Sounds like a good option if all works out well. I wouldn;t mind seeing on in each engine and each cheifs car. In my department it would be benifit us by allowing us to comunicate to public works and fire police which operate on a low band freq. while our firegound is all high band, makeing life much easier on our incident comanders.

The only experience i have with flags on hydrants are the spring ones. They are outta your way untill you need to charge it and at that time you would fold it over under you and open it up. In danbury,ct i was told if a hydrant was O.O.S. a black steamer cap was put on. Also every year when they do testing for it they will paint the top of it a different color.( for 2007 the color was purple) so if you cam accross a hydrant painted otherwise it would be very possible it was never test and could be outta service.

I'm not sure if this topic came up in discussion once before but i could not find any information on it. Our department recently bought a few of the latest model Scott brand SCBA. We went from the old wire framed packs which we donated to the state to the newer i believe all lightweight metel frames. now these new ones we just got seem to be mostly comprised of composit plastic material. They are extremly heavy. There are a few new features which in some cases are useless addons just to make the packs more expensive. but back to the reason for the thread, they weigh aproxx...5-10 lbs more then the last model scott made. I wore it for a class I was taking last sunday and after about 10min it was putting a noticible strain on my back and shoulders. Anyone used these packs yet?
-
I agree with you 100% however i would be one of the ones complaining about shoulder stress wih the new pack. throughout the day i was wearing it we were doing some Minor confined space training. where i would have to unbuckle the waste straps and in the given environment was not able to tighten back up to ideal tightness. But i would like to repeat what mfc2257 said by stateing DON'T FORGET TO TRAIN ON THE BASICS. THEY ARE KEY
-
May I add say again....waste of money....give me an old pack and I will be much more comfortable (I'll take being comfortable and confident over style anyday)

Alex i believe our new gear has zipper and velcro...personally i would like to have a zipper and the old style hooks. personal experience being a "larger then average" guy the velcro just dosen't cut but can get by.......bets are for the show they put all three just to show all the things they can put on so they wouldn't have to do several different coats. Along the lines of turnout gear what does everyone think about built in harness they are putting in the coats now.?
