trained personnel are the ones that should have the squads. Career or Volunteer. We all know that training is a vital requirement of our job. However maybe instead of worrying about what bail out packages to buy your members, or what truck to get that looks most like FDNY, maybe we should be training more. Haz-Mat incidents are just waiting to happen. Now we all have residencies, commercial/Inustrial buildings but we also ALL have ROADS which Haz-Mats are being transported daily. Yes geographical placing of the squads we would make the most sense for logisitcs, but how many depts north of 287 have the appropiate man-power that are trained? The squads techinically aren't even fully operational yet. Yonkers has a great Haz-Mat team and will travel almost anywhere, definately a resource to keep in mind. If you guys are that passionate about it the classes are there! Sign Up! We have great resources in our county, and we should all be lucky that we do not have to drive 2 hours north to take a class. I have seen a lot of classes canceled, its a shame that these oppurtunities go to waste.

Milk is a Haz Mat situation, I just finished my Haz Mat Tech training, this incident is dangerous to the environment and will kill nearly all wildlife living in the affected water. It is not a Haz Mat situation to waht you would normally expect but it is non-the-less.

Not to start to an argument, I was just curious do volunteer agencies have a squad system such as the career depts of lower westchester? I am unaware.

The squads from westchester are going to have a TRT, assigned to the squad, that is my understanding.

IMO, as soon as one person becomes physically violent, they are in the wrong. Agreed the reporters are S.O.B.'s if this women had half a brain she would go inside shut the door call the police. Its matter like these that make me think we are no different then animals. Did anyone see the recent footage of the football player father tacking another player??? When people take matters into there own hands and get violent, its nothing but trouble and moronic.

There are hiring for everything over there they are looking for POs, FFs, Truck drivers, people to pump gas even! and they all pay 100k+ I also hear that the majority of the time you are training Irais on how to perform the task inside a secured base. For the kid who didnt go to college, doesn't have a family yet, might not be a bad gig and an adventure. Then again if your 25+ have a family I wouldn't advise. =D

I wouldnt say construction workers. Construction workers are just skilled tradesmen (hopefully) trying to earn a decent living usually getting underpaid and working in harsh conditions so they can feed their family. I believe the battle is with engineers, architechs, real estate investors, more of the big business. I have always been a supporter of the working class. Think about light weight construction its not the worker who is killing us when the trusses fail, its the S.O.B. who figured out he can build a house with half the $$ and material and sell it for the same price. That is my two cents. Unfortunately the new home owners of today do not know the difference, they see the large open rooms inside the house no the inevitable danger.

OMG TWO COMPLIMENTS IN ONE THREAD ABOUT A SUTPHEN!!! Never thought I would see the day. I understand everyone has their own opinions and thats what makes this country great, and that's also why we have menu's at restaurants, but IMO Sutphens are horrible, I have never seen any other company take so many shortcuts to save a buck. Also their marketing is genius cause somehow they are still selling these things. OK OK OK rant over, I am sorry to offend you. I will now go back to just observing this thread and being quiet
